Yup, my late FIL taught me how to marinade with coca cola, and they are delish!, he also showed me how to make a lot of Korean side dishes.

Our girls have requested some good old hamburgers.

Good question.

Hmm. What do I want us to BBQ? I'll have to think on that.

Suggestions?

How lucky you are to have banchan recipes passed down to you in your family! Do you have a good recipe for those caramelized sweet potatoes with sesame seeds? I've tried making them at home but it's not the same as the ones you get on the streets in Seoul. It doesn't get that crispy crunchy outer shell..

Not a traditional 4th of July grilling but bluefish if we can score some and the ever traditional corn on the cob. Yummy. And of course grilled red and yellow peppers and grilled onions. Delish. If we cannot get fresh bluefish it will be King Salmon instead.

Kenny your girls are going to be very happy with their dinner. They are beautiful girls.

My mom marinates skirt steak with coca cola and I know everyone raves about their grilled skirt steak. Coca cola makes everything delicious.

Kenny, Your daughters are beautiful!

I am not grilling anything because DH is working. But I just went to Costco and bought chicken wings to make what we call Hinoki wings, named after the family that gave us the first batch and the recipe. It is basically a fried chicken wing, that is dunked in a sauce of grated fresh ginger, soy sauce, Aji Mirin sweet cooking rice seasoning and then dusted with toasted sesame seeds. My kids love them. They are a big project but since my youngest is going into the army soon, I said I would make them for him.

DH just picked up some things to grill: organic ground beef, onions and (my favorite) fresh pineapple. I am looking forward to tomorrow! :lickout:

I might be in Australia and not be celebrating independence day, but I generally BBQ every day I can! Although I guess you could call it Independence day for me because today marks 1 year since I have been independent from my cigarette addiction!!

Tonight it shall be a mass of chicken, some done in a Portuguese style tomato chilli marinade and some done with honey soy marinade and a hickory wood smoke. Sides of baked potatoes with sour cream, chives, onion and cheese as well as a garden salad.

Can I leave work now???

JD's working sooo...nothing. I get to work in the shop and mow the clover and veg out w/the tv. Maybe take the kids swimming. We got some sweet corn :lickout: :lickout: so we'll have that when he gets off duty and whatever else. I'd be happy w/just sweet corn for supper-I do that a lot every summer-but he has to have meat w/it.

Beef hot dogs and homemade macaroni salad. I usually buy Hebrew National, which I love, but this time I had a coupon for a free package of another brand. I only eat hot dogs 3 times a year, Memorial Day, The Fourth, and Labor Day.
Apricot cake with butter cream frosting for dessert. I picked a bushel of apricots from a friend's tree, and I am trying some new recipes.
There are only two of us, so I don't really make a whole lot of food on holidays.

Spin/artichoke dip for afternoon snacking. Then a green salad, grilled corn, grilled/sautéed zucchini, thick ribeyes, grilled bread. Then a blueberry peach cobbler with ice cream for dessert. :lickout:

...and the cobbler is the only item near done. I need to get moving...!

OMG Missy, I am packing up Oreo and paying you a visit :lickout:

Our cookout will be burgers, hot dogs (for Mr. Elliot), corn on the cob, marinated veggies, and a boatloat of mac and cheese! We might grill s'mores for dessert if we have room.

We're having the traditional hamburgers, potato salad, fruit salad, chips. I spent a number of years in NM (college/then another 10 years) & am a huge chili addict. I order it, roast it & then freeze it. We eat Hatch green & red chili on most anything. But nothing beats green chili cheese burgers. IMHO :)

OMG Sarah I am from New Mexico and although we don't live there now we still love our chile. It is nice to see a post from someone else who appreciates Hatch red and green!!!

C'mon over. There is plenty of food and we would love to have you and Oreo visit. I know Francesca, Fred, Tommy and Bobby would love meeting Oreo. :appl: If I remember correctly he looks a bit like our Fred.

And there's always room for s'mores. :cheeky:

OK, Sarah and Sundial, I am currently in New Mexico!
Yes, it's all about the chile, although alot of it is too hot for me :angryfire:

We are veggies, so we are cooking up some veggie kabobs, veggie dogs, veggie burgers and corn on the cob on the grill. Got some mac and cheese, too and I just finished baking a 4 berry pie for dessert. Yummy! :lickout:
