What are alternatives to Tiffany's Lucida Diamonds?

Hey Everyone,
Great to meet you. Brand new member here. When it comes to purchases like this, I always spend time on forums before I feel comfortable enough to fly on my own :-). I've been lingering on this site for some time, however, it was time to sign up and get things moving!

My girlfriend has fallen in love with the Tiffany's Lucida cut (and one of their settings). Luckily for me, she thinks the Tiffany's mark up is crazy and is fine with me finding a good alternative. She has done a little research, as have I, and have found that the Radiant cut is likely the best alternative. Sounds like there are some other cuts as well, however, they are not as easy to find. My girlfriend said a "slightly rectangular radiant cut" is probably the way to go. Would you guys agree? If so, what ratio should I look for so I choose the correct shape?

I'm thinking of going with a 1.75-2 ct. diamond. My question is, when it comes to a cut like the Lucida/Radiant, what color/clarity can I get away with in order to get the largest size for my money? When I say get away with, I mean what color/clarity would be good enough on a 2ct. diamond where no one would see a tint/imperfections with the naked eye? I recall reading that clarity is less important for a cut like this. Also, what should the minimum cut quality be?

Last, are the best prices truly through online vendors, or is it worth looking locally as well?

Thanks so much in advanced. Excited to get the conversation going!

Best,
Esteban

Here's a gorgeous radiant that looks like the Lucida cut : http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/radiant-cut/2.01-carat-g-color-if-clarity-sku-23434

James Allen has had several of these on their site over the last year. I think they are coming from the same cutter & all have been IF in clarity. I was very interested in a 1ct and had it inspected by their gemologist & had an ASET done. I'm kicking myself for not buying it. Anyway they have two in your desired size. If it's in your budget I would consider this one.
A lot of the radiants have a crushed ice look & do not look at all like a Lucida.

woofmama, that stone has a gorgeous facet pattern!!

I think so too MKC! I would buy this in a heart beat if I could afford it :Up_to_something: They had a 1ct J exactly like this which I had on hold, I deeply regret not buying it :((

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, I'm not quite ready to purchase a stone just yet. I'm more curious in finding out information in regards to what the best specs I should go with in order to get the biggest stone for the price at this point. I'm still not sure if I am going to buy online and would love to go into any local shops with a good idea regarding the specs that I am looking for. Thanks again for the help!

Hi, colored-stone fan butting in here with some advice: If the experts on this forum suggest a stone of the kind they wish they had bought, with what looks like remarkable quality, I would strongly consider an immediate on-line purchase. Just numerical specs don't guarantee you a good stone, and over and over again, the brick-and-mortar stores, especially local shops, have disappointed would-be buyers with both quality and price. I don't read a lot of complaints about the highly recommended online sources.
Just saying.....

Thanks for the reply everyone. Unfortunately, I think the timing might be a little off/a little out of my budget. Just so I know for the future, what makes this one so great? Is it the clarity (I thought that wasn't especially important for this cut), the cut type, the cut quality, etc? Any additional information would be very helpful. Thanks!

The Good Old Gold Jubilee is one of the best matches. It's what I would have bought as a similar diamond.

That said, they've stopped cutting them so the currect stock is all they have.

So I know you said you weren't ready to buy. But I advise you to hurry up the time table.

The princess of Hearts is also nice. Not as similar as the Jubilee though. But since those are being cut they might be a better option for you.

H or better color.
SI1 or better clarity, but lower clarity okay if the diamond is eyeclean.

And you want a bright ASET (image that shows light performance).

The Jubilee I linked to above has all of this.

Woofmama, I love how the one you posted and a few gypsy posted in another thread have that faceting and a bit of crown height to the profile! I never had seen radiants that were like this and not crushed ice.

You are right, Radiants do tend to hide inclusions better than some other cuts. Mine is a SI1 and it's completely eyeclean. I can't even find the inclusions with a 10x loupe.

This one is great because of the beautiful regular facet pattern. Mine is more a crushed ice style radiant (purchased well before I discovered pricescope but still a lovely stone) - this one looks a little like a cross between a step cut and a radiant. The facet pattern is just lovely - almost floral in the centre with lovely clipped shoulders. If I had the money I would buy it.

Do you have a budget?

I owned the GOG Jubilee before my upgrade and they are the closest to the Lucida diamonds (square H&A). Excellent optics and sparkle; the cut allows you go drop in colour, if you need to maximize another C. In general, radiants tend to show more colour so you have to play it safer and stay with an H.

When you have your budget firmed up and you are ready to buy, please do come back for assistance here.

Hey Guys. Thanks so much for the replies... I really appreciate the info and advice! I should have a budget/timeline locked down soon and will let you know. I'm thinking about 20K max, but will definitely let you know as soon as I have a better idea. Talk to you all soon!

With Gypsy's endorsement I think the 2.2 is perfect!

Here are Lucida settings - I saw the Vatche in person and liked the quality better than Tiffanys.

http://www.goodoldgold.com/setting/V101/ Priced around $2200 in platinum, slightly less in 18k
http://www.uniquesettings.com/products/show/1975 $1200 in platinum but under $500 in 14k white gold

Also if you contact GOG they can probably work with you and your budget - they were so amazing to deal with. This video is super helpful if you're not sure about Princess of Hearts vs Jubilee Radiants.
