We sent in my 1920s engagement ring to be fixed up recently. It took 3 weeks to have the prongs beefed up and extra metal added to the gallery etc. There is now what looks like leaked out solder on the diamond under two prongs.

Is this normal? What should I do?

No pics, sorry. I don't have a loupe - I can see this with the naked eye.

I would guess that a little polishing compound has gotten jammed under the prongs: that, or that when they cut the seat for the stone, they didn't polish the rough edges before setting. If it's the former, taking it for a nice deep cleaning should do the trick: if the latter, a qualified bench should be able to tidy that up in a jiff with a graver. Either way, not a big deal, not something you should worry about - easy fix.
