What a difference a mm makes...

Hi all, just a photo update - I debuted my 2.01 cttw OEC 5-stone about a month ago (link here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/five-years-five-beautiful-oecs.176766/ ), and I mentioned in some of the comments that I was thinking about taking it back to my jeweler and asking for some small fixes, like setting the stones a little lower.

I did just that, and even though the changes seemed so itty-bitty-small when I asked, it turned out that my ring needed to be completely re-built to accommodate dropping the diamonds down and also sizing it smaller (from an 8 to a 7.5). My jeweler is wonderful and said it was completely no problem - even made a new wax (approving it felt so strange, since there was literally about 1mm difference when I held the first ring up to the new wax).

Anyway - when I got the call and picked up my new and improved ring, it took my breath away! I couldn't believe what a difference just some "small" changes could do. I'm beyond thrilled!

wow - is that just 1 mm difference? I jumped onto your post because I have a new ring and the only thing that I'm concerned about is that it feels just a teeny bit low... I wanted to find out about the possibility of raising it by 1mm but I thought it may sound silly (I mentioned to to ERD when I looked at the original CAD but it was hard for me to be able to really tell if they raised it or not).. Great example of how it can change things! Super.

Last batch!

MelbourneGirl, I should apologize because my title is a little misleading - we didn't actually measure the difference before making changes. When I approved the wax, I put the ring (Before) on the second's wax, and noticed that the spread of the trellis was only wider by about a width of a prong on either side. In terms of the height, it was a little difficult to tell a difference at all (partly also because the ring was a 1/2 size smaller), but again, it looked like about the width of a prong difference..at most I could believe that it was a 2mm difference in height, but I estimate about 1.5mm or less. I understand what you're saying about asking for small changes - I felt so silly when approving the wax, because it seemed like the changes were so miniscule - I could barely tell that there was a difference. But yes, seeing the update, I think the difference is huge!

Love the new lower setting! It does seem amazing that such a tiny change can have such a powerful effect but I much prefer the trellis swoop and height on this setting! And the prongs - :lickout: - don't even get me started on the claws!!!! I am such a sucker for good prongs and those are WAAAAAAY nicer this time around.

Awesome ring (again!) love it :appl:

so pretty!

Wow! Huge difference!!! Amazing!!

Yay!!! :appl: That looks 1000 times better! It was just too high before. I am SO glad you pursued changing it and that your jeweler agreed to remake the ring!

Thanks for the clarification - I get what you mean. It still makes me think I should pursue making my engagement ring a smidge higher, sometimes you just 'know' when something isn't 100% right..

Looks SO SO SO much better it's amazing!!!

Wow, what a difference! It looks amazing!! Kudos to you for pursuing what your gut told you!

Much better, I like the way it hugs your finger now instead of poking your other fingers.

That is definitely a great improvement, I love the lower setting and the new prongs  Beautiful ring!

That's an incredible transformation! Gorgeous diamonds and it looks perfect on your hand in the new and improved setting. You were so smart to do that!

Wow wow wow...

That is amazing. It is just so "right" now, it just flows so much better.

MUCH better. Good eye! I did think it was a little high before and out of scale, but now it is pure perfection! Bravo!

It is a huge difference! The reset is simply gorgeous!

Sorry I've been so slow to respond!

Enerchi - thank you! Yes, the pointy prongs are much better! I love them too.

Peasypeas- thank you!!

Athenaworth- yes, I think the difference is huge, too! Thank you :)

Diamond seeker -thank you! I'm very glad how understanding my jeweler was, too. Frankly, I don't think the first ring was truly indicative of their level of craftsmanship, and I'm so pleased that they took the opportunity to make it perfect in every way.

Melbournegirl - definitely go with your gut! It's ok to be picky and get what you really want!

Junerose - thank you!!

Yenny- thanks! I knew almost immediately when I got it that there would be changes..it just took me a little time to be able to decide what needed to happen and how to articulate exactly what I needed. I'm glad I waited a little bit and was working with someone who was able to understand exactly what I meant.

Lknvrb4- definitely! The first ring wasn't uncomfortable, but the spread wasn't right. I have pudgy fingers, so the up close photos are a little terrifying to me, but the overall fit is much much better. The first ring was too big and constantly getting knocked around or making me feel nervous about losing it every time I washed my hands. So now it's the right size and the right shape.

Feb03- thanks!!

Stargurl78- thank you!!

Rosebloom- thanks! I just wish I would have been smarter to begin with and been more vigilant about the prong height of the wax. It's just really hard to tell with the wax IMO.

Natasha - thank you!! I agree :)

Tgal - thanks! Yes, out of scale is the best way to describe it. It was a pretty ring, but just a little off. I'm pleased as punch with it now :)

Gem-anemone - thank you!!

Again, thanks to all for the compliments! I'm very happy with the changes and definitely digging the 5 stone Oec...packs a lot of punch, especially now that the setting is right.
