A while back we had WF make an eternity for our 20th, which I wear as a left hand ring. My ering since has been demoted to 2nd string. It is/was a JB Star setting, with a 1.77 E VS GIA center. Color & clarity great, cut was only good--purchased many years ago prior to PS enlightenment. ;) After much deliberation back & forth, we decided to get a re-cut.

We sent the center off to Bob Hoskins @ WF--who determined it was indeed eligible for a re-cut. Just got the results, 'the was & now' is stunning.

Bob said it is now considered to be in the WF Expert Selection category, AGS 000.

It went from a 1.77 to a 1.61 ct, 7.74 to a 7.51 diameter. He said it is gorgeous; can’t wait to see it!!

We are putting it into a 3 stone, will post SMTB pics when the ring is finished.

Here are some was/now images for review:

Amazing. :appl: Could you post before and after specs (particularly diameter). I'd be very interested to see understand how things were trimmed down.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, approx how much per carat did the recut cost?

Here are a couple more comparisons, we are thrilled!

Amazing!!! :appl:
The recut made all the difference. From ordinary to extraordinary! Wear in much health and happiness. :appl:

Oh Wow! That's amazing!!! I bet it will be first string again!

Wow! that's great!

Here you go teobdl:

It went from a 1.77 to a 1.61 ct, 7.74 to a 7.51 diameter.

As far as cost, I'm sure its on a case by case basis. I did not mind 'paying' to have WF do the re-cut, since the eternity is an all ACA band & is simply gorgeous.

Ooooh yes! Can't wait to see the pictures of your finished ring!

Definitely worth the effort. Congrats on a new serious performer!

I would love it to move back into 1st string!!

Am stunned by the diff as far as photos go, can't wait to see the real thing.

Am sort of dismayed at the jeweler/salesperson we bought the original stone from though--leaves me with an icky feeling :blackeye:

WOW, what a transformation!! I can't wait to see your new three-stone :appl:
And OMG, I had no idea WF did re-cuts!!

This should be a sticky for what a difference cut can make.

Wow, indeed!!!   That was well worth doing!!! It is gorgeous and it didn't lose much weight! I also didn't know they did recuts!

And yay for a 3 stone ring!!!

Gorgeous! What a difference! Now I'm tempted to tell my mom to send her old diamonds for recut. Have you decided on the design of your new ring? I cannot wait to see pictures!

Beautiful!! :appl:

Truthfully, I am so done with obsessing over what to do with this thing--this is a huge I mean HUGE relief to be done with this decision, FINALLY--am able to put this behind me. Some of you may relate

I also ordered the Harmony band to go with it with .02 sized melee.

Now, just the countdown until it arrives.

Its just a simple platinum trellis--using past WF experience as a guide I'm sure it'll be just fine ;))

sarahb- it looks beautiful! Does WF offer recuts as a standard service? I am considering a recut of 1.5 ct pear (my original engagement diamond).

Can't wait to see your pictures (I loooove your eternity).

facetgirl: I had no idea if they did recuts--as Bob & I dialoged about this diamond both when we did the eternity, forwarded to now discussing the 3 stone, I sent the diamond to them for the 3 stone re-set. I was somewhat ambivalent: asked him to tell me what he honestly thought, or if a re-cut was possible/thinking he could recommend someone to me if so, or should we punt on this stone & get another. Understand, I had not been happy with its appearance for quite some time/years. They said yes, a recut was possible, & off we went. So it wasn't exactly a 'search' on my behalf for a recut, it just turned out that way. :)) Thank you so much re your compliment on my eternity, I do love it!!

I so appreciate everyones input-- don't follow the numbers on stones etc, so could not tell you a thing by looking at angles etc, I'm glad we did move forward with the re-cut.

Wow! That is an amazing transformation! Can't wait to see your new three stone ring. How soon is it going to arrive?

MGR: some time end of Feb beginning of March, they did a good job didn't they :appl:

Amazing! Can't wait to see the finished ring!

What a transformation! I can't wait until you see it in real life and also get it set. The poor eternity will be second string now!

That is really cool. I didn't know WF did recuts.

Awesome! And E color, too. :-)

Is there any way to know if a stone is eligible for a recut? Is it possible for all shapes?

WOW!! Beautiful!

Lookinagain, I don't know precisely the stipulations a stone must meet in order to be a good candidate for a recut. I do know that mine was a deep stone.

If you have a Certification ie AGS or GIA on the stone, I would contact Bob Hoskins at WF, send it to him, & ask. They may want to see the stone in person in order to render an opinion.

My stone, even though it went from a 1.77 to a 1.61, looks so much bigger now, due to the cut. I can't believe it, it was a dud before, & now it's a firecracker. What shape do you have now?
