WF ACA Light Return Question

Hi,
I am considering a pair of RB diamond solitaires from WF. I have never seen ACA diamonds in person, but I do own some ideal cut diamonds, which while beautiful, are mainly brilliant and not so much fiery. For those who own/are familiar w/ACA, are the diamonds more brilliant than fiery? In other words, do they exhibit more white light than colored light return? How is the scintillation? What is recommended to get a fiery, scintillating diamond? Thank you!

Hi

You can read the topic below - John Pollard talks about this very subject -

Should I spend close to 12k on this diamond?

As a general rule for rb stones

Small table % <57
High Crown angle >35

(with complimentary other proportions)

increase fire ( at expense of some brilliance )

I'm sure the experts here will come along and add to this (or correct me!!) or address specifics you might raise.

My ACA has everything - fire, brilliance & scintillation and is "on" in all lighting situations; even in the lowest light it is able to capture & throw back color.
Before the ACA I had an Ideal cut that was a fireball, but take it out of the sunlight and it was just another pretty face. My understanding is that the super ideals are cut to be very balanced so they exhibit all the excellent light performance qualities a diamond can have.

Whether one would meet your expectations is an unknown, but mine is the most beautiful round diamond I've ever had. It would be worth it to check out.

The 60/60 diamond, and the lower crown angle and large table will yield more brilliance that fire, often. The have fire, you need a steeper crown angle, a small table and a decent % of the diamond as crown height, say 15% crown just to pick a number out of the air. Lower girdle facets 80% make slivery arrows, something like 76% makes fatter arrows and broader flashes. See the Good Old Gold article on minor facets.

http://niceice.com/diamond-buying-secrets/15-seconds-diamond-buying-success/ gives the basis for what most of Pricescope recommends.
Although there are a myriad of combinations of angles and degrees which will produce optimal light return in a round brilliant ideal cut diamond, you can narrow the field of possibilities and dramatically improve your chances of successfully selecting a gorgeous diamond by keeping the proportions of the diamond within the center range of the spectrum for the ideal cut proportions rating. We consider the center range to be as follows:

Total depth between 59 – 61.8%
Table diameter between 53 – 58%
Crown angle between 34.3 – 34.8 degrees
Pavilion angle between 40.6 – 40.9 degrees
Girdle thickness between thin and slightly thick
Culet: AGS pointed or GIA none

See how the ACA parameters stack up against those. Brian Gavin developed the ACA spec while he was at Whiteflash, so his diamonds might be very similar.

Thank you all.
