Yeay for Lorelei''s husband! Quitting smoking is truly the single best thing you can do for your health, and lower blood pressure doesn''t hurt either!

Another 50 minutes bike ride today. I''m splurging and having Kraft mac and cheese for dinner. I checked out the nutrition information, and I think the best one is the "Supermac" which is 200 calories per serving if you make it without butter (which I never use anyway). Plus they added a bunch of calcium, which is always a bonus. So I''ll eat the whole box for 600 cals and be near the top of my range for today. No nice dinner out for me tonight, but I''m jealous of those that are going out! I''m already planning what I''m going to get on March 15th, when fiance and I are hitting up the oyster bar

Interesting stuff mrrijoy. It''s not the first time I''ve heard that people who exercise regularly (at least 3 times a week) are way less likely to suffer dementia related illness. I also believe there''s a heredity link and while there''s never been any alzheimer cases in my family (either side), I''m not taking that for granted. So, I for one will keep on working out and doing everything I can to decrease my chances of having bad old age related problems!

Evening everyone. We met our friends for dinner and it was good, but I really missed having our Friday night Sushi. I know we''re going for Sushi tomorrow night, but I actually felt cheated. But, we''ll work out tomorow. I couldn''t imagine a Saturday without the gym. Then we''re going to try a new Sushi restaurant we''ve heard good things about. Hopefully, it is as good as we''ve heard.

Will report tomorrow evening. Have a great Friday night!

hehe rod...i ended up not having sushi tonite so it's funny to read you feel cheated by not having yours (honestly sometimes i wonder how you guys can eat sushi that much, i mean i love it too as you know, but 2-3x a week?! i don't think i could do it! hehe)...i was at the gym and i started feeling lazy about having to go to the market AND then ordering and picking up sushi on the way home...and greg said he didn't mind not having it...so i got this fresh asian salad at the market (330 cals for a huge salad with chicken and dressing). i know we are going out to have a fabulous meal tomorrow night so i don't mind giving up sushi tonite. we'll have it next week or something!

anyhow, went to the gym...somehow managed to power through an hour workout on the elliptical...it's so funny but does anyone else get tired spells while working out, then energized again? i swear i went through like 3 bouts of that tonite, oh my god i'm not going to make it, legs feel so heavy, tired...and then oh yeah i'm in the groove, i can go on this for another 30 minutes, then back to tired etc. lol! sometimes i wonder how i make it. but i seem to!!! that's the important part. also i ran out of magazine partway through and had to get another one. so anyway i burned 565 cals on the machine and then did about 10 minutes of weight training for arms for about a total of 600ish cals (my hrm used to tell me i burned about 35-45 cals doing 7-10 min of arm weights after a workout so i just use that as an estimate since i typically do the same stuff for my arms). my goal today was 550 so i was glad to exceed it slightly..whee.

so then came home, took a super hot shower, put some energy gel on my muscles and then heated up my leftover 2 servings of chicken shu mai from TJs...and took half of the asian salad and there's my dinner! both were incredibly yummy! the salad very much so, i was impressed. it's one of those fresh deli kind of salads that the higher end supermarket chains have...and it was really good. and healthy!

dessert i'm hemming and hawing over...i have too many options. a 1/2 a really good truffle...or a few 30 cal truffles and a jello caramel dulce de leche pudding cup with whipped cream...or a rice crispy treat and a truffle or 2 servings of slow churned or... well the list goes on. hahaa. we'll see. i notice i have gotten really involved mentally with dessert whereas before i never really had a dessert. but as long as i maintain, it doesn't matter i guess!

oh and i got some more of those fresh YUMMY low-fat, low-cal cinnamon rolls from the market (why i went in the first place and i got the last one!!)...they come in a 4 pack in a bakery container...so we'll have them for breakfast tomorrow and then i'll probably keep the other 2 for breakfast during the week. heat them up a bit in the micro and we're in business!

hehe is anyone else home tonite or just me? greg has rehearsal so i'm just curled up on the couch watching my soaps. and contemplating dessert. hehe. i am SO looking fwd to sleeping in tomorrow and helping kick this cold...hopefully life doesn't have other plans, don't you hate when you are able to sleep in but somehow wake up at like 8am and can't go back to sleep?! hope that doesnt happen.

anyway hope everyone had a wonderful friday and is looking fwd to a great weekend!!!

Hey everyone, not checking in much in terms of posting, but I''ve enjoyed reading everyone''s posts and how well everyone is doing.

I''m doing pretty well, although this week wasn''t a great workout week. However, since I didn''t once get home before 8:30pm all week, I figure that 3 workouts is pretty good, especially since I''ve kept the calories under control (actually a little lower than usual - February average was only around 1330/day).

I helped out at a huge benefit event last night for the animal shelter that I volunteer at, and I figure that 5 hours running around after and taking care of and walking 300 dogs (many of them in costume) counts as a workout, LOL

Mara - that''s exciting about Sleeping Beauty. Me and DH saw it last week and it was lots of fun, though very long, and I''m not a fan of the fact that they cut it down to only one intermission. Where do you guys go to eat? My mom has season''s tickets, and we''re always looking for good places to eat near the Opera House, mostly without success. I''d love to hear where you go that you like.

Amber..I didn't know you were in SF! Or maybe I did and I jiust zoned out...hehee. You will have to come along next time we have a SF GTG!

In any case, we typically eat at Jardiniere...right next to the Opera House parking garage. We love the food and the fact that they have live music and the ambiance inside the restaurant is super cool. My family loves it too and my parents are pretty picky about restaurants/ambiance/noise levels kinda thing....we have gone there a few times after outings at the Symphony Hall or similar as a group. We always make ressies as it can get packed fast before or after the Opera/Ballet/Symphony. Typically we prefer to eat later so we don't mind a 10:30ish ressie or similar.

Last time we ate at Sauce which is about a 6 or 7 block walk from the Opera House. I think over near Gough. Anyway...it was really good as well, it's a tiny new place and they have a different take on comfort food like truffled grilled cheese sandwiches cutup into sticks and served with their tomato bisque, SO GOOD!!!! Also they had a bunch of other stuff I can't remember (distracted by the truffled sandwiches and tomato)...but we liked it for sure. Definitely worth a try, they had yummy drinks too if I remember.

This time we are going to Absinthe Brasserie (
www.absinthe.com) which looks to have a similar menu to Jardiniere in terms of kind of a french california take on the food...they have an oyster bar (Greg loves oysters), as well as a cheese menu which Greg also loves. A few things on the menu caught my eye and their dessert menu looks divine, Scharffen Berger pot de creme?!?! I just hope they have it, it says the menu changes daily. We walked by it last time we were going to Sauce and it looked really cool inside, so this time I was like hey lets try something different.

A few years ago we tried Citizen Cake and were not impressed but that was about 4 years ago so we have never tried it again. But it's still there so maybe we'll give it a try again but they don't serve late...that is another must have for us because we don't like to eat too early, aka 6pm because then the ballet is over and we'll be hungry again!

I'm super excited about SB...and yes I noticed it was 2.5 hours and figured 1 intermission. Swan Lake last year was 3 hours with 2 intermissions, now that was kind of too long! Anyhow, let me know if you or your family try any of the places next time! OH and a tip for the future when you guys go. Try
www.opentable.com when you are making plans. I use them religiously for ressies for restaurants, esp in SF. You can search by 'area'...so you put in Civic Center/Opera House and it shows you what is near there. You can look by $$$ or type of food and it also gives Gayot ratings etc. I have to say that I have only been disappointed once or twice by restaurants on there in the last 5 years we have been using it! It's where I found Sauce last time too.

On the 'health' tip..lol (since none of those places are healthy! but GOOD)...i got a new jello pudding 60 cal sugar free snack pudding flavor tonite, the dulce de leche..which is vanilla pudding with a caramel topping...okay it was REALLY GOOD. sounds so silly but it really tasted like a REAL dessert! i put some fat free whip on it and i could almost imagine i was at a restaurant, not a TOP notch one but at least a good one, hehe. so definitely jazzed about finding a new snackie dessert that doesn't break the cal bank. hehe.

Hubby is so pleased with all your good wishes and thanks you!!!!! It is a great thing to have proof positive that you have helped your health by quitting smoking.

I will be careful Rod with the hands free ellip sessions, I think it is a good way for me to work the core. Funny thing is, a friend of mine has had disc trouble and been unable to work or walk for almost a year. She is doing much better and her doc said for her to do hands free elliptical as this is a good way to strengthen the lower back, she isn''t to use the arms at all.

I had a great workout last night, my usual hour. I have also started recording the cals burnt like Mara does to give me extra incentive, I did almost 600 last night.

Have a great weekend all

Morning All,

Went for a nice 45 minute walk yesterday afternoon and today is a workout day.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday morning!

Hi all,

We made delicious quesadillas last night from the new CL: hot-smoked salmon quesadillas (posted in recipes thread). Fantastic!! Truly better than most restaurant quesadillas I''ve had and healthyish to boot! We used fat-free tortillas and Fage 2% instead of sour cream, so it was actually probably even healthier than the nutritional info says.
36.gif
The hot-smoked salmon is really smoky-flavored, so a little goes a long way, I think (then again, I''m not the hugest seafood-lover).

And I just made a batch of sauce for Ms. Mara''s famous lasagna for dinner tonight. I got the ingredients at WF, and they didn''t have Emeril''s sauce so I got some organic ''garlic-garlic'' flavor, and it''s definitely not the same. So I dumped in more oregano, basil, and some hot pepper flakes and salt, and it seems much yummier now. Looking forward to it!

Off to the gym in a few minutes, where I AM GOING TO DO 30 MINS ON THE ELLIPTICAL. There, now that I''ve said it, I must do it.

Hello all! I''m starting to feel back among the land of the living--or at least of the working outing, LOL. I did 45 mins on the elliptical this morning for 470 cals, but I kept my heartrate below 140. I was going to go for a full hour but toward the end I started to feel a little tighness in my chest and decided I had better not push a good thing. Plus I ended up lifting and carrying a lot of things around yesterday at my office while I tried to finish up a bunch of small projects related to our space renovation. If I had to haul that stupid ladder up and down the stairs one more thing I was going to SCREAM!

Anyway, I had a 60 cal yogurt before I went to the gym this morning (MARA - BTW, it did not stay with me yesterday morning, so this is definitely more of a snack thing than a full breakfast thing) and now I''m having butternut squash soup with crutons to the tune of 240 cals. (I know I know, soup at 9:40 in the morning probably grosses some of you out... )

My original plan today was to go to a relatively new outlet mall that opened near me and look for some spring accessories (I don''t really want to buy clothes though because hopefully this 11 pounds lost is just the beginning), but my clients wrote an offer on the expensive house last night so if the negotiations go well I''ll be running paperwork around all day. Hmmm... what to do what to do... And the electrician came at 7:00 this morning to hang the light fixture in the dining room (which looks FANTASTIC BTW!) so I might just spend the afternoon sitting in the living room reading a book and admiring the new light!

Thanks for the suggestions Mara - I think Absinthe sounds the best right now. We''ve actually been once before but it was a while ago, and I didn''t realize they did lunch (we have matinee tickets). I really hope you and Greg enjoy Sleeping Beauty!

lorelei i am happy you said that about the elliptical with no hands because i don''t use the arms things at all anymore and haven''t for over a month or two...can''t recall. anyway sometimes i hold the little mini handles in front, or sometimes i just let my arms hang down and sometimes i hold them up and angled like i am walking and kind of move them back and forth. honestly, i find it''s a less ''jarring'' workout to be twisting my body this way and that, i think i might have started doing it when i hurt my stomach, and i wanted a workout but not a twisty turny workout. i also find that i can feel it a bit in the core when i do it like this...and also when i go backwards, i can move my hips a bit more and get more of a hip kinda glute workout than with the forward motion. so i try different things and also i totally go faster on it when i DON''T use my arms on the arm things. so it''s just a faster paced workout for me this way which i like. plus i can use my legs for power which is where most of our power typically is!

ela...it''s so funny how the lasagna changes each time someone makes it. i was just telling a friend this, that i have made it like 6+ times...and each time it''s a little different because it depends on what kind of sauce the store had, what kind of mushrooms i put in, etc. and it does make it taste really different each time!! so far my fave is using the emeril''s kicked up tomato with a blend of baby bellas, shitake and crimini mushrooms. it was really flavorful. but last time i used emeril''s roasted red pepper with criminis and it was almost as good..and definitely more SPICY thanks to the red pepper! so if anyone likes it a bit more spicy, try the emerils roasted red pepper. i have tried other sauces too but they are definitely more bland in general. emeril''s to me is one of the more flavorful sauces out there, less sugar maybe? and more TASTE...and really good on the calories too, aka 70 or 80 per 1/2c whereas a lot of the other ones are like 80-110 per 1/2c. and when you use the whole jar, that can count! anyway we made the lasagna last sunday again and ate it til tues. i really do love it, it''s definitely my fave recipe for a hearty meal that you can prep ahead and make to keep for a few days in the fridge. i''m so happy the WWT''ers love it too, hehe.

so some random ramblings now to ensue....last nite i ended the night at about 1515 cals which was off my whole original 1700ish to 1800ish estimate if we had had sushi, so i enjoyed kind of staying under what i thought we''d eat because tonite all bets are off at dinner...i plan to enjoy myself big time! hehe. and i have been really proud of myself this week...basically last week i had my highest average per day calorie intake at about an average of 1950 per day for 7 days...and while i did not gain any weight (probably due to my rigorous workout schedule last week, burning 2750 cals), that was just way too much eating for me to feel really *comfortable* with it on a long-term weekly basis. so i decided to make this a leaner week and still prove to myself i had that ''self control'' we always talk about on here, because i was getting a little too free with the eating. and while i don''t need to be super strict with myself anymore in maintenance stage, i also don''t want to lapse into laziness and slowly start thinking ''oh i can eat that and that because i did it last week and it was fine''...kinda thing. for someone who loves food like me, i always have to remind myself about moderation.

so anyway this week so far my average has been about 1500 per day...today will be a high caloric intake day, i''m estimating about 2150 total, and then tomorrow i have 1550 scheduled, so my total per day average for the week should be around 1600-1650. which i am really happy about!! because it shows MYSELF that i can still do it if i have to...and it doesn''t have to be painful to have to have self-control. this week, i had donuts, cinnamon rolls, yummy multigrain bread, lasagna, a bean and cheese burrito, pizza at work, lots of slow churned ice cream, hostess mini cakes..etc...and i am still at a low caloric average which is awesome. because weeks like this show me...hey you don''t have to indulge in EVERY whim you have, but you can still LIVE LIFE and eat what you want as long as you don''t do it all the time, and you also make smart, healthy choices for other meals or snacks.

i think last week when i had that huge intake day on saturday, where i estimate i consumed about 2700 cals bothered me. i don''t typically give into little whims on food like that, but i was sick and greg was gone and i was so bored at home, and i just kept eating. and i realized i was never full, never satisfied, even though i gave into EVERY WHIM i had (at some point i decided it could be an experiment lol). and really that showed me something. on sunday i was like HMM. interesting. so i ate all that food yesterday. and today i feel super bloated, and unhappy because while a lot of it was HEALTHY stuff, it all was not *necessary* for my body to have. it was a mental feeding not a physical. and it didn''t make me feel any better or make my cold go away. it really kind of rung a bell for me AGAIN (sometimes i think we all need to have reminders of this for ourselves..) that overindulgence is not good, does not feel good, and is not fun to have to pay for the next day. esp if it''s not even fabulous dessert overindulgence, lol. now that i can justify!

anyway i am rambling now, but that was me last saturday and this is me this week and i am really happy that i could show myself i still have *it* and can pull *it* out when i need to (IT being self control with yummy foods when i need to...)...so hopefully now that i wrote this i won''t go have another overeating day, lol...but i feel pretty good now about reigning it in and not letting myself get too sloppy or lazy with indulgences. i have an extreme personality so i always like to go totally one way or the other (aka all of that dessert or none is easier than 1/2), moderation is harder for me to accept. so i always feel like i have to re-teach myself that from time to time.

i was thinking next week i might switch it up and not workout for 3 days straight and give my body a little chance to heal up a bit...maybe just do some light walking around the neighborhoods, but i have been pushing it kind of hard the last 2-3 weeks and i don''t want to injure myself. my legs definitely feel sore when i do these 2-3 day consecutive workouts and i don''t want them to give up one day. also i was reading about how your body loves when you ''switch it up'' a bit...aka your body supposedly bases your metabolism for today on the last 2 days of your eating and working out/activities. it just goes off of what recent history you gave it. but if you suddenly eat a lot less OR a lot more OR work out harder OR work out not at all...do something different than what you did the last few days, it confuses it! and changes how it works. so if you have a light day your metabolism might slow a bit but then if you have a large food day the next day, it has to revv it up and work harder so you might see benefits of that revving up for aonther day or so because it will assume you will have 2 large food days in a row. (does this make sense? i feel incoherent, not enough coffee?)...anyway...i found the article kind of interesting. so now i am trying to do different things every once in a while...like this week of lower caloric intake can kind of shake it up, then next week if i don''t work out as much that can shake it up too. maybe i''ll add extra servings of veggies and fruits in next week and do less carbs or something. see how it reacts.

anyhow, hope everyone is having a wonderful saturday, it''s sunny here finally and should be around 70 which makes me very happy! going to finally get out into the patio garden and do a bit more work on getting my roses ready today..and tomorrow. we''re talking a walk/run today...ala where greg runs for 45 minutes and i power walk...at this local park/trail...so i plan to do my 3miles that way.

lol DJ re the 60 cal yogurt, yeah those are nice ''fillers'' for me between a meal and the next or similar but i couldn''t imagine starting my day with it solely..my poor body would be like hey what else ya got out there for me...hehee. elailla, those salmon quesadillas sound interesting, i love seafood but i''m not a huge salmon person however smoked salmon might be really good in something like that, definitely a strong taste. kimberly good luck during the workout!!

I just tried it Mara for 6 mins on the elliptical with hands free, I held the small handles at the front and it was actually quite comfortable, I could really feel it in my legs, so I am pleased with my first attempt with it, and will build up to longer without the arms. I just did an hour again, so I have managed a few good workouts this week!

yay lorelei. i find that the workout is different for me if i hold the small handles, or let hands fall by sides OR hold at angle and pump a bit. it feels like each one either raises or lowers the difficulty and also what is ''working''. kinda interesting for sure. anyway just be sure to be careful...but i definitely like the hands-free workouts for sure more than having to use the arm things. especially since 3x a week i go and do 10 minutes of arm specific work so i am getting an arm workout that is probably better for me than just using the arm things...and i have gotten great arm and upper body definition just from doing that.

Well, I didn't do 30 on the elliptical
7.gif
I'm having the hardest time keeping motivated on cardio! It's all I can do to stay on there for 20 minutes (which is what I did today). I was watching tv, doing the "OK, five more minutes" thing in my head, and still I just couldn't take it anymore! It's not that I'm "fatiguing" (as in, I can't do one more step), I just get like, "ENOUGH of this!!" I must get past this phase - help!! I mean, I'm happy that I'm doing 20 minutes/160-170 calories -- I'm not trying to lose weight so I don't need a huge calorie burn -- but I'm annoyed with myself that I can't do longer than that! (sigh) Maybe I need an iPod after all. My gym has lots of different channels, but maybe TV isn't enough for me.

On a happier note, I got in a great abs and arms workout.
36.gif

And I finally found the mini Hostess 100-cal packs, and I actually laughed out loud when I saw the size of them!! Each little cake is like the size of a half-dollar -- hahah! But as Mara said before, three cakes (one pack) really is a good amount -- you feel like you're splurging, but it's within reason
1.gif

Just had leftover salmon quesadilla for lunch, and it's seriously SO good ...

Hi all, been really busy this week so havent had time to post much!! Everyone still seems to be doing really well!

Ive lost another 2 lbs this week, even though I havent had time to go to the gym much so Im 18 lbs down in total. Went to the gym today and did 45 mins on the cross trainer and then did weights for another 15 minutes. D and I took amber for a two hour walk too so got plenty of exercise. Hopefully the weight loss continues!!

Hope you all have a good weekend!

aww ela...don't be too hard on yourself for not being able to stay on the elliptical. maybe since you are not trying to lose weight you can do more muscle resistance aka weight training and less on the machines anyway? it is hard sometimes to get going but i find that i hit my stride AFTER 20-30 minutes. it's always in those first 20-30 that i am like 'gosh am i going to make it 45' ... much less 60. but i think music helps a HUGE amount. i would die without my ipod for sure. so for me the mix of music, magazine, TV (sometimes i get distracted watching a news broadcast), and also daydreaming keeps me going. though some days yes it's super hard. and lol re the mini cakes, i know they are tiny but when you eat all 3 it's somehow 'just enough'. mostly. hehe.

bee congrats on more weight loss! that's wonderful...keep up the great work!

so i went to the flower nursery, oh my god...i only visit this one once a year and now i remember why. they have such an awesome selection and really top quality, they specialize in roses which are my thing...and i had to replace 2-3 that died last year due to really a really hot dry summer and my negligence (bad rose mommy) so i wanted to go there and get the best...but of course they also have an amazing selection of lots of other things too...and things just kept finding their way into my cart...soooo...way too much money later and lots of walking around the nursery i was starving! the cinnamon roll stayed with me for a few hours but after that my body was like hey where's lunch.

so i came home, unloaded all my goodies (greg was like oh are we redoing the entire patio...woopsie) and then made this odd concoction that seemed like it'd work...it was nonfat greek yogurt (not fage, some other brand), fiber one cereal, some honey, chopped banana and splenda. seems like it'd be really yummy right. well it was sweet that is for sure and it was good, but SOMETHING in it tasted off from time to time. not quite in every bite. honestly, to describe it, i would get this odd taste of throwup. i know, totally not appealing. but it was intermittent. and other than that it was good...like i could taste the fiber one, the banana,...i think it was the yogurt that was tasting odd? so i'm thinking gosh i better stick with fage from now on, at least i know i like that taste. has anyone else had greek yogurts that are not fage? are they different tasting? i have a 0% fage in the fridge but i left it in my purse for like 4 hours the other night, and i thought well if it's going bad i don't want to eat it now before our big night out, what if i get sick at the ballet or something...i figure i'll eat it another day when i am like going to be home or something just in case haha. don't wanna waste it! in any case...i'm glad i ate this concoction because i got a ton of protein AND fiber and some sugars because we are going for our walk in a few minutes and i want to be chipper and perky for my 3m. but yeah that weird little aftertaste thing going on was odd.

anyhow we are going for our walk/run soon, and then we plan to take a little nap because we'll be up so late tonite...then we'll get ready and off we go!! quick day today..i am going to do all my fun patio garden planting stuff tomorrow, i can't WAIT to see what it all looks like when it's all done. spring is absolutely my favorite time of year mostly because of how beautiful all the gardens and flowers are....it's when everything is lush and happy...summer i really don't like much at all because of the dry heat here, the plants take a TON of care and they never look as good, they just are too beaten by the sun and our patio gets hot. i am always out there watering all summer long. but spring, when everything is still moist from winter rest...is just my favorite.

enjoy the rest of the day/evening everyone!!

Happy afternoon all. I had a great workout this morning, although I was doing that cyclical tired/not tired thing you were referring to, Mara. I burned 500 calories and am on track for burning 2000+ calories this week, which is great. Having a low-cal day today, about 1300 calories total, which is great!

Ela, I made the turkey lasagna too. I will agree with Mara that the Emeril sauces are the best that I have tried so far for the cal count. It was the only time I didn't have to add anything. This time I used Newman's Sockarooni (or something to that effect). My secret weapon for adding flavor to any sauce that doesn't cut the mustard has been tapatio hot sauce and ketchup. It just adds the kick and slight sweetness that I am looking for.

Our batch last night turned out awesome. TGuy just loves this stuff and wanted it for breakfast today too. hehehe. Used the dreamfields pasta and it turned out great, but this time I did add the half cup of water, which was good since I did not soak the pasta at all.

I think I burned about 1400 cal for the week, since I missed my gym workout, but I am OK with that. I was going to go skating or walking today but feel like just lounging around until we go out tonight and I am giving myself that luxury. Happy weekend everyone!

ETA, Mara, I have had TJ's greek yogurt, which was OK, but I didn't like it as much as the Fage (which is a lot more expensive). That is why I sticking to the Fage...there's something not quite right about the other one that I tried.

whee just got back from the park/trail and everyone was out there! we saw like 50 dogs! and tons more runners, cyclists, walkers etc. good to see so many active people on a sunny day. it was pretty warm, i walked in a tank and capri sweats...and was sweating. we did about 3m walking for 50 min, and greg did a 50 minute run. portia LOVED being out, saw some cats and squirrels...now she's going to be down for the count the rest of the day!! my legs are feeling it too, i think they definitely need a break...i am going to do my workout at the gym tomorrow and then take monday off...maybe tues and we'll see how it feels. it's funny because you use your legs for so much other than working out, aka just getting around, so i want to take care of them for sure. i'll put some energy gel on them as well after my shower and maybe a heating pad.

TG i was wondering about the other yogurts...i know i like the fage so i just might stick with that and not use any more future funky other greek yogurts, hehee. i do use the one i ate for cooking and it works for that, but maybe not so much the straight eating raw kinda thing. plus i only get like 2 fage's a week and at like $1.60 or whatever each, they aren't really breaking the bank hehe.

we're going to have leftover mac n'cheese in a bit, i made greg a box last nite with 1 tablespoon butter and 1/2c 1% milk and reserved 1/2 for us for a late lunch today..i'm just going to take a bit and give greg the rest since he was the one who did the 950 cal run ... hehe. i'm also going to quick steam some broccoli florets in the microwave then mix them into the mac n' cheese for some added nutritional value. then we'll share a sliced apple. this 'mini meal' is going to have to last us til 10:45pm dinner tonite, so i want to make it count!!

congrats on getting through the workout kimberly...i hate those days when it seems like it's push and shove but then afterwards you feel so much better, it makes it totally worth it. TG...i was telling greg how the lasagna is such a big hit on here and he was cracking up. oh and for using the dreamfields, what i did last time was add a tiny bit of water directly onto the pasta sauce as i was building it into the dish...and i think that helps cook the pasta. i made it in a clear pyrex square dish this time which was actually really cool because you can SEE how the dish is cooking in the oven, and see that the lasagna is cooked...because it gets all bendy and soft looking. and then i could see the little steam/water bubbles rising from the bottom through the lasagna. so that was pretty sweet.

Well, let me tell you, it was not a hit when I first made it...but it was pretty much user error!

The key to a it being good is making sure you like the sauce! And as for the dreamfield''s, I just used tomato sauce and carefully rubbed a thin layer on each of the pastas while I was building it, which probably helped as well. Do you know if these regular noodles have more cals than the no boils we used before?

actually the dreamfields is 190c for 56 grames (2 noodles) and the no boil barilla is 190c for 51g (3 pieces) so basically the same. but the dreamfields has less sugar and more fiber plus honestly i think it tastes the same. i use 6 pieces of dreamfields in my square dish...but i end up breaking off the bottom 1/4 of each to get them to fit. hehe.

i just wanted to comment on the chocolate pumpkin muffins mara posted. i tried them with a milk chocolate mix a couple of weeks ago and really like the recipe. thanks for posting it. i made spice cake mix and pumpkin last night and i really like those also. i think i might even like that combo better.

oh what a good idea crown, the spice cake and pumpkin!!

i have a bunch of cake mixes in the pantry (they were on sale for 79cents, couldn''t resist) for trying with the diet soda idea...but also i have been thinking of using vanilla nonfat yogurt as well OR pumpkin...so the spice cake and pumpkin sounds yummy!

Happy Saturday Everyone. It was a beautiful day in Raleigh. I had a really bad night last night and didn't sleep but a few hours (will explain why in a minute), but we managed to have a full and pretty nice day anyway. There's a park we pass everytime we drive to the gym and we've been really looking for a nice day to see what was there. So, we had a normal morning (I did sleep in a bit as I didn't fall asleep until well after 4 AM), but once I got going, it was OK. We had cars washed, pciked up drycleaning, had lunch and then went to the park. It's a beautiful park with a paved 2.4 mile trail along a pretty lake. There were loads of runners (Rod's been looking for a safe place to run), biker's, and walkers. Then we went for coffee and headed to the gym for a good three hour workout. I'm not sure where I got the energy to complete such a strenuous workout, but I did. And Mara, I know exactly how you felt yesterday. I started sluggishly, got energy, energy wained, got it back. For me, it was most certainly a product of not getting a good nights rest, but sometimes, you use all the gas in your engine and it takes a few poopy times to get some energy back.

Then we went to that Sushi place we had heard so much about. Turns out it's owned by the same people who own the one close to where our new (maybe) condo would be. Only in my humble opinion, it was not nearly as good. It was OK, but we drove out of our way to get to this place and while the atmosphere was guite nice, it was not as good as the other Sushi places we enjoy more. So, while it was fun trying something new, we can write this one off our list of must go to's. And LOL Mara, we've been doing the Sushi thing for a long time now and just don't seem to lose our interest and enjoyment Sushi give us. We do eat in non-sushi places too, but for us, we enjoy Sushi the most.

So, why didn't I sleep last night?? I'm not even sure I want to write about this possibility. But there was a big shakeup at the company I worked for (the one I was laid off from after 15 years and the one that put us in the position of having to relocate to Raleigh and the one Charlie still works for - THAT COMPANY). So, one of the bosses I had a great relationship with IM's me on Friday out of the blue and tells me she feels it was a huge mistake to have laid me off and wanted to know if I would consider coming back. I mean........WHAT??? After all this, you all made a mistake?? Sorry. Just come on home. Well, it wouldn't be that simple. They would have to make me an offer. And I would have to accept. But, if they did, we could go home. I mean, we could back to our beautiful condo in Tampa, and this crappy temporary apartment would be a thing of the past. So, I said I would consider coming back and I'm afraid I'm actually a bit more excited about the possibility of going home and I just couldn't sleep last night. And of course I feel totally guilty for even considering such an opportunity. I'd also have to say goodbye to my new company and they've been really good to me and I do like them and my job. But, we can't continue living the way we're living and this would let us live again.

So, now I have to wait. And it's just as likely they won't make me an offer as they might. And I'm homesick and I miss my home in Florida. So I couldn't sleep. That's what happens to me. My mind won't shut down and I can't stop thinking, even if I take sleep aids or even drink a beer. My mind just goes on and on and it won't turn off. So, now you know what's up with us. I'll keep you posted with as Rod's Life Turns.

Hope you had a great Saturday. See you tomorrow.

wow Rod, what a bitter/sweet thing to have happen. I''ve been to raleigh and Tampa and If I had to choose where to live I''d choose Tampa too, i can see why you miss it so much and why you''d feel such a strong pull to go back home. fingerscrossed for you that a wonderful offer will come your way and you can feel confident to take it. maybe your condo hasn''t sold for a reason??

Happy sat. everyone...the weather was sunny here today but didn''t warm up over 50. I did manage my morning walk with Zoe and actually got hot with my winter coat on. Zoe looks forward to them as much as I do and gets so excited when she see''s me putting on my running shoe''s and just waits at our back door for me. this morning though she was no where to be found. I even unlocked the back door and she didn''t appear. I then went and jiggled her leash and collar and I heard a thud from upstairs (she must have jumped off one of my girls beds where she sleeps) and she ran downstairs. So anyway, we had a very nice long brisk walk. We had wholewheat pasta with a local italian restaurant''s saunce they now sell at our local produce store. Only 50 calories in the sauce and it has a kick so you can''t just drench the pasta. Hubby and I only had 1 serving which is HUGE for him. I even made the switch for my kids and they couldn''t tell the difference b/t the regular and the high fiber which is great. I figure i can get them used to the taste and flavors while they are little, they will be so much better off as teens and adults.

Lorelei: please give you hubby more congrads for me..that is just wonderful..

Wow, Rod, what a flattering compliment, but how unfortunate it took letting you go, and move your entire life, for them to figure it out. My thoughts are with you and Charlie through this roller coaster ride. Not so fun.

Thanks both of you. Roller coaster ride is a good description of our lives since Last September. And I''m so ready to get off the ride. As I type this, we''re watching the Travel Channel and The Ten Best Beaches in Florida. It just makes us even more homesick. Plus HGTV had House Hunters Florida all this week, which made us homesick. Then I got an email from the manager in our condo this week saying they had a coctail party and people were asking about us and they wanted us to know we''re missed. It''s just been a week full of something that keeps pointing Florida in our nose. Oh well, time will tell what happens. Either we''ll get to go back or we won''t, but I can''t obsess over it. I''m just tired of feeling so lost. And I just want to go home. Isn''t that sad???

Oh Rod, that's just CRAZY. (Crazy GOOD -- I think, but still crazy.) Keep us posted.

So tonight we went to a new restaurant. I had the hamachi and avacado salad, which was basically raw yellow tale and avacado mixed up with big chunks of sea salt. Oh, and the bread had big chunks of sea salt on to of it. And did I mention the butter had big chunks of sea salt embedded in it? I swear, I think I need to have my blood pressure checked after all that! For dinner I had the risotto appetizer, which was three golf ball sized balls of risotto held together with cheese and salt and deep fried.

Can I say we're never going there again?? And when I suffer my heart attack from all the salt the happy hubby already has specific instructions to send the hospital bills directly to the owner of the restaurant.

Anyway, tomorrow I hope to do an early hour on the treadmill, but depending on the timing of everything (translation: when I get out of bed, LOL!) I might have to do it after my open house and my client. But I WILL get to the gym!!!

Now, however, I'm going to look for some WATER and something else to eat becuase I'm STARVING.

Rod: Ah, home...wouldn''t it be nice to know where that is? We had continued discussions about Chicago this afternoon after spending about two hours on MLS looking at what we could have for about 1/2 of what our home would sell for. We both are so conflicted. Not so fun, I can totally relate.

DeeJay: So sorry you had such a crappy dining experience. Not so fun!

bee: Way to go on the weight loss!

We had a green salad and chicken and green chiles casserole for dinner, it was pretty darn good. I was eying the website for our meal out tomorrow night; I''m sure I''ll end up at about 2500 calories for the day and an average of about 1650 for the week, which is high for me, but worth it. I''m really looknig forward to a nice night out. I think we both need it.

Happy Saturday night all!
