lol kim sorry to hear about your spicy tamale pie but greg would probably love it, i accidentally put too much cayenne on his pizza tonite (lol) and he was like 'this is great'...haha. i am not a huge spicy lover though...just a taste is enough. but it does keep the metabolism higher i think i read? spicy that is.

kate sorry to hear about your month but at least you got workouts in, that's super positive! and congrats on the weight loss. basil, you always seem like you do so well with your eating...!!

rod sorry to hear that you aren't super happy at your job anymore, i think that the prospect of going back home has you sufficiently thinking about it enough to probably make you not quite so happy with your job anymore...mental stuff like that can really mess with us! anyway try to be zen about it...nothing is forever, whether you stay or leave back to FL.

dinner was yummy as usual...TJ pizzas..the chicken artichoke mushroom for me and the sausage cheese one with cornmeal crust for greg..as usual i cut them into 4's and give greg one of mine and take one of his...i took a smaller piece of his today..hehe...but man i just love that cornmeal crust!! and we split this yummy country garden salad from TJ's that had corn, sunflower seeds, peppers, lettuce, radishes and a no oil fat free tomato herb dressing.

hemmed and hawed over dessert...i ate part of a dulce de leche pudding cup but the petite vanilla scone is calling my name too so maybe greg and i will split one. the day will be about 1525 cals. and i walked 1.5 miles this late afternoon with portia...so i logged 3.5 miles today, whee.

Wow Bee - 21 lbs, go you!! That''s awesome

I weighed myself this morning at the gym since I can''t go tomorrow most likely, but I''m glad I did because I lost another 2 lbs! So that makes 16 lbs total, which I''m very pleased with
9.gif

I have to share too - I found a new kind of ice cream at the market the other day - its the slow-churned, but its no sugar added, so its even lower in cals (just 110 cals for a 1/2 a cup, which I have to say is actually a lot of ice cream!). I got the chocolate chip flavor and I''ve been having it with the vitamufin chocolate brownies or muffins for dessert - so so yummy!! Anyway, I definitely recommend it if you can find it at the market, so yummy and even fewer cals!

ambergretchen...okay here's a Q. how do you know what 1/2 a cup of ice cream is? it seems like all the ice cream portions are 1/2c and i am always like how do you know what 1/2c is? is it a small scoop? a medium scoop? do you measure? lol. i usually just eyeball but i always wonder how close i am. once i actually measured out 1c (packed into a measuring scoop) and it was a fair amount...but i love ice cream and was raised around 3-4 scoop bowl lovers...lol, so my portion ice cream sizes are skewed. anyway just curious if you have some way to tell 1/2c easily or if you just eyeball too. hehee.

so i went to share the petite vanilla scone with greg who usually just nibbles on desserts, but he chomped like 3/4 of it in a second!!! so i just had a taste of it. oh well. hehee.

oh and re: slow churned, i discovered yesterday that plain coffee dreyers slow churned is only 105 cals for 1/2c. so all the flavors apparently have a diff amount...most are 120-130 but i was like interesting, plain coffee is simpler i guess.

I haven’t gone to the gym today yet, but I’m going to go as soon as I’m done with this. Yesterday I went to the gym in the evening and did the treadmill. I did 1.5 hours. Burned 655 calories. I basically did 1 hour of slow jogging, and then 30 minutes of alternating between sprinting and walking. I did a total of 26 laps. Yes yes yes!

Went to Trader Joe’s when I went out to grab dinner. Got the 2% fage because they didn’t have the 0%. And also the shepards pie, also some sort of a salad, and the rosemary chicken with wild rice. Can I just say the fage is SO good?! YUM YUM YUM!!!! From now on I’m going to make sure I’ stocked with these things. And the best part about them is their so high in protein but low in calories.

Okay, I should probably get myself to the gym now before it gets too late..

I know my Hubby had calf issues which we solved with the right shoes, something to do with if you walk on the outside of your feet or inside ( supinate or overpronate - can''t remember which is which!) But the calf cramps he had were completely gone once he got these shoes, he walks on the outsides of his feet, so when I need my next pair I will get some of these too. Rod has some I think also, he will probably have more info.

Deco - WELL DONE on the weight loss, over 4 pounds is incredible!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome PG and FG

Thanks Bee and Ellen, it is a nice feeling to have a much smaller skirt!

Great job Kate and Basil!!

Sorry about the pie Kim!

Had a great workout last night, 1 hour and 730 cals, REALLY pushed it. I can feel it in my hips along the sides with the hands free on the ellip, so it will be interesting to see what happens after a month of handsfree!

OK I went to Starbucks this morning and since it was warm out I thought, oh good, I'll get iced tea instead of cofee and safe the 85 cals I would normaly get with the milk. But I just went on the Starbucks website and they said that a venti passionfruit iced tea is 120 cals. That's for the sweetened and I got it unsweetened and added splenda, so do you think there are still calories in it or is that for the sweetened version? Argh--stealth calories everywhere just seem to creep up on me!!!

So I finally made an admission to myself today: These pants gotta go. The pants I've been wearing are a 12 petite (how scary is that--I'm only 5 feet tall!) but the next size down that I have in my close are a bunch of 8s for some reason (and I'm not *quite* there yet). I think I refused to acknowledge that I wasn't an 8 any more until it was to late and then I jumped up to to a 12?? Regardless, the two pairs that I wore over the weekend were held on with safety pins, and the ones that I have on today are some serious baggy butt. After my inspection this afternoon I am going to stop at J Jill and Talbots and see if they have anthing to hold me over for a little while until I get to the 8s. I hate to spend $ on "hold over" pants but I can't go on like this, LOL!

The only good news is that it took so long to get warm here that even though my current jeans don't fit any more I bet my next sized down ones (which are ankle length) do finally fit again. Hmmm... have to dig those out tonight and see.

This time change has totally thrown me off. The last two mornings I've had to DRAG myself out of bed. And last night when I got done writing the contract with my client I got in the car and the clock said 8:24 and I though, oh the HH must not have changed the clock, it's really only 7:24--but he did change it. It really was 8:24. Geez.

I was right at 1200 cals yesterday until I decided to have the very last of the leftovers from Sunday night. There really wasn't very much there but I honestly didn't need to have eaten them. They were just so good that the idea was appealing to me...

Congrats Bee, Deco and Amber -- that's awesome!

Hello Phoenix and FG!

Rod, don't worry, we all go through these speedbumps on the highway of life. I think that the possibility of going back to Florida is probably contributing to the situation, but hang in there as best you can.

Kim, sorry about the disappointing tamale experience.

Way to go, Maise!

Ah the pie! Stupid me. I am actually a spice lover, Mara, so that it tasted bad to me means it must have been pretty bad.

Today is a super busy day, I sub until 4 and we have play tickets for 7 pm. Dinner is at 5:30 at a restaurant in the park where the theatre is. Neither of us has ever been there so it will be a new food adventure. It''s a Mexican/Italian fusion place. The menu looks good.

Have a fab day everyone.

Dee you must get some holdover trousers, that way you can really SEE what you have achieved, nothing like new duds for doing that!

I know, I know... but I''ll be so sad to have to give up relatively new pants when I get down to my next smaller size. Oh well, the price we gotta pay, right?

BTW, how''s your poor toe doing?

Heels on Friday night??? Holy cow... My advice is to drink a lot... Hopefully it won't hurt as much by then.

If it makes you feel any better The Demon broke the happy hubby's finger last weekend and half of his hand is all swolen and purplish, so you're not alone.

Sorry it''s still sore. Are you taking something (Ibuprofenish) to help with the pain and lower the swelling?

Oh it''s so stupid... They were out for a W-A-L-K and one of the other dogs in our complex that The Demon most likes to bark at came out. The Demon cut across right in front of the happy hubby and he tripped on the leash and fell down. The worst part is he tried grabbing the fire hydrant to catch himself and his fingers got all bent back, and his pinky finger is broken. It really looks grim. And he types using all of his fingers (he''s not a "hunt ''n'' pecker") so this has been very annoying for him!

I am taking Tylenol to try to ease the pain etc, it is getting really annoying now!

Dee - ouch - poor HH, he must be suffering...! The thought of the bent back fingers makes my tum lurch!

Okay .. you guys have probably done this but: today I *discovered* a new way to Fage.

1/2 cup 2% Fage + 1 tbsp Hershey''s Special Dark Syrup + 1/2 a sliced banana
18.gif
. I *ALSO* discovered that Hershey''s Special Dark Syrup is only 5 calories more per tbsp than the SUGAR FREE or the LITE syrups (50 vs 45)! We always have the Dark around here ''cause DH loves it but now I love it TOO -- no need to get another syrup either!

Off to catch up on the thread ...

Deco - I forgot to say congratulations to you too! That's fantastic - 4 lbs is quite a bit!
36.gif

Mara - I measured 1/2 cup a couple of times (let the ice cream sit out to soften a little bit, then spooned it out into a 1/2 cup measuring cup, then I put it into one of the bowls I usually used and saw how much it looked like in the bowl (and also next to a vitamuffin brownie for comparison
31.gif
31.gif
27.gif
). Seriously though, having that visual pretty much did it for me. If I start to feel unsure I go back and measure again, but I find after measuring it a few times I have a pretty good sense - I'm a very visual learner, so I'm guessing that helps. But the trick about the bowls also really helps - I also know what 1 cup of whole grain spiral pasta (DH's favorite shape) looks like in a dinner bowl, and so forth. And I figure as long as my weight is going where I want it to, at a reasonable rate, I'm probably estimating with reasonable accuracy or even if I'm not it doesn't really matter LOL! I bet the ice cream portion size thing is partly what you're used to as well. My family has all kinds of weird pathology about food, but everyone always made it a kind of "contest" to see who could eat the smallest desserts, so we always got smalls or even kiddy cones when we went out for ice cream, so I'm used to pretty small portions.

I will totally have to try that coffee slow-churned - I LOVE coffee ice cream, and 105 cals for 1/2 cup is fantastic. Question though - if you eat it at night, does it keep you up? I'm really sensitive to caffeine, and even though I really love coffee ice cream and other coffee-flavored desserts, I've always worried about that. Does anyone know?

Lorelei - I forgot to congratulate you on the smaller skirt size too, that's fantastic!

DJ - definitely go get those holdover pants - I went shopping yesterday with DH and got just a dress and a couple of shirts (desperately needed the shirts for a presentation last night), and getting to see how different you look in clothes that fit right is such a huge reward - don't think of it as wasting money, think of it as giving yourself a reward for having achieved so much

Hey everyone!
Well I was gone for a week and man did it take me a long time to read last week''s WWT. Lots of posts but it was motivating and worth the time. Last week I had to take my mom to a specialist about 6 hours away. I was really good about eating until the end of the trip. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton and they had the most amazing sandwiches. The one I had was slow roasted, marinated portobello sandwich but I can''t stand mushrooms so I at it without. It was on a yummy 7 grain roll and it had creamy goat cheese, carmalized onion, roasted tomatoes, and spring green on it. Seriously amazing because all the ingredients were so good. I had it 2 nights in a row. I also had their tomato, onion, and goat cheese omelet for 2 breakfasts. Did I say I love goat cheese??

The worst thing I did was when I got home from this long trip I had pizza with my fiance. It was a total stress eating situation and I had more than I should have
15.gif
. Plus I had gotten this weird rash on the back of my leg so I was only able to work out 2 times last week but I did do a lot of walking.

I am now back on track and back on the elliptical. Plus I went to TJs and WF and got all my yummy, healthy foods. I could spend hours in those stores and it was fun to see all the products suggested here. I started taking Airborne and I really like it. It tastes good!

Now on to my question. I try to go on the elliptical 5-6 times a week but I also want to be able to get some ICUs while I am watching TV. I got to 5lb weights to work on toning my arms but I also got a little mini stair stepper. Do you think this is a good idea? I really want to have lean things and legs, like Mara''s. I don''t like the bulky, muscly look that a lot of "exercise women" have. What do you guys think- good way to burn calories and tone legs or good way to get huge muscle-bound things? I tried to post a pic but I can''t get it to work. It is basically a little stair master with no arm things.

indecisive, honestly, do cardio if you want to be lean. of course you will have to do a lot of cardio, hehe, i have been doing it since, last june i think or may...and it took me this long to get my body to where i really want it to be (it was closer as of jan of this year but it''s still been changing since then til now)...and i do a ton of cardio and long walks. my legs have leaned out even more in the last month or so, i notice it especially in my jeans. i think the stair stepper thing as fine, i don''t think it will give you HUGE bulky legs as long as you just mix it up with other things too like walking on the treadmill (great for leaning out the bottom half) and ellip, etc.

DJ congrats on finally deciding to get some pants woman! i can''t stand baggy butt, hehee.

why does everyone keep congratulating maisie? i went back and looked but i didn''t see her post, did i miss something? hhehe.

amber, i don''t really have a coffee/caffeine sensitivity at night, aka if we go out to dinner i get a decaf coffee but if i got a regular i''d be fine too. not that much keeps me from sleeping. but i am not sure how much caffeine is in the ice creams? maybe try googling it.

deco, nice find on the syrup, but my hershey''s sugar free is only 15 cals...so you must be talking about a lite version or something. i have the regular too which i think is like 100 cals for 2 tbls, but mine is 15 cals for 2 tbls.

but yeah in general, how wonderful is the fage for mixin'' and matchin''?!?! i love thinking about other ideas for it. hehe.

DJ re the tea...i imagine the sweeteners in the tea adds a fair amount. when i get green tea they always ask me if i want it sweetened...i figure for unsweetened it''s like 30-40 cals? but i really have no idea. i just add the cals in to be safe. but if i watch them literally brew tea with hot water and add nothing else, it''s like 10 cals. also so sorry about HH''s finger, owie!! gotta love those pulling animals..P may be small but sometimes she can yank..i often wonder how anyone does it with a big dog!!

miss Lorelei, take care of that toe, are you sure you didn''t break it or something? owie!

breakfast today was the multigrain waffles w/strawberries and sugar free syrup again, mmmm. i am in love with this breakfast and the strawberries are so ripe right now. part of what''s fun being home now is that i can eat and structure my day however i want, but on the flip side we have so many good things to eat in the house i have to be sure i don''t get too crazy, lol. it''s a good exercise in self-control i suppose!!
5.gif
oh and don''t hate me but i actually managed to get tan yesterday on the patio, it was so warm! today is supposed to be the same so i figure might as well go out there and read some more...my legs need some more color, hehe. this week is going to be in high 70''s low 80''s all week but we might have rain next week so i figure now is the time.

have a wonderful day everyone!!

Hello!

Sorry for missing yesterday! I had to catch up on this thread AND the end of last weeks! So much reading! Mara, it made me chuckle that you discussed ICUs with Greg on your night out and made him walk. Hehehe...

Monarch, congrats on your three weeks, that is awesome!

I''m struggling with being good on weekends. Weekdays I am pretty good, but I do about 1550 cals on average and don''t want to take that down too much. Maybe I have to, if my weekends are going to be in the 2000 cal range! Last week I had a great exercise week, and will try to match this week.

Yesterday was pilates, but I didn''t get my ICU workout in. It was one of those rare days where I felt sluggish even AFTER the workout. My legs felt like lead. Today I''ll go skating and we are bowling later tonight so there are some ICUs.

Fage for breakfast....honey and 1/2 banana in it..yum! Deco, the syrup and bananas sound fab, as does Mara''s low sugar jam, splenda and granola! It could practically be a topic..."What way will you Fage today?" I just realized not long ago that it''s pronounced Fa-yeh (it says it on the container). I mentally pronouced it "fa-jay".

Have a great day everyone!!

Lunch is horitaki salad and soup!

LOL TG well i pronounce it ''fayje'' even though I know it''s wrong. I''m like who will REALLY know...except for a Greek person probably. lol. i love the idea of everyone saying how they ''fayje'' today...hehe. it''s fun to have new suggestions!!

regarding eating and losing weight..i was talking about this with my friend last nite. she is trying to lose her last 4 lbs and said ''if i can just get my cals down to 1200 a day i think i can do it'' and i was like ''woah wait that''s so low!''....she said she is working out and burning like 2500-2700 cals a week. i said well you probably need to be eating MORE rather than less, woman!

this is what i have found works for ME. when i eat about 1500 cals per day mon-thurs...and then bump it up to 2200ish for friday and saturday, and then back down to 1500 for sunday (because we cook at home typically that night)...and i burn ~2500 cals a week...i end up losing about a pound a week. so like i was telling her, if you are burning a ton of cals, make sure to eat enough. so i would imagine for you...you are burning more cals now that you are doing ICU''s and walking more right? 1500 a day shouldn''t be too much. esp if it''s the right type of things aka fuel for body. when i eat more like 1650 a day and bump it up to 2400ish for fri and sat then back down for sunday, i end up maintaining. but honestly that''s too many cals for me. so i am doing what feels right and letting my body do what feels right.

just figured i''d throw that out there...because sometimes i see people eating like really low amounts of cals and for me if i work out 5x a week and i eat less than 1400 a day...i feel woozy and not quite right. so i try to keep my body feeling good and not tired. i know everyone is diff but that is what worked for me. hope it helps somehow!!

going to eat some high-fiber corn bran with banana for lunch, then hit up the gym for an hour and a half...take my time doing my workout since i have it!! then i''ll come home, shower and change and go get a mani-pedi!! which i really need lol. then i might hit up this outdoor mall and do a little wandering around. i am on the hunt for the right jean jacket too so let''s see if i get lucky.

hope everyone has a great afternoon!!!

Welcome PHOENIX GIRL & FIREGODDESS!!

KIMH - did you spike the tamale pie on purpose to burn off more calories - literally!
3.gif

ROD -- hope you get some news on the new/old job soon!

LORELEI - healing toe vibes! Three words I''ve never typed together before ...

I tried those 100 cal cupcake packs and they are COMICAL. As in ... if you were to ever offer someone a "cupcake" and they said "sure" and you handed them one of those teensy little thumbnail-sized cakes -- they would burst out laughing and look around for the PUNK''D cameras.

Oh wow, this thread is hard to keep up with!

Bee and AmberGretchen, yeay! DeeJay, smaller pants are so exciting! About the tea, I wouldn''t think that unsweetened tea has much of any calories. At least, I never count my tea as any calories so I hope it doesn''t have much.

Lorelei, sorry about your toe. Is the toenail blackened? If there''s a bruise underneath the toenail it may be causing pressure and pain.

Indecisive, I hope your mom is OK. No worries about one bad night! I wouldn''t think that a stairstepper would really bulk you up, but I think it depends on your physique in the first place. Some women put on muscle more easily than others, so it probably depends on that more than the specific exercise.

Anyway, I did a pretty hard workout today with my Spinervals tapes. 55 minutes of "Suffer-o-rama", for 14 miles worth.

Breakfast was toast and PB, and tea. Lunch was 1/2 turkey on rye with tomatoes, pickles and mustard, salad with feta and FF Italian. And some fresh fruit salad. Snacks were 0% Fage (I always pronounce it to rhyme with cage, even though I know it''s not correct), and a single serve bag of soy crisps. Dinner will be leftover turkey chili, leftover roasted squash, and a big salad. That takes me to about 1450, and I''ll probably have a snack or dessert later on.

). Who knows how successful I''ll be b/c nashville is just so behind when it comes to the health concious world but hopefully Wild Oats will have it. Ya''ll have me intriqued when even our newest members (deco) are already on board with it.

so on a fage hunt tomorrow I will go..

it is so excited to read all the weight loss stories here and so much more motivated when it''s people you *know*.

still didn''t make it to the gym for and actual workout but did get a long walk/run in with Zoe this morning and keeping on with the calorie counting. even though the scale is ok for me, my dress pants don''t hang like I want so I''m excited to see my measurements get back to where I want them. after our trip next week I will have better control of my schedule and be able be more diciplined in getting in a good gym workout every day!!

Can''t wait for Idol tonight along with a pudding snack

KATEBAR ... spot reducing thighs? You must share your secrets! Hope your bum is better now ...
Alas decodelighted I have not uncovered the secret of spot reduction. My thighs are not my problem I carry weight on my middle. But it is true you lose weight first from the last place you put it on and that is my thighs. Good luck to everyone injured or sick lets keep the good work and good thoughts flowing people

lol deco re the cupcakes, solution to the punk'd reaction? just don't offer anyone a cupcake!! i mean come on, 3 itty bitty ones? they are all MINE babydoll. mine.

an hour plus at the gym to the tune of 575 cals...went to the market and YIPPEEE...SUCCESS!!!!! i think i mentioned these before but i swore that i saw them...dreyers slow-churned ice cream chocolate crunch bars with cookies n'cream slow churned inside. none of that ole boring vanilla. 150 cals. YUM. i had to have 2 people help me find it since they were hiding them in the back (maybe the employees realized the gold mine they could make selling them on ebay, sugar free peeps anyone?!) but success was mine! i am jazzed. i love ice cream crunch bars but am not a fan of regular vanilla, love flavored ice creams inside. plus we all know slow-churned is the best. so now this presents a dilemma for dessert tonite. i had a big vitalicious brownie with ice cream and whipped/fudge goodness on the schedule, all 220 cals of it...but now i am like HMMM ice cream bar instead? or skip dinner entirely and eat both, lol. nah..just kidding.

random fitness note. i read at the gym that walking is better for your upper legs and butt than running, apparently because when you walk you have some sort of wider back leg kick out than running...and it ends up working your butt and i believe upper thighs more. so that's why my butt suddenly got kind of small hmm? lol. so for those trying to 'spot lose' on the bootie, try more walking.

now i am relaxing at home for a few minutes with a 30 cal wheat rice cake dipped into TJ's spicy and garlic hummus, yum. protein. then heading off to get a mani-pedi...and either hit the outside mall or just walk around downtown for a while, we'll see. i may be feeling lazy. hope everyone is having a great tuesday.

oh ETA that i forgot to mention this. had my body fat checked and the trainer was telling me that as women age, it's way less desirable to have super low body fat. he also said that if it's too low aka 16-17 that you might have problems getting pregnant and having kids? kinda interesting. i don't know too much about desirable BF levels but he was saying mentally we condition ourselves to think fat is bad but in reality our bodies need a fair amount of it (women moreso) to function well. he said fat holds up our skeletons! hehee. anyway just thought i would throw that out there. mine is about 19 so i'm happy as long as it doesn't get below 18.5ish. i love when they are like 'oh for your age...'...i always feel really old and hello i am only 32! he said for my age that the acceptable range would be like 20-26 but not above 26. so i guess i am kinda low but he said it was pretty much fine. anyway kinda interesting.
