I'm debating between using diamonds vs white sapphires-- what are your thoughts, wise PSers???

That is actually a bracelet...it would end up being quite a wide band if you end going that route. Do you plan to wear it with an e-ring? I'm not sure I have seen a similar design anywhere so it may have to be custom made but someone else may have seen it elsewhere.

You could maybe have a band made inspired by the bracelet... it would be wide and possibly tall, so I don't think I'd do an eternity just for the sake of comfort and sizing. It would also look great on its own!

Oops. Thanks for letting me know that that is a BRACELET!

I would like to wear the wedding band on its own, on my right hand. In Bosnia (where my parents are from) wedding bands are worn on right hands, so I would like something substantial enough to stand out on its own, while continuing to wear my engagement ring on my left hand.

Just a five stone with 30 pointers would be fine as a standalone RHR.

I hope you have a large budget though.

If you are looking for something super blingy though, this is a band I had made. And that sucker would stop traffic:






Again not cheap. Those are five 30 pointers and 8 ten pointers. And the setting is custom. But if you want something that is eye catching and bling-tastic. I highly recommend it.

It would probably cost about 7,000 with todays prices.

Gypsy, I can't help but smile when I see your kitty profile picture pop up.

Your ring is lovely, but I can't justify spending $7-11k for the WB, as it would come directly out of our wedding budget. I'm thinking under $2k actually.

This is why I mentioned that I am considering using sapphire stones instead. I know sapphires don't sparkle the same way as diamonds, but I think sapphires are lovely in their own way. I'm not sure why, but I'm not a big fan of the Pearlmans ring, although it is similar... Seems kind of thick and.... I don't know. I was hoping for something a little more delicate than that Pearlmans ring. Maybe it is the different angles, but the photo I posted seemed to have a more oval shape....

I'm happy it makes you smile! How about we focus on something lovely for you at 2K.

As for sapphires. White sapphires will show a distinct ... well lack of sparkle in a setting with pave around it. the refractive index of the two are two different and you will not be happy with white sapphires as center stone surrounded by diamond pave. But... David Klass could make you an eternity band with that type of design with white sapphire centers on budget. If you chose to go that route.

My advice is... if you are going for a gemstone center stone... go for a colored stones. Yellow sapphires, blue ones. Or orange or green garnets or tourmalines of any color, or spinels.

If you want a white center stone for your wedding band, synthetics are what I'd recommend. You can get lovely ones from Wink. And then you could get a pave setting and be in budget.

I HIGHLY recommend a pre-owned piece. My own wedding band is a pre-owned ring. It was originally $2700 and I got for $500 and even though my husband wanted me to "buy new" I overrode him and am so happy I did. I got a much better value, it was new to me (and all polished and looking great), and exactly what I wanted. With your budget, new isn't going to get you much in the "large" look, but pre-owned, you will be able to get something really nice (see below).

Also you'd be much better off in your budget to go for a half eternity, which gives you larger diamond where you want them (at the top) and nothing to damage on the bottom. You also should get your Right hand sized. And make sure they use the thick ring sizer as you want something substantial, and that means that you will have to be sized up for fit.

Overbudget and a size 5 so I don't know if it would work for you but:

If you are willing to be flexible and go with a pre-owned piece you can get something REALLY lovely for yourself. And it will be new to you. And you can imprint it with all your own memories. I adore my band. It's my wedding band. And I the fact that I got a great deal on it makes it even more loveable to me.

Thanks for posting so many options, Gypsy. I have been dealing with an awful lot of teeth problems (just had a root canal performed and will soon need my wisdom teeth removed ). This was a much-needed distraction today!

I am not opposed to a pre-owned piece. I see lots of lovely alternatives here! My ER is a 4.5, so I will stop by a shop and get a proper sizing for my right hand. Once I get some free time, I'll spend some time in a shop trying on different styles to see what looks good on my hand.
