hello everyone, I upgraded my ering and need a new band. i have been looking for months and at this point feeling discouraged. my new ring is an antique old mine cluster with 18k band and silver prongs. my old ring is a white gold bypass ring and they cant be warn together. i would love to find a patterned 18k gold band in my size. (7,71/4, 71/5). i have also been looking for an old cut diamond band. I'm also open to emeralds or garnets but feel maybe that would get tired and i should stick with classic looks. i have also looked at curved bands but dont know if they would fit around my cluster nicely(how do you size the curve?) i have never had to find a band for a ring any advice would be welcome. thank you

What a pretty ring! Maybe just a thin, plain 18k gold band? Something understated?

Thank you @MamaBear . I got my Ering sized today. My old ring was a 6.5. I wore it for 17 years and never realized how small it was getting. I got sizing rings and thought 7 to 7.5 size for new ring. The lady at the store said to size to 8 because my hands are cold. It feels huge! It moves all over my finger. My finger is slightly indented from old ring and she said that will go away. But I haven't wearn the old ring in two months. Should I also get a 8 in the band or go with a more secure 7.5. I won't be taking off the band like I will the ering. Should I get sizing beads in the ering or wait till summer?

I would probably go with an 8 as well. Depending on the widths it might tighten up a lot! And I would wait until you see how it feels with a band. If it's too loose with both then I would do the sizing bumps and see how it goes over the summer. I am wearing a too loose ring myself atm. But my indent is the only thing holding it on when I wear it alone lmao.

You might want to check out Jewels by grace. She has a great website with lots of ideas. Also, check out Victor Canera’s website. You can also send Victor a picture and he can make a suggestion. I also think both would make you whatever you wanted.

I would love to find an old 18k yellow gold band with a design on it but all the ones I have found are the wrong size or 14k. Now I'm looking for a different size so the search is starting over.

For 18k, try SingleStone.

Honestly I would look on Etsy or EBay, tons of vintage bands there. The problem of course is wearing a band with a cluster doesn’t work so well if the band is straight. One thing about curved bands is they do shift? I had one and it drove me crazy so I sold it.

Have to say I love your cluster, gorgeous stones and such great presence on your hand.

You could try an open band, let me find an example brb.

Something like this:

There are all kinds of styles and even if they don’t offer 18k, you could always ask. Search “open diamond band”.

If you find one you like I’m sure you could message to seller to find out how wide the opening is for an open band ring then have a jeweler measure your cluster across or you can do it with calipers. Likewise if something is listed for 14k or not the right size you can almost always order it in a higher karat or different size for an increased cost,

Again, this is just a suggestion, you may find a band design you like better. Just keep in mind a straight band against a cluster will take up a lot of room on the finger.

You could actually go in between and get a 2.2 band made - that felt like such a nice size to me - 2mm seems thin to wear solo IMO

I just went to a local small jewelry shop. The guy without my permission acid tested the top silver prongs of my ring. Yesterday a had it ultrasonic cleaned and it was spotless. Now there is a black tarnish mark on the top! I think its tarnish. Wtf. What should I do? 20210114_163153.jpg

Not an answer to your acid testing problem (but how rude and careless of the shop owner to do that!!)
But here are some band options in the patterned straight variety. Not all vintage sorry

https://etsy.me/2JB6S1X new bands beautifully made. A couple of PSers have one of these designs from memory.
https://etsy.me/2u6WYQu I have a lovely YG floral NOS band from here. Many of the bands are NOS and in a wide variety of sizes.
https://etsy.me/2HDfUuG a big selection of vintage bands.
https://etsy.me/3qnLumh size 8 3/4 but sizeable?
https://etsy.me/33vCMtJ size 8ish but WG
https://etsy.me/2HnAMuZ size 7 1/2 but maybe too wide?
I did wonder if a chevron band might sit better with your cluster? Possibly a bit odd worn alone but an option?

I have decided to buy a temporary gold band from eweddingrings.com to wear until i can find a vintage patterned band that I like. My question is a present they have a promo of 15% off. if i wait a week or two will the sales get better for valentine's day?
