Ok, so my girlfriend and I are looking to get engaged soon. I am having a jeweler replicate the Tiffany Novo ring for my lady (which is turning into a nightmare). I purchased a diamond from Abazias, which I was happy with when I looked at it. However, my jeweler refuses to mount it, and also started bad mouthing everything he could about it. the worst thing about the diamond is the girdle is a little thick. Other than that, I don''t see anything wrong with it. the jeweler says it''s a bad cut becuase the girdle is too thick, and that the depth is WAY too deep and it looks like a 1.25 ct, instead of the 1.84 that it is.

Here are the specs...

- EGL Cert.
- 1.84 ct
- Radiant cut
- 6.71 - 6.21 x 4.64 mm
- depth: 74.8%
- table width: 65%
- pavilian depth: 54%
- girdle: thick, polished
- polish: good
- symetry: good
- clarity: Vs2
- Grain: Nil
- Color: I (it looks white there''s not hint of yellow at all)
- Flour: none

Price paid: $6,000

This seems like a good deal, but maybe somebody else can advise me. I don''t want the best of the best, but I do want a decent stone at a nice size. Can somebody reassure me to keep it, or advise to return it? Seriously, i need some honest opinions here!!!

Thanks guys!!!

For a close to 2ct stone, it is facing up pretty small.

I really can''t tell you anything else about those specs, because I don''t know much about radiants.... but I don''t think it''s the girdle that''s making it face up small. If it was rated "extremely thick" then maybe...

Well, the good news is that your 1.84 is facing up more like a 1.5 carat than a 1.25. The bad news is that it''s facing up like a 1.5 carat.

It''s deep. Your jeweler is right that it''s not facing up like a 1.84. To compare to a different EGL stone at Abaziaz, the if you currently Pricescope Your Diamond above with similar parameters, you''ll find an I, VS2, 1.83 carats at Abaziaz and it measures 8.18 by 6.50.

The downside is that it costs $6895, not $6000. Thus, it''s probably fair to say that the reason the stone of similar weight which you purchased was discounted because the cut made it face up small for its size. What to do next (to lay out more money or not) is up to you. Good luck; I know it''s not an easy decision.

It is facing up absolutely teeeeeeeny for it''s size. That, plus the fact that it''s an EGL and thus might not really be an I color or VS2 clarity, and yes I would say unfortunately you overpaid. Just to compare, run a search for radiants on a place like bluenile and see what you come up with. They have a ton of them in that size range, that face up SO much bigger, have GIA certs, etc. and are cheaper than your stone was...

Is it an option to return it?

Yes I can return it, I have 10 days to do so with Abazias. Maybe someone can help me... I''m looking for a decent stone 1.5 ct and higher for around $6,000. It has to be eye clean and not look yellow. I wont be looking at it with a microscope, so as long as it is these things with the naked eye i''m happy. Anybody have any suggestions on this??? I''d prefer to stay with abazias, but i''m open to other venders.

hi! i''m by no means an expert on radiants, but this one doesnt sound bad on paper compared to the one you currently have... will put the abazias link since that''s where you bought from but it''s sold by other vendors (like Mark at ERD who wld be able to look at it and tell you honestly if it''s a good stone before you purchase it):
