Just purchased this diamond (approx $7600) and before this last week where i spent hours researching, I had zero knowledge on diamonds period. I've included the AGS certificate as well as a file.

. It's going in a 14k Yellow Gold Setting: https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...pave-crown-diamond-engagement-ring-item-53091

Any feedback at all would be appreciated. I just ordered this morning so if general consensus is not good, i think I can change it out.

I was considering the below diamond but decided to shell out the 1200 more for the better color quality and the one i picked honestly seemed to have more brilliance/fire to it on the 360 JA view.

I don't know anything about princesses but I like the first one for these reasons:

Higher color and I would worry about the corners of a J showing yellow

More spread for same weight

No big inclusions on the table

Are you sure that your intended wants a princess cut? I don't know much about princess cuts, but AGS gave it Ideal cut grade, so that means that the performance is excellent, as far as princess cuts go! However, they do face-up much smaller than rounds, for example, because they are much deeper. The 1.5ct that you got measures 6.36mm x 6.13mm. In comparison, a 0.9ct round has an outer diameter of 6.2mm. They also show more color. However, if you know that your significant other wants a princess cut, then that is another story. Have you looked at WFs princess cuts? They have a very generous upgrade policy, if you even think that the diamond will be upgraded in the future.

My girl at first said she wanted the princess cut which I was extremely excited about because they are almost half the price it seems as round! Alas she said she changed her mind and wanted Round. Round seems to be more popular with the ladies

100 percent sure. We looked at several BM stores before we made the choice. She is an unusual one, hates white gold and hates round diamonds

Being a noob can you tell me what WF is?

WF= Whiteflash. Website: https://www.whiteflash.com/ They do have a showroom:
Whiteflash Inc. 2150 Town Square Place #330, Sugar Land, TX 77479. Also, you can online chat with their salespeople --I think 24x7..if not you can contact them with any questions regarding any of their diamonds, rings, jewelry.

Crazie4Cuts, any opinion on my purchases? I'm guessing from your avatar you're more into round cuts but any opinion would be greatly appreciated. Seems like most people here have more experience with round cuts rather than princess.

The stone looks lovely. The setting is stunning - I really really like that. When will it arrive so you can post a picture of the completed ring? As you'll see I'm also a princess cut fan!

Thanks Rivendell! I'm excited to see it. Supposed to ship 6/5 so hopefully by 6/6. I will definitely come back and post a picture.

i think it's a great choice! AGS0 so you know it will sparkle. And i definitely think you made the right choice going with the I color vs the J. I think the J is a little too tinted, princess cuts tend to really show color in their points. Also, the J is a 2 chevron cut and the I, 3 chevron so that's part of the difference you may be seeing in the type of sparkle.

Beautiful setting too! Be aware that she won't want to put a diamond band right up against the e-ring with the diamonds on the gallery. If you do a diamond band, be sure to get a thin spacer.

Can you please elaborate on this some more? I have ZERO idea what this mean! Would JamesAllen not do this automatically? As you can probably tell, i'm BRAND new to all of this.[/QUOTE]

OHHH i think you mean wedding band when we get married, yeah that's at least several years away, probably 3-4 hahaha, we plan on purchasing a house before we get to the marriage part.

Kudos for including your partner in the process so that she gets EXACTLY what she wants. Can't wait to see the final product

Thanks! All these positive comments are making me feel good about my choice and even more excited to see it. I'll def follow back and post a picture of the ring when it arrives!

AGS Ideal optics for light performance. Looks good to my eyes.

TXD- I'm not knowledgeable to make a decision on your princess cut.. I think you should get an ideal scope pic and an asset on the stone. Whiteflash has this on their princess 'a cut above' diamonds and you can see what I am referring too when you go on their website. Here's also some info on how to select a top performing princess cut diamond from BGD: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/news/tips-choosing-best-princess-cut-diamond/. I hope this helps, but I do agree that having a AGS cert is best for princess cut diamonds. The AGS should also have the asset on the cert, so when you get the stone take a look at it and you will be able to determine optical performance of the stone you purchased. Another note regarding the petite pave setting you chosed. To protect the tips which are fragile and prone to chipping if you accidentally hit against something...usually the setting has a 'v' prong for protection at the corners. The value of your diamond will significantly drop with a chipped tip. So may I suggest an alternate setting such as BGD http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/e...-pave-princess-18k-yellow-gold-5513y18..comes in platinum and white gold as well...so see that at the corners there is a 'v' type of head to protect the stone. Maybe James Allen has a similar type of setting that you may want to consider....

Ok, the asset looks good!...

Very nice!! AGS0 will be bright!

after 2 small delays from JA finally got the ring this morning! I know a few asked for updates once i got it so here are a few pictures (as best as I can do while on the run this morning). Only slight concern is the band looks a lot thinner in person than on the website but i don't think it'll be an issue and if it is I'll deal with it then. I know that is the exact setting she loved on their website so i think it'll be A-OK.
Thanks for everyone's input! This site and it's people are fantastic!
