I hope someone can help me here...I have only been aware of this forum for a week or so but see such helpful people. This is my first post. My fiance and I went to the first of a couple of jewelry stores to look for a diamond engagement ring. They had three diamonds that were "vivida" cut. He said this is a new cut and showed me the diamonds...They really looked beautiful. Here is the one I liked:
Vivida Cut
1.22
F VS GIA Cert
Good symmetry and Good polish (which I wanted at least the Very Good, but this is what he had)
No floresence and no cutlet.
This cut is like a squarish step cut on the top of the diamond and an ideal cut beneath it? I looked through a scope and you good see hearts and arrows type design. I wanted a round ideal cut and he is going to show me some next week, but this really was a very clean and bright diamond. HAVE YOU EVER EVEN HEARD OF THIS CUT? When I go to the website, I just get a picture of the diamond.

It must be a very new cut.
The price of that diamond was $9,250.
Can anyone tell me if they have heard of this cut and if it is a good cut? It IS GIA cert. Thank you so much for any help.

far too little info

whaty website?
all the report data etc pleae

wghat scope did you see it thru?

Can you get ideal-scope or ASET photo''s?
3D .gem or Sarin files?

Very strange -- I tried several search engines and could not find anything with that name. There were several sites in other languages, but nothing in English when querying Vivida cut diamond. Perhaps it is a new cut used overseas? Or a marketing name to promote the diamond?

If you get pcitures, please post -- we love to see new things!

I am so out of what this is about....The jeweler who showed me the diamond is a very reputable one where we live that has been in business for years. He said that this is a new cut and it is from Israel. If you go to the vividacut.com web site, all you see is the cut or maybe I should say, the shape of the diamond. I got a pamplet on the Vivida but it tells me nothing...Only pictures of stars making the design of the diamond. The jeweler said this is a new cut and that it is just going on the market and just got a few in...He didn''t even have them out of the paper they were wrapped in and had to steam them first before he gave me the stone to see...I saw the one I liked under the 10X loop. He said the stone would normally sale for around $11,000. If it didn''t have the GIA cert, I wouldn''t have even looked at it, but it did....I saw the diamond through a device they use for the hearts and arrows and you could see the hearts outline to see the cut looked good. But there were 4 hearts instead of 8. He said the bottom of the cut was an ideal cut. He is going to get some more ideal round diamonds in this next week, and he is going to call me to come in and see them and I can ask more questions then. That really is all I know and when I google, I also get another language and nothing on the diamond.

Interesting ... looks like a "knock-off" off the Tiffany Lucida cut ... I found another version of this cut the other day ... called the Euphora cut -- through Geoffrey's Diamonds in the Bay Area of California.

ETA: Here is the link to the "Euphora" cut that is virtually the same thing -- to my eye.

vividacut.jpg

I have to add that it''s a VERY attractive cut ... I''ve been eyeing a Tiffany Lucida Pendant & considering whether to have one made with a similar cut stone (like the Euphora) -- larger for the same $ as the smaller Tiffany ones.

A comperable Tiffany stone of that size would be quite a bit more ... Round Brilliants of the same weight will probably appear larger to the eye than the Vividas but it really just depends on what you want.

It could be cool to get a "new cut" -- if it''s what you guys dig the most after looking. It''s best to realize thought that it may be mistaken for a Tiffany Lucida, a HOF "Dream" cut or the other new breed of like cut stones.

Bet it''s a knockout in person.

Thanks so much for replying and I am so new to this that I didn''t know it would look like a Tiffany''s. It is quite a beautiful stone. I had my mind set on an ideal round cut, but I was thinking if we purchased this stone, I would get have it put in a 3 stone ring with each side stone being a 1/3 diamond, F, VS2 also. What would you think of that? It is hard to tell with loose diamonds, but I think it would look great and have more "bling" I guess with the two stones on the side. Would the 1/3''s be too small? That would be exactly in our price range so any bigger sides would not be an option. I could get the diamond as a solatair and get the two sides on the wedding band.
Also, does anyone think I would be taking a risk by purchasing a new cut stone like that? I know some people don''t care for the "Leo" diamond being it is a different cut and don''t think it is worth it. At least that is from what I have heard...I think it looks pretty cool, but what do I know? I have tried to brush up on all the diamond info as to what makes a good stone. Anymore opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If the stone looks like the one in the picture, it will be beautiful and unique. And I like the idea you have for setting it. Must be a new cut. I went to a recent diamond show here in Atlanta and they had cuts I had never seen, but ooohhhh were they pretty!!!

I think the only problem you might have is if you decide to upgrade in the future. So many shapes come out with a bang and then fizzle away, and jewelrers don''t want the stone back because they won''t make a profit off of it. I''d only get a stone with a new cut if I was positive I wouldn''t want a larger/smaller diamond in the future.
Pretty stone though!
Have you checked out any square cushions or square hearts&Arrows stones?

That looks really nice...I never thought I''d see a half EC/half rb...interesting.

That''s kind of what I am afraid of as far as, fizzle away. I think I wouldn''t have a problem upgrading if I wanted to since this jewelry store is a family owned, very reputable, and service oriented store. I could just ask and that would let me know if I could upgrade in the future. I think I would be able to. I didn''t look at the cushion stones or the other square cuts, cause I don''t care for square cut stones, only the ideal cut round stones (of which he is getting some in for me to see),because I always felt that they had the most sparkle when combined with the other ingredients of quality clarity, color, etc. but this one really had a great sparkle to it. I guess another reason I like the round stone is that there is a standard for the cut as far as the table and depth and all that which makes it easier to know you are getting a good ring........... What do you think on the price of it? He said he was giving us a discount on the stone, that it would be around $11,000 without the discount, but was selling it to us for $9,250. The total of the 2 1/3rd sides in a 14K gold setting with the 1.22 Vivida stone would come to just under $12,000. Actually with tax to $11,250 which is funny cause our top budget is $12,000! My fiance said, do you think they can find something to add that last 50 bucks in so we can make sure to use all the money? HA!
22.gif

I''d ask about upgrading, see what their policy is. Don''t assume anything!!
2.gif
Looks like a beautiful cut!! Good luck!! And keep us posted on what you decide.

Well now that you mention it''s a family run shop I would actually be more nervous about future upgrades. I bought my first diamond ear studs from a local family run jeweler who promised he''s buy my earrings back if ever I wanted to trade up or even just sell them. Guess what? 10 years later, when I wanted to do that, he told me "sorry, business just isn''t that good right now and I cant do it." Needless to say I wont buy anything from him again anyway but my point is that I''d only trust a larger chain store to trade up because I think they''d have a stronger policy and would be around for years to come. Having said that, most good shops will take in a trade if you''re buying up. But who knows if this cut will hold its value since it''s quite unique.

Now that you mentioned chain stores. What does everyone think of them? I hear all these ads for Jared''s and we have one in the area, but then people say "mall" stores aren''t that great of a place to buy diamonds. And someone also said Jared''s doesn''t have stones with the GIA or AGS ratings. I haven''t had a chance yet to go there and was thinking of checking them out Monday after work. So that also brings me to the "Leo" diamond. So my question is this.....What do you think of the mall stores and what do you think of the "Leo" diamond. I don''t want to get more confused, I thought I had everything figured out till I saw the "Vivida" diamond. Maybe I should just forget the Vivida and the Leo for that matter, and just go with the Idealcut round like I was thinking originally. My sister has some Leo diamond earrings she loves them. Oh boy, I am getting more and more confused...HELP!

And thank you all for the responses.

Jared uses IGI to grade their diamonds...which I don''t think is as strict as GIA or AGS. I have a lot of jewelry from Jared, and I think the quality is okay. On the other hand, I don''t have a single piece that contains leo diamonds, so my stuff is probably very generic. I have a cocktail ring where if I look closely I can see how terrible the clarity is...but it was a cheap-o ring. The leo diamond definitely seems to be the cream of their crop and I agree that they are beautiful. The premium they charge for it though? Not so hot! But if you have the money and you like their diamonds I say go for it.
Also wanted to add: I have heard another vendor on here say that Jared is one of the "good guys" compared to other chain stores. So, that says something!

If you''re going to buy from a "maul" store you just have to go in there INFORMED. Take everything the sales people say with a grain of salt. A lot of them don''t even know the definition of cut. They get away with selling very expensive badly cut diamonds to a lot of people. Just make sure you are getting your money''s worth!

In one word about maul stores? Overpriced.

Thanks for the input. I guess no one on this board has seen or has a Vivida cut diamond? I can''t believe that even google doesn''t come up with anything. How new can it be? You would think there would be some hype or marketing, or something would come up. I guess as long as the stone has the quality I want, it should be ok. I can''t wait to see it again in a couple days along with some quality ideal cut or hearts and arrows cut diamonds that the jeweler is getting for me. Maybe then I can decide better then. But even if I like the Vivida better, with no info, I don''t know if I would get it.

There are Jared's that have AGS and GIA diamonds. Not that I recommend shopping there. Way overpriced.

yes they do...

Leo diamond is purdy too...

My Jareds does have GIA stones -- if you ask for them, then they go to the back to get them. I don''t believe they always keep them out in the regular diamond counter. and yes, some of the Leos are really pretty.

But are we saying that the Leo''s are overpriced then? Or the other GIA diamonds bought from there? Is the Leo woth the price they ask then? I know I am going off the subject here of the Vivida, but I''m not getting much info on that.

In my limited experience with Jareds, almost everything is overpriced for what it is. Especially their certed. diamonds which could be gotten online for much less.

I know nada about Jared''s other that there have been some awful customer service/integrity stories on this site and I''d never buy anything at this chain store.

Having said that, if you''re the sort of person that needs to see diamonds in person before you buy (as opposed to internet purchasing), then there are some decent stores out there. I''ve got a 5 stone 1.ctw plat & diamond band from Ben Bridge''s "Signature" diamond line and it is stunning. I always get compliments on it, even when I walk into a store like Graff

Then again, there are also great stand alone shops as well. You just have to look around, and ask around and see what your friends/family suggest, as well as folks here that might live in your area.

This has probably been discussed somewhere here before, but since I am looking originally at the round ideal cut diamond, for a 1 carat, what would the exact dimensions be? For the table, etc. I went to a jewelry store at lunchtime. I saw a gorgeous ring I liked with diamonds along the side, but it had a emerald cut stone in the setting...He is going to get in for me to see a round ideal cut, F color -VS2 GIA or AGS rated stone in the range of $8750. Is that good??? He didn''t tell me the dimensions of the stone or the florescence. Would an ideal cut for a one carat, always be the same? He didn''t tell me the polish or symmetry either, which I will have to ask when I see it. But with what he told me, can you help me out to know if that is a good price and what would the ideal cut be? Thanks again for anyones help.

I think his prices are too high from what I see.

Online stores: their prices will most likely be cheaper than B & Ms because B & Ms have a lot of overhead. They also may have better inventory.

On the other hand, if you decide to by online you have to be prepared to look at pavillion angles etc. (pretty easy with the cut advisor above) and pour over idealscopes to make sure. Because you''re buying without seeing.

The nice thing about a B & M store is you are able to actually see the diamonds, you have more confidence in picking a diamond that doesn''t have the perfect numbers etc. But you are paying extra for the benefit of being able to see and pick. People on the board have given about B & M stores:

1. Try and see if they''ll let you see the diamond outside, & not just in the light of the store

2. Since you''re seeing the diamond itself, the numbers aren''t as important. However, you may want to get the #s and go look them up first before purchasing just to make sure you have a clear head about the purchase. The important #s for rounds(Besides clarity etc.):
a. Table %, depth %, crown angle, pavillion angle. Enter into cut advisor, below 2 awesome, above 2 it''s not superideal by the #s, but if you love it then go for it!!
b. At least Very good in polish & symmetry (though this is more personal preference)
c. If its not graded by the GIA or AGS, keep in mind that other labs have looser standards and so take their color and clarity gradings w/ a grain of salt

3. If you do decide to get a round brilliant, they are everywhere. So don''t feel pressured to buy =). It may take another week, but you''ll find a great equivalent diamond again.

I have had a good experience with Shane Co. But you have to know what you want. For example if you are just browsing the diamonds they look like a really poor selection. If you tell them what you want they have a ton in the back that are higher in cut/clarity/color. They put out the others to appeal to more people, since part of their advertising is about having something for everyone no matter what the budget. But they had a beautiful 2ct F SI2 completely eyeclean (they thought it should be graded at VS2) for $15K. Their stock constantly changes and they can even go look for what you want. I think pricewise online is your best bet, but if you need to see it in person and are still deciding what you want then you need to be educated. I had a horrible experience with Kay''s Jewelers and I believe Jared''s is their homestore so I won''t do business with them. I found their craftmenship on the piece to be horrific! Someone mentioned Ben Bridge. A girl I work with has a 1 carat D SI2 from them and it''s really pretty. It''s a Ikuma, and she really likes it. I think a lot of places have their own signature pieces. I thought the one you posted was really pretty.

The jeweler I went to on Saturday that had the Vivida cut called today. He is getting some more diamonds for me to see and they will be in on Wednesday. He seems to have better prices than the one I saw today. First one he told me about is:

1.06
F VVS2
square radiant brilliant cut
AGS Ideal perfect
Excellent polish and symmetry (that''s all the info he has right now)
$7,500

The next one sounds great to me cause I favor the round brilliant diamonds.
But when I told him Saturday that I preferred an Ideal cut he misunderstood me to mean not necessarily GIA or AGS cause they don''t call them ideal? I probably told him wrong. Anyway here is the other diamond.

1 carat
F VS2
Ideal Plus
Excellent polish and symmetry
1 carat, it is a EGL/USA but......... I thought I heard on here that they don''t have as strict of a grading. If I like the color of it and all that, being it is an Ideal cut, and also excellent polish and excellent symmetry and no culet,
do you think that would be a good diamond??????
33.gif

You''re going to see the stone, so I wouldn''t worry about it being EGL, in the sense that if you are happy w/ the cut clarity & color that''s all that matters.

However, if you want our opinions on a stone, words like "excellent" and "ideal" don''t really mean much from EGL. We''d need the depth %, table %, crown angle, and pavillion angle to give a vague idea of performance. An Idealscope image or ASET image of the diamond would be able to tell us how good it is reflecting light.

Hope that helps.
