Hi, All!

It's been sometime since I've been on PS - a few years I think. I'm still trying to figure out this new format - sorry. I can't seem to get the seach feature to narrow down results, hence my post. So please excuse me, I'm sure there are threads out there covering this topic.

Okay, so back in 2008 I purchased a lovely 0.93 RB from James Allen. It's lovely and I'm very happy with the stone. However, my wedding anniversay is around the corner and I was entertaining the idea of an upgrade :naughty: So I revisited JA website to a slight disapointment in realizing their trade-up policy. BOOOO! So not happy with this. I'm regretting not going with Whiteflash now :nono: But I digress...

SO - I have a 0.93 with a halo. Looking at a 1.50 on JA's site. Will also add a halo. Do you think the visual difference would be significant? Let's say...$4300 worth of a difference (plus new halo)?

My diamond = 6.25 - 6.30 x 3.88
Possible diamond = 7.45 - 7.37 x 4.52

Any comparision shots out of a 1 ct vs 1.50?

THANKS!

I find the search option on PS2 a lot harder to navigate as well. I have friends with 1 carat RBs and some with 1.5 carats and the 1.5 definitely looks much bigger.

Here's a chart that might be useful:
http://www.reisnichols.com/diamond-size-chart.pdf

The difference is actually going to be a bit bigger than just the diamond dimensions because the halo will be bigger too -- a lot bigger because the halo depends on the circumference of the diamond. Including the halo, the area would be
3.14 * (radius + width of halo)^2

Let's take the larger dimension of each diamond as the diameter, and assume that your halo is very delicate (say 1mm wide). Then the areas are
0.93 RB: 3.14 * (6.30/2 + 1)^2 = 54.1 mm^2
1.50 RB: 3.14 * (7.45/2 + 1)^2 = 70.1 mm^2
So for a 1mm halo, the surface area increases by almost 30%. (With a 2 mm halo on both, about a 23% increase in surface area.)

I think you'd definitely be able to tell the increase in finger coverage. 30% bigger is a big jump, IMO!

Now that's breaking it down, Antelope! THANK YOU!!!!!

And thank you for the chart, LALOVE!

((skipping away happy now))

Adding: BTW, I have pretty small fingers - I wear a size 3 so a 30% increase will ROCK!! Here's my 0.93. w/halo

EEK - I'm excited now!!!!

THANK YOU, AGAIN PS MEMBERS!!

I love your current ring :) And it looks really REALLY big on your size 3 finger! A 1.5 with a halo is going to look huge! It will be great finger coverage- I'd definitely go for it!

IMO in the under 2 carat weights, a size jump is especially significant visually. Especially from .93 to 1.5cts. Well worth it I would think!

Well, the difference between .93 and 1.50 is .5.
I've attached a picture of the difference between a .6 and a 1ct, so .4ct. Your difference would be .1ct greater. So I've also attached a picture of the difference of .1ct

Hope this helps!

wakingdreams53- I think she was referring to the size difference as in mm... diamater.

Hi :D The difference will be HUGE and I CAN"T wait to see what you decide. Please keep us updated :D

Thank to all who replied! Your comments/pictures are much appreciated! I approached my husband last night about the upgrade and so far, all systems are go! Now I gotta make sure I find the right stone! I have a feeling this will be my last upgrade considering JA's ugrade policy, so I need to be sure I find the perfect diamond! I'll be sure to keep the boards posted! :appl:

JA should honour the old upgrade policy that was in place at the time of transaction. I don't know what it was, but just because JA changed their policy since you bought the stone, it doesn't mean the new policy applies to you. The new policy should only apply to people who are buying stones now.

You bought your diamond under certain contractual terms, which includes whatever favorable upgrade policy they had in 2008. Ask JA for their 2008 upgrade policy and hold them to it.

I just bought my stone from JA. The Sales Rep confirmed the upgrade and trade-in policies that exist currently will apply for me, regardless of whatever they change it to in the future.

I hope I've made sense.
