Hello!

We are currently searching for a diamond for an engagement ring. Our budget is about $5-8k, but we would prefer to stay on the lower end to put more money towards the wedding. I have been browsing some PS vendors and noticed I can get a great .9 carat diamond for around $5-6, but I can stretch my budget and go up to a 1.2 RB for around $7-8k. Is there that much of a visual difference between the sizes? I mean, obviously, one is bigger than the other, but how noticeable is it? $2k noticeable?
I am thinking of putting the diamond in a thin, 2mm pave set band for reference.

The stats of the individual stone will have a result in the stone''s look/size.. but if the stones are cut the exact same way and laying on a table in front of you, yes, you''d be able to tell a difference that one is larger.

Whether or not it''s worth the 2k difference is honestly a 100% personal call. Do you have two specific stones you''re looking at? Folks here would definitely be able to help you out.

Also...it sounds silly, but one of the things I''ve done in the past to figure out size is to take out a ruler, get the mm measurements of the stone, cut the shape out, and tape it to my finger. Sounds crazy, but it''s a really good way to figure out size if you can''t go check them out immediately IRL.

Depends on the finger size? I wear a 7 3/4 and it is a noticeable difference on me. I would rather the bigger if I could swing it. ( I have a 1.21)

Thanks--my ring size is a 7 and I think I need a bigger stone. Okay, maybe I just want a bigger stone.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn''t throwing money down the drain!

I''d like the bigger stone too

But only you can tell if that want is worth the extra $2000... would be for me if I could afford it!

Haha...I think everyone would like a BIGGER stone

Have you compared the cut quality yet? Because if the smaller stone has a better cut, it will bling more and appear bigger than a poorer cut but bigger stone and in that sense maybe the $2k wouldn''t be as worth it.

Here's a comparison thread. Almost halfway down is a pic of 2 princess and 2 round. The rounds are .90 and 1.07, to give you an idea. Remember too, the diameter depends on the cut, so if you go comparing in real life, make sure you're comparing well cut stones.

And they really do "shrink", so you might want to ga as big as you can.

If you can swing it I would go with the bigger stone. It seems like a pretty big difference from .9 to 1.2. There is a thread devoted to size comparison on here somewhere. Can you try on some different size ones at a B&M, just to get an idea?

I agree with Ellen you will want to go as big as you can.
I had a .75 and then went to a 1.20 and could tell the difference.

When FI and I were looking for a diamond we narrowed it down to two: 1.00 carats and 1.22 carats. We could definitely see the size difference between the two. However, we went against the grain and chose the 1.00 carat, but only because I''m super duper colour sensitive and having a D was more important to us than a bigger G. If you can afford it, I''d definitely go with the larger diamond all other things being equal and to your satisfaction. But, as others have posted only you know if the difference in size is worth the extra money. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I think it''s a noticeable difference!! I could dell the difference between my 1.11 and many 1.0 stones quite easily.
