Hi there,

I have some across my mothers old moonstone necklace.
I remember that the large middle stone that came out was around somewhere.
To be honest when I was young I couldn’t see what she saw in it and just kept it because it reminded of her. All I know is it’s old, super delicate and has no markings.
Do you think this is worth finding the missing moonstone and repairing it ? Or am I better just to scrap the necklace and try to seek off the moonstones?
I tried very hard to get photos - not easy! I will try in the daylight tomorrow. All the stones have a blue sheen - some more then others and a couple are completely clear.

If you had these what would you do with them?

She had little grape drop earrings too she wore to match but I don’t think they are old or high quality and (frustratingly enough) no markings either.
The biggest ones are 9x6 to give you an idea of size. The middle one would have been 15x10.
Just thinking it’s a waste sitting away in a box unloved.

OK, I am coming here from your Garnet bracelet post!
I love this necklace!!!
You could remove the missing one, and rearrange the drops in the front to make it wearable again! You will have to remove two drops to keep it symmetrical. So five drops instead of the original seven. Trim off the unused loops with wire cutters and file the area smooth. So easy to do. Then you will have a single left for a pendant!
I love it!

I think you could have a jeweler take off the empty bezel and add another dangle of some kind, maybe an amethyst, it would be a nice contrast and they are relatively inexpensive.

Maybe you could even use the existing bezel and have a gem (amethyst or otherwise) put in there.

Btw that is a gorgeous necklace :kiss2:

I also think it is gorgeous! But, would YOU wear it. If you think yes, in addition to the above suggestions I wonder if the two single stones on each end could be dangled from the center stone (so a 3 stone drop at center instead of 2 stone). Or, you could remove all the drops and make a bracelet. So many options available so play around with it a bit.

It’s beautiful. People like me look for pieces like your necklace, that need a bit of TLC and can be acquired for a fair and reasonable price. Why not research them on various sites like Etsy, eBay, etc, and make the decision to sell or keep after you see what else is out there? In any case, it would be a shame to alter such a gorgeous design. So pretty.

It is so pretty! Personally I love moonstones and have a similar necklace I love to wear. I would rearrange the drops and enjoy it but if you wouldn't wear it you could sell it.

I can’t see myself wearing this at all honestly.
I only change out my jewellery for special occasions (which are few and far between). So I wear very practical/hardy gold pieces.
I did come across a lovely head piece that I could see these making into something really special for a wedding or something ......

But your necklase is lovelly anyway
some people go crazy over moonstones

I wonder what a replacement would cost

If you won’t wear it I recommend leaving it as is and selling it. There are many who will treasure the vintage aspect of it and will love it. Since there aren’t any markings it would be helpful to understand what the metal is to price it fairly. Perhaps a pawn shop can advise (do not sell to them, their offer is your baseline and they will be able to tell you if it is base metal, silver, or gold).

I would go find the moonstone and reset it. I wonder what metal it is?
