Vintage/Antique wedding band thread

Just purchased my first antique wedding band from That Vintage Sparkle. It is a Lohengrin 18 WG band with milgrain and an orange blossom (or is it a forget-me-not?) & leaves pattern :kiss2: On the inside, it has the Lohengrin hallmark / name and the inscription: "RMS to HVM 12-17-32". The pattern is still very crispy has that ever so slight patina that makes it look well loved.

@MakingTheGrade I think one of the bands you posted has the same hallmark but without the Lohengrin name? Pattern is very similar too, sans the leaves.

I do and I love it! Yours is gorgeous !

I might have just purchased a little vintage yellow gold Cartier wedding band with an inscription from August 1949. I will blame the Thursday night wine.

My new antique 18l gold wb. Engraved April 10, 1920. The color is very rich. Shown also with my antique Belais 18k wg band from the same era, posted earlier.

Lovely rings! I am hoping this thread will see more activity!

This is so pretty!!

Thank you! It really is stunning & so tactile to run my fingers around. I was weirdly worried about taking A&D on holiday & so left them & their happiness at home, but after 15 days away I was itching to get that ring back on my finger.

I wondered if I’d left them out, like had they ever been to Barbados before, had they ever even been on a plane during their marriage (1917), had they had lovely fresh fish & champagne at sunset in the heat….. I felt guilty for not taking them & possibly adding to their experiences & their story :kiss2:

Calling antique wedding ring peeps!

I am trying to understand more about my antique band & how it would have been worn by its original bride. It’s 2 tone, so would it have be paired with an engagement ring in 18/22ct gold, platinum or two tone?

Now that I have her I am interested in building up a stack for my RH. At the moment I am flipping between all bands, or making a period appropriate set, so an earlier engagement ring & a later eternity. I have searched by year, but I have NO idea how wealthy my bride would have been & what type of engagement ring would have been paired with this ornate band. Or was this type of ornate band standard at the time? Any ideas?

^^.

Too late to edit the above, but I wanted to add that in the UK, wedding rings of this era were usually always plain 22ct yellow gold, with the odd plain platinum knocking around. Also flower etched bands, but rarely two tone, so I think this style was maybe a US thing? Maybe D didn’t haven an engagement ring as it was a WW1 wedding?

i love how you’re thinking about the ring and A&D’s story. I’m not an expert, but maybe an Edwardian engagement ring?

Mine are Fred and Lucille and they married in 1937. Given the time period, I’m guessing no engagement ring. Also, I’ve tried pairing with other rings, and it always looks somehow wrong. I wonder if it’s Lucille expressing an opinion

Funny you should mention Lucille expressing an opinion, as I’ve had some vibes I wouldn’t usually have when wearing A&D. I have spoken about this with @lavenderdragonfly23 & since had a word with D (brides initial was always second) to calm my mind down. I also had a word with the Vicarage during renovations & before we moved in if you recall, and the old girl was definitely listening….

I explained that whatever happened during her marriage, happy or sad, possibly angry or even an early death given how pristine the band is (I’ve been generally on edge & also snappy with my 16 year old when wearing it, who’s an absolute sweetheart & we NEVER argue) that her ring is now in a good place. A happy, loved & peaceful place with beautiful surroundings & a place where she can just put her feet up. I’m not a believer in ghosts as such, nor am I religious, but this ring has felt perfectly peaceful on my hand ever since. Maybe my imagination, but weird.

Anybody else picking up vibes from antique pieces? Is that worth a new thread??

Vibes are definitely why I love antique jewels and jewelry.

I never thought of this. I have collected so many of these over the years I can't imagine how many folks I would have to reach out to lol. I guess hopefully they just know that the bands are in a peaceful place now.

When I was searching, my priorities were: Platinum, in my size, from the 1920s or 1930s, an inscription with names rather than initials. This last one was the hardest to find, but perhaps lacking imagination, I wanted the people to seem more “real” to me. Because of this long list of wants, I was happy to have a ring with a pattern that is more worn even though I admire the crispness of your ring and all the other beautiful ones I see here.

The ring has a little gap in the inscription, and an interruption in the pattern on the outside make me think maybe Lucille had it resized as she got older and that she wore it for a very long time.

I find the ring comforts me when I wear it, which I like to think is Lucille, even though I am a more practical than spiritual person generally. It does all fit with my fondness for old things. I have an old telephone (Western Electric 202) from the 30s, and I pick up that heavy handset from time to time just to wonder what kinds of conversations went through it.

I’m sooo glad you are feeling more at peace with A&D :kiss2:

I love this band :kiss2: And you are right about the wear & beautiful patina. In my blinded state to find a perfect pattern, I overlooked all the ones who have been loved & worn for decades. I may need to re-think my new stack…..

These are mine - I wear them as a low profile set every day instead of my actual wedding set. The engraved band is 18k WG with a YG interior band and old hallmarks, much of which has worn away. The other is not technically antique - it’s a remade band in WG/YG with seven OMCs that are kind of wonky but that’s part of the fun anyways. Both ebay finds.
