My insurance has already paid B2C the insurance claim funds. Please help me pick between these two. The diamond on the left is 2.02, excellent cut, K/IF with a L/W ratio of 1.35. The diamond on the right is 2.53, excellent cut, L/IF, L/W ratio of 1.32. Which would you pick? He did apologize that the video quality wasn't the same as the first but it's what they could get. Same price. I have to decide quick before they send the 2.02 back. Go!

Really tough choice. Let me preface what I say below by saying that I'm not someone who looks at emerald cuts a lot so take what I say with a grain of salt (or a teaspoon).

The rational side of my brain on this very early Australian morning is saying take the K, but the value for money side is saying "Are you crazy for giving up half a carat?!?!?!?"

For some reason, the way the L looks facet wise appeals to me more. I'm sure there are more experienced PSers on here who will school me on why the L isn't as preferable to the K.

I guess the K will look better if you are looking at spread given the higher L:W ratio.

Can they get you more options? Any particular reason for the lower colors and IF clarity?

There isn't a rush to buy one today. Hold out for the best stone (that you can afford).

I'm going with the lower color because size is important to me and I love the warmer stones. The clarity is so high just because it happened to be that high. I have to choose one in the next couple hours because I'm only purchasing one stone so one has to be returned to their partner vendor.

The measurements are as follows.....

2.02 carat- 8.44x6.26x4.02

2.53 carat- 8.85x6.70x4.50

If I'm picking one of these stones I have to hurry. One has to go back and I leave Sunday on a weeklong cruise. I've literally been doing this for over a month now. I switched from my local B&M jeweler to B2C on the advice of PC folks. At this point I feel like I really need to shit or get off the pot. If I were B2C at this point I would have killed me. LOL!

I told them I would give them a final answer on one of the 2 by today. I wish it were easier to buy an emerald stone. I have loved them my whole life and plan on keeping this one for a very long time. :)

OK, now that you've posted the dimensions, the larger stone would be my preference out of those two.

If you have no other time left to choose, then such is life. I don't have so much of an issue with these stones being IF clarity. For these step cut stones, I would have thought that the higher clarity the better as these don't have the ability to hide inclusions all that well due to their facet structure (and lack of the same amount of virtual facets as one would find in a modern round brilliant).

I'm sad that the enthusiasm and excitement about diamonds seems to be reserved for rounds on Pricescope. Rounds are just 1 shape of so many for diamonds and I wish I would have seen some of the same input that I see for rounds- even if it was just personal opinion. :/

I would chose the larger one. I have an emerald and I think emerald look nicer if they are larger... that's my personal opinion. I have a J 3 carat emerald and it faces up very white. I would say go big.

Rounds are the most common diamond shape these days compared with fancier cut stones. It's just a reflection of the market.

i don't love either (and that's probably just me being picky) but if i had to choose, i'd go with the 2.53. the 2.02 looks like a lot of the steps are on/off at the same time. but the video is pretty crummy. I seem to remember the ASET wasn't that great on it either. Like i said before, step cuts are REALLY hard to choose so i always hesitate when someone posts about them.

Honestly, this is a huge upgrade from what I had so I'm excited. I originally had a round, J color, I1 that was deep cut and 2.01 carats. I'm kinda shocked that rounds are the most popular. They just seem kinda boring to me- everyone has one. That's one of the reasons I'm excited to move to the emerald cut. I just wish it was easier to buy and make decisions on them! LOL!

You are correct, the ASET did have a lot of light leakage, but then at the same time it's harder to get ASETs on the fancy cuts which I totally get. I agree with you on the facets being on and off and the same time. Thank you so much for your response! <3

i COMPLETELY agree, i'm not a round kinda gal, i like unusual. (just look at my East/West marquise profile pic) If i were to have a round i'd have a really warm stone :lickout: set in yellow gold, just to have something different. Obviously i think about diamonds WAY too much!

Make sure you have a really good return policy, your eyes are obviously going to be the best judge when you have it in hand. How are you planning on setting it?

The right one.

I don't think this is a fair statement. It's probably more that rounds are much much easier to choose and comment on because there are angles and exact specs which are known to produce great round diamonds, whereas stepcuts are A) subjective in their beauty and B) have no definite measurements that are guaranteed to produce great diamonds. You're still very new to this forum. Go back and do a lot of reading from the true experts on stepcuts and you'll see that it is FAR harder to find a great stepcut than it is a round. And you'll see that even the TRUE experts don't agree with what makes a great stepcut diamond. You have to decide for yourself what you value - big table, small table, high crown, squat shape, elongated shape, large corners, small windmills... so many choices and very subjective. Our telling you what we like best is much harder with fancy cuts than it is with a round. As you said, rounds are standard and very few variations.

If it has to be one of those two, I'd vote for the 2.53. It has a more appealing shape to my eyes.

I love east/west settings! My fingers are too wide to pull off. The more unusual the better to me! I know absolutely no one IRL with an emerald cut stone. Go figure!

It is harder to quantify cut in an emerald shape, I agree with that. I've spent HOURS reading through thread after thread and worry I'm missing something even with hours spent on this. I saw one thread with two emerald cuts side by side and it was so apparent which one I liked better. I've had a much harder time deciding on my own stones. There hasn't been one that screamed out "I'm way better than the other!" I like both of them for different reasons. Ugh. Ha! First world problems I suppose.

So then let me ask... what's the rush? Why not wait until you find the one that speaks to you? I understand wanting to have a ring again, but if you compromise now you'll most likely always be checking out other diamonds and possibly wishing you'd held out.

B2C is in business to make money. They'll keep showing you diamonds. Narrow down what you really want (ie: 1.30-1.35 ratio, I-K color, 2.0 minimum carat, VS1 or higher, wide windmills, great fire) and then let us know - we'd be happy to help you.

I just cant tell enough from the video to pick one or the other!

Ok, I slowly moved the videos and I'm going with the K...I think I like the faceting better on the K. But honestly, I would like more/different choices.
(I know that's probably not helpful)

Here is the relative size difference on a size 6 1/2 finger. This might help you decide if the size is worth going lower in color (ignoring performance
because hard to tell from the video)

Personally, I would hold out for the stone that speaks to me. Plenty more will come you way and if they want to make a sale, they will continue to help you find a nice stone that "moves you". Good luck.

They've now sent over these images of the 2.53 stone. It's been like pulling teeth getting info from them. I hope it's gorgeous when it arrives or I'm sending it back and starting over. Lol.
