VERY shallow OEC?

I've found a very pretty ring set with what the seller is calling an OEC, but it's really shallow -- 59% depth with a 70% table. I know that it's harder to rate OECs "by the numbers", but this stone just seems to have a HUGE table. I've seen it in person and it's gorgeous, but its proportions (on paper) feel strange. Would you go with your head or your heart in this situation? I just don't know enough about OECs to make any kind of informed judgement!

Just from those two measurments, I'd guess it might be a transitional cut or maybe even an early RB (they typically have huge tables and shallow depth). You'd get lots of white light return ... but it's hard to predict if it's a good cut or a bad cut on the basis of just those two numbers. It's also a personal thing: some people like large tables, and others don't. Since you've seen it in person and you say it's gorgeous, I'd vote for following your heart.

I think I'm going to ask if I can put a deposit on it and take it to an independent appraiser (or they can send it to an appraiser of my choice). I'm itching to buy it, but I really want to make sure I get what I'm paying for (or am asking for a discount if one is due!). :D

Just curious- where did you get the table measurement- is there a GIA report?
Is simple to calculate depth, but table size is another matter entirely.
If there's a GIA ( or even EGL) report- what shape is the diamond identified as?

The percentages are on the report (GIA) and it's identified as an OEC.

OEC??
GIA would call a stone "Old European Brilliant"
Of course all of us would call it an "OEC" but these little things mean a lot.
Sorry to seem stuck on details but there's a big problem with shoppers being mislead about lab reports...I just want to make sure you've been given correct info
Have you seen the GIA report?

Questioning what I saw now.

If you can get the GIA report number, and the exact weight we can verify the report ( in most cases)
