I have two questions. Any thoughts on these two vendors?

*Barry Gutwein (Excel Diamonds)

*Jonathon (goodoldgold)

Also, what is the approximate price differential between an online site like whiteflash and goodoldgold? I don''t want to buy online unless I find something that is absolutely perfect... I am perfectly happy paying a little more to go through somewhere like goodoldgold but I want to know how much more I am actually paying.

I would be thankful for any comments..... Thanks!

Hi John and welcome!

Both vendors have an excellent rep here. What you need to do is to compare prices of similar diamonds between vendors and see what benefits and services are offered from each vendor such as photos, Idealscope and ASET images, level of cut quality, upgrade policies etc. You can do this by using the Pricescope your Diamond tool above and use search by cut as this should bring up diamonds of known cut quality for you to use as a comparison.

Lorelei, thank you for the reply and comments. I have to say that you are absolutely phenomenal! I''ve seen a lot of your previous posts and you are very helpful.

I have tried to compare diamonds of the same cut, size, clarity etc but I have found that there is such a huge differential in price and I do not fully comprehend why. I mean I understand about polish/symmetry and cut dimensions and everything but I do not truly understand how to evaluate a price....

So I guess I was trying to understand roughly how much Gutwein/GOG prices were in comparison and relative to a site like Whiteflash....

Is there a preference between the two vendors? Like probably everyone who is searching I am really looking for an exceptionally cut diamond and i''ve been searching but haven''t found anything really appealing yet.

Honestly, you can''t go wrong with either vendor IMO. It may come down to you has or can get what you are looking for.

I would like to contact someone from exceldiamonds... I find their website to be a little overwhelming for me b/c I need help in finding the right diamond for me. Will they provide me with some personal service?

any other comments on these two vendors and prices would be appreciated! Thanks.

I think it is hard to make summary statements regarding diamond pricing between vendors. There are so many factors that go into pricing a diamond it would be hard to come up with trends.

I would suggest just calling each vendor. Both vendors have rep''s that post her and are very customer service oriented.

* Blush* You are very kind John and that is very much appreciated - thank you!!

With the diamond, both vendors are excellent so really it depends on who has the diamond you want and whose services suit you the best etc and that might have some bearing on price. But I would ditto calling them to see what they have available and that way you can get a good idea of which vendor you prefer to work with.

Hi John,

I just got done working with Judah at Excel, and let me tell you, he''s AWESOME. If you call, he will probably answer the phone! I called a few times, and I think Barry answered once.

Judah is also super responsive to email, so you can also communicate with him that way. He is very helpful, quite knowledgeable, and really wants to help you get the best fit for YOU.

I ended up with a FABULOUS radiant from them. I can''t praise Excel enough! They have a great selection, and great prices. We''ll definitely work with them again, and I wish you the best of luck with your search!

I will say that Good Old Gold has been a Pricescope vendor since before I joined the board, and there are probably hundreds of testimonials on here about his service and quality of stones! I have stones from both Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash, and I felt they carried the best stock of ideal cut stones and provided the most information. I also felt that there was some protection from me to buy from vendors who advertise here, because they certainly have incentive to keep customers happy!

I am not sure what shape you are looking for but I would recommend ERD as well. I just went to see him again today and just reminded of why I like them so much! They are all so friendly and fun - in addition to having a good eye. You can always count on an honest opinion.

John, I realized I didn''t answer one of your questions. I sincerely did look at diamonds locally and in a nearby city before realizing that NO ONE had a selection of ideal cut stones at any place I looked! Stones that were not as well cut had price tags just as high as the super ideals I found at Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash. I told the local jeweler I would like to buy from him if he could call in some comparable stones. But he couldn''t and probably wouldn''t have price-matched anyway. I did look at one jeweler who carried Hearts on Fire diamonds, which are hearts and arrows cut and equivalent to GOG and WF stones. I did a price comparison and found HoF to be about 30% higher in price than stones at GOG and WF. So it was settled for me. I did my research and I couldn''t do better on quality, selection, and price than I could do at Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash. (I sound like a commercial, but I am really just a PriceScope addict

If you are looking for a round or a princess cut, personally I''d look at Infinity diamonds as well, Wink at Winfield''s is a vendor.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Diamondseeker thanks especially for the details on your own venture. It helps me to hear how other people fared when doing this themselves... =)
