I bought this unheated Madagascan 4.09ct blue sapphire from CeylonSapphireGems on IG.

Here is the vendor photo vs What it looked like in person
vendorpic.jpg personalpic.jpg

And this is the color I was hoping for/expected it to look like:

Eurgh! That is so misleading. They portrayed it as a bright cobalt blue but the real thing looks like an inky navy blue. NOT what was ordered!! And shady vendor dealings on the refund to boot.. No thanks..

Yes, I consider this to be materially different. Did you weigh it? Maybe he's just a broker and he sent you the wrong stone... The refund situation is making me anxious for you so I wish you good luck.

Ooo, that's a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. Visually it looked about right...chonky with a high crown up top and a big booty down below.

But instead, I just ran around my house and yard every few hours, trying to get it to look something like the vendor photos.

I recently purchased this 1.76 ct Montana sapphire from The sapphire guy on Etsy
His photos and mine shown on my finger.
His shows it changes to a lavender/purple. But I haven’t noticed that in person but I am happy with this color!

I am sure you can guess which is the vendor image. Seller gem deposit on insta and etsy. Has very good reviews and very pleasant to work with. Asked for a refund, and they don’t have any problem with me sending it back. It is a rubellite tourmaline. It was said to be neon pink or neon red depending on lighting. Not so much.

From a recent Mastercut gems sale, a cushiony oval zircon. Plan to set in yellow gold. Fell in love with it in one of Rachels videos and in real life was not at all disappointed! Top photos from Mastercut.

They really need better photography. I've wanted to buy MANY of their stones but the pictures are so hard to read. Sometimes the cuts look super wonky and the girdles look all over the place but then I see photos of their stones that people have bought and they look wonderful

I've been happy with my gem purchases from them. Only returned one, and only because it was too big. They have a no questions asked return policy and are gracious- always. And great prices, especially during sales!(there's one on right now...I picked up a pad colored zircon!)

Eurgh! That is so misleading.

Just seeing this but I have to add that this is so easy to do. I have done this by accident by just increasing the "exposure" in post-processing. It's amazing how gorgeous you can make a dark sapphire look without too much trouble. I do not know this vendor but have been tempted by those glorious-looking stones.

@LilAlex oh dear you might be the only person on Pricescope who hasn’t seen the threads on this vendor. You should look it up, especially @AnastasiaBeaverhausen’s bad experience.

@Mreader, I saw the thread(s) but I do not know the vendor. Not inclined to gamble at this point, especially internationally.

I picked up this pendant on DiamondsbyLauren website. It was a total pleasure working with them, my first ever FLY, but I don’t see the saturation in the stone in my day to day as was on their website. It’s hard to buy jewelry online!! 45F7425C-4211-47FE-8E60-E027DF740361.jpeg 6240980F-5F14-48E1-96D0-964A3C2236DE.jpeg

Your first picture is really blurry any chance you could post another? It’s hard to compare because of the first picture.

Hi. So sorry about that, I’m a terrible photographer. here Are 2 more pics, hopefully taken better. Again, no dig at DBL, just hard to shop online ( for me, at least). E6327C7E-9860-4A3E-8DE8-DFC923216121.jpeg 8D3A4B1A-0AAC-4D93-B629-37311457C9D9.jpeg

I understand. I have a DBL ring and it looks like the photograph. That one does look a quite a bit lighter. Don’t hesitate to return it if you aren’t happy!

Thanks for the advice, but I’ve had it for far too long. Plus I had my jeweler add 2 inches to the chain to make it long enough for my fat neck. :snore: Sigh

Super duper pleased with the neon 4.5mm unheated Portuguese cut sapphire.

Hi,

I finally got my first precision cut gem. Sapphires are my favourites so of course it had to be a Sapphire :)
Two years ago I decided to buy my first piece from Gene, but there sadly wasn’t an EU shipping option (I live in Germany).
Now it‘s available and I‘m super happy.

I bought the gem 2729, an unheated blue to violet shifting Sapphire from Ilaka Madagascar.
Size: 7,62mm x 5,88mm (depth about 4.4mm, measured by myself)
weight: 1.555ct

I love the steel blue colour and the amazing luster. Steel blue and violet are my favourite colours. I‘m excited how it performs in direct sunlight.

I‘ll let this one set in 950 Platinum in N/S orientation

1-2 photo from Gene and a Screenshot from the video

3-7 iPhone 11 photos in indirect sunlight, different angles (it’s cloudy and snowy in Germany)

8. photo with fluorescent tube 4000K

9. photo with a small incandescent light bulb

have a nice day,

Sorry for double posting. I forgot to mention, that the stone is more bluish and slightly more saturated in real life compared to my pictures. Colour shifters are really hard to photograph.

In this photo, tone, hue and saturation are most accurate.
Took it seconds ago in front of a window, while a small blizzard is raging.

What a beautiful gem! I eyed this one and tried to convince my sister to buy it but obviously she didn’t. So glad I got to see more pics of it! I’d love to see more pics when it’s set.

Once I've read about a small blizzard I knew you must live in Germany :) It's a very nice stone! Congratulations! Greetings from Germany(at least part-time;))) !
