Vanadium Chrysoberyl - color uniqueness and availability

Do you guys think if these are more common yellowish green or vanadium chrysoberyl?

It's a lovely colour but it's just 'normal' chrysoberyl.

I like the cushion best. It has very strong yellow color, and it’s large. The other two are nice, but the color isn’t as strong, despite being greenish. I have a super intense neon highlighter marker yellow chrysoberyl that everyone comments on. While I’m not a fan of yellow gems in particular, the sparkle, luster and neon color of a fine yellow chrysoberyl can’t be beat imho.

That cushion is very intense to vivid saturation according to the seller’s description. That size is also attractive with great presence! It’s a bit yellower than the other two, do you have a photo or two of your neon yellow one? I am still trying to explore if a more yellowish green one could be found, but am open to options, with strong vividness and neoness.

Also the cut of the cushion is said to be very brilliant with least extinction. This is also what I want, preferably precision cut actually. I hope with chrysoberyl, it’s easier to achieve these.

For these three chrysoberyls, I would choose 2.35ct. This one has a stronger color than the other two, without brown hue. The other two no brown hue but too light in color. In addition, for chrysoberyls， green or yellow are relatively rare color, and yellow-green is more common

0.99CT and 1.38ct not green but yellow-green

Ever see neon color on a gym-shoe or other sports clothing object? Well it’s that color, although my camera fails to capture it. It’s Tanzanian. I have some others that are set, but not as neon, and I have a 8x6 stone that is also really super yellow.

These are very bright in color and no brown, and the cut and luster is amazing. Even if the stone is not neon, chrysoberyl is simply beautiful for the polish and luster a well cut stone takes on.

its with a gem memo from GIC in 2019 stating the colour as yellowish green, and it does look like these two pics indicate a bit more green. While I know nothing about GIC ( guess it’s a lab in Sri Lanka), will these colour shifts change your view on this stone?

I am still torn between different hues of chrysoberyl. What I am sure is I am not going to spend a lot for vanadium ones ATM, but one with True intense vividness and neoness.

this cushion should be the closest one which is a already faceted gem, but think that I may still be able and also want to get more on both vividness and the hue. If turn out no faceted gems can sing to us, may be I will consider custom cut, by someone like Jeff white. I saw a number of chrysoberyls he cut in his sold gem gallery, and some of them look nice as the two below. Just not sure how much more will I need to spend going that way.

Thanks!! Yes, it does go a bit green, especially in artificial lighting. When I took that photo, the stone looked like it had its own light source, but alas, my camera can’t capture it that well.

I purchased the round from a vendor that way. It wasn’t advertised as precision cut, but it seems to be. It is such a sparkler!!

Yellow sapphires tend to be a more golden yellow overall, but there’s also some chrysoberyl that is golden yellow as well. I often recommend chrysoberyl as a substitute for yellow sapphire because it’s almost as hard (8.5 on hardness scale), very durable, and best of all, not treated (that I know of). It’s also much more affordable. It’s one of the most underrated gems, while it’s color changing variety, alexandrite, takes all the accolades.

The cushion is definitely a more golden color, and if you want a yellow sapphire clone, this would do it.

The bottom round is more chartreuse. I love it!!

Both are beautiful gems, I just have a preference for the chartreuse color, as I’m not really into golden yellow, but that’s just me. You may want a more golden yellow.

How do you guys feel about the quality of chrysoberyl that this seller have been providing constantly?

However, considering the issues buying from Sri Lanka, which is where this vendor is from, brought up recently in PS, I admit that I am a bit hesitant when considering whether to give it a try.

I was looking for a center stone for a setting I had in mind, so I was open, but just went in a different direction at the end. I've never seen this vendor's chrysoberyl in real life, but the sapphire I received was very beautiful and the experience very pleasant.

I do imagine returns would be a pain, but more because of the logistics of shipping overseas than the vendor being non responsive. I'd ask for pictures and videos (they are great at customer service) and try to see if that works. I think they have a small vanadium chrysoberyl for sale too, no?

These are beautiful When it’s saturated enough, it to some extent looks like a slightly more greenish version of paraiba, does my comparison make sense?

I don't know about vanadium chrysoberyls but some alexandrites fluoresce deep red under SW UV due to their chromium content. I'd imagine like any other stone if there's enough iron impurities the fluorescence will be quenched. So an alexandrite with little or no iron would be the best candidate, but they would be expensive.

PS I wish I could post an accurate photo showing the colour of a small gem alexandrite crystal from Brazil I have here. It's a beautiful mint green in daylight, looking just like the photos of vanadium chrysoberyls on here. The camera just sees a watered down blue-grey-green. I wonder if there's vanadium as well as chromium in it?

Yes its comparable. Vanadium chrysoberyl has higher RI and sparkles more because of that. Its also more durable as tourmaline as the hardness is between spinel and sapphire.

Tourmaline tends to chip more in my experience. Chrysoberyl is tough!!!
