Curious to get some opinions from those more in the know.. I am not an experienced jewlery buyer, and wondering if this seems like a good price for such an item. Are there precautions I could take to make sure this is a natural gem? Maybe there are other concerns in buying alexandrite like this I need to be aware of? I like the looks and other characteristics of this ring, but would like to be sure it is correctly priced and not a scam. Any advice welcome. Thanks very much.

I'm not an expert but I don't think that certificate means anything. It's not like it's by a reputable lab like GIA or even by a Graduate gemologist. I'd be careful!

In addition to the sketchy cert, the numbers don't add up to a nice stone... 0.32ct and measurements of 6mm x 4mm means it's probably as flat as a pancake.

+1 to this, definitely not worth it IMHO. If you want an alexandrite ring for around that price (and far superior quality from a trustworthy vendor), look at multicolour, or David Wein's website--he owns multicoulor I believe. These are just examples of what's on his site.

I second this, David Wein has a lot of nice Alexandrite rings at reasonable prices. And you can be 99.9999% certain everything is as he says it is.

+2...I am far from an expert, but I have an alexandrite that's double the ct and only slightly bigger dimensions. Mine is .67ct, and it's dimensions are 6.7mm x 4.2mm. I got it from multicolour. I would definitely take a look around there.

1. That certificate is worth exactly the cost of a sheet of paper. It tells you nothing.
2. Pictures are so small that I cannot make out the cut, clarity, nor colour change, all of which determines the value
3. 6 x 4 mm should be around 0.5 ct

To be honest, that looks like one of those shopping channel rings, which are usually overpriced to begin with. I concur with everyone else to go to David for an alexandrite that will be worth your time and money.
