Useless things you really want

OMG, we have this one: http://www.zappos.com/simplehuman-38l-rectangular-deluxe-step-can-next-gen-stainless-steel

And we really love it!!! Not only does it look sharp, but I just adore how slowly it closes and there is even a switch that can be used to prop the top wide open for longer intervals, which is especially nice to be able to use when your cooking, cleaning, etc. Everyone who visits our home always makes a comment about how awesome this thing is!!! Best $150 I ever spent!!

OK, Dani, you were very persuasive! I ordered this from Zappos and it came yesterday just in time for the holidays! You were right - it is beautiful and sleek! Who knew you could ever be so excited about a trash can? I've toyed with this a long time and sometimes life is just too short so you have to go for it! Thanks for the extra push!!

My best friend bought that fancy can several years ago. It stopped working after one year, so now it's just a normal trash can. A very expensive normal trash can. Be warned. :cheeky:

Hey, we have a "library" and it is not useless.. Er, well, i mean we have a room with just bookcases of books because we havent gotten a couch yet in that room - we have that in main family room... so, it's sort of a library. :)) i will call it that... Sounds better when friends come over and see a room w/only books and three plants.

I would like a mini house out back that i can run away and hide in. I will fill it with all the girly things that i cant have living with three guys and a male cat. Couches will be covered in cashmere and walls will be purple. The walls will be sound proofed so i cant hear my dh vocallizing his cheers and upsets during various portions of football games over in the main house.

I also want a cashmere sweater and pant set.

Oh, and a pool.

Lots of designer jeans.

A tranquilzer gun.

A basket of kittens.

A chef...

Ugh, dream is over. Off to cook ham. Lol

Yep, that's always a possibility - I just registered it with SimpleHuman for the warranty. I love it though - looks great in the kitchen!

It *is* a good looking trash can!

MC--You're too funny. It's nice to dream, isn't it?
I agree that a library isn't useless. DH has agreed to build a library for me, so now it's a matter of designing it. And convincing him that we need a fireplace . . .

I'm so happy you like it! You ordered the one I have, right? I did see the reviews for the automatic one, so the reason why I didn't purchase that one is because alot of the reviews said that it's so sensitive to motion that it opens and closes if the wind blows on it, lol. But I totally love the one I have, it's very nice looking, and when I'm cooking/throwing out alot of trash I just leave it propped open. I hope you enjoy it!!! Happy holidays!!! :appl:

ps- I never knew to register it for the warranty :blackeye:

That'll be great. Be sure to post before and after pictures of your library! I'd love to see it and placement and all that. I think that is the hardest part... once it's there, it's there for good! lol I love the ones that flank a fireplace.

Books, a cozy chair, and a warm fire. What more can one need? Oh yeah, and a basket of kittens. :cheeky:

A Boxee Box. Why is that useless? Because I already have Boxee loaded onto my laptop, and a cable to connect my laptop to the TV. So I have zero use for the box.

But it's so cooooooooool!

Yes, I got the same one and I love it! I got so many compliments during Christmas about the trashcan! It just looks so sleek and clean and no bag hanging out anywhere. I really felt the same way about the automatic one and would be concerned that the sensor would either break or go bad and then you wouldn't have a trashcan at all! I can step on the step just fine and even manually open it if I want or need to but no more banging and clacking lid closing. My old trashcan had a swinging lid and if you pushed it too hard, it would fall off. Funny the pleasures we are willing to pay for but again, many thanks for the recommendation and Happy Holidays to you and yours as well!
