I have been on the hunt for a 3ct stone for my e-ring upgrade and came across this stone at a local jeweler. I am a diamond noob and need all the advice I can get on this diamond as it is a sizeable purchase for me. At the price of USD110k, do you think this is a fair price to pay? More importantly, do you think the diamond is well cut?

Thanks so much for taking time to read my post :)

The specs of the 3.41 ct GIA Triple Ex, F, VS2, are:

Fluorescence: None
Culet: None
Measurements: 9.74 x 9.78 x 5.89

Table: 58%
Depth: 60.3%
Crown: 32.5%
Pavilion: 41.2%
Girdle: medium faceted 3.5%

I do not want to comment on the optical properties, as I am no expert, but it does seem priced okay to me.
Have you tried to take a look at James Allen, Good Old Gold, Whiteflash, and Brian Gavin?

From JA there is a stone that has similar characteristic (F, VS2) for a very similar price

You could use the HCA tool in the Tools section above to have an idea of the performance of these stones.

Best of luck!

If crown and pavilion values are degrees, as I think, this stone has a 1.8 HCA and is in the excellent range

If I can read the numbers on the GIA rep of the other stone correctly, it has an HCA of 1.0

The general advice is to use the HCA scores as a first way of screening the stones.
A stone with an HCA score of 1 does not necessarily perform better in real life than a stone with a score of 1.8, because the score is an estimation of the stone performance rather than a measurement of the actual appearance of the diamond.

If you have seen IRL the first stone you posted and love it, I'd say go for it! :))

I need to add that I am based in Singapore so I would much prefer buying it from a brick and mortar shop based here instead of shipping a stone sight unseen. Plus I doubt my poor heart can suffer the shock of a diamond lost in transit

Thanks for pointing it out. Yes, the crown and pavilion are in degrees. This goes to show how much of a noob I am as far as diamond goes

 I make the same mistake all the time!

I hope some more expert PSer will jump in soon to give you some more advice :))

It's not a poorly cut stone but for 110k, I wouldn't settle for this stone. The crown angle is a bit shallow as is the overall depth. Probably is a pretty stone but I think you could do better. Contact one of the PS vendors and tell them what you are looking for so that they can source a couple of stones for you.

+1 If you're worried about the stone getting lost, all of our vendors ship insured so it'll be replaced if it get lost! I would really talk to any of our vendors because you'd get a better deal and possibly something cut better.

Example:

it scored a 2.0 on the HCA so it's worth looking in to. 3.52 F VS1 for 91k which is 20k below your budget. James Allen also give pricescope member a discount on their stones so you could ask them what they'd be giving on this stone. I'd put this on hold and request an idealscope image:

I agree with 04 diamond I am sure JA would send you the stones and return for alot less than spending $110,000 for a stone you end up settling for......I only see happy customers an their e-rings.
