Upgrading my bezel studs, questions for you...

Hi there!
So I'm about ready to upgrade my bezel studs, right now they are .31 each and I'm going to .52 each. I have pretty small lobes and I had the chance to try on some .62 each bezeled studs at Tiffany's which were a bit too big (shocked that I didn't like the larger ones, hehe). I think the .52's will be perfect, hopefully

Questions:

1. 18 kt WG or Platinum?
2. Milgrain or non?

I have 18kt WG for my bezels now and love them but I've been trying to make all of my "forever" pieces in Platinum (all of my rings now are platinum). But I don't know if I want to add the weight on my ears since I don't want any droop. I'm going to order jumbo backs to help with that but would rather not add any weight if I don't have too.

I love  Milgrain! And I think it would be a nice touch to incorporate the style with my new E-ring. But will it make the studs look bigger? Do you think it will be as classic? I do have a bezel OEC non-milgrain (only .46) necklace from BGD but I wear my earrings all of the time so I'd rather have my studs somewhat match my e-ring but not too match-matchy. Eventually I'll upgrade my necklace too...

Here are my current studs:

And my new E-ring:

Oh and I did get my original bezel studs from WF but have always worked w/ Lesley so BGD will be doing my new set. I will have them alter their handmade bezels though, right now the backs of them form a U shape and I love the V shape my current ones have, they allow the stones to sit much more flush against my ears.

Thanks all!

If I were you I'd go WG for the weight issue unless you really have your heart set on platinum. I'm just always shocked at how heavy platinum is when I feel it!

I'd also stick with non-milgrain. I think the smooth bezel makes diamonds look bigger since it kind of blends with the shiny diamond. Plus I don't love the milgrain I've seen BGD do on bezeled stuff...it seems kind of blobby. But I'm sure they could do finer milgrain if you specified? I'm not a huge milgrain fan in general so I may just be biased.

Thanks Thing :) Great minds for sure, hehe.

I actually came across Pheonix's inside only milgrain and I love that! I think it would look super nice w/ my new E-ring and a great middle ground between smooth bezel and milgrain.

I'm so torn on platinum, I did email Lesley to ask about weight. I totally forgot though, I have pair of small platinum studs from Tiffany from DH. I'm going to compare those against my current studs but I don't remember them being heavy. But yeah, I don't want to add extra weight to my ears at all.

So what are your plans for your next pair of studs?

I would probably go with WG because I can't stand heavy earrings on my ears. Plus I just don't see all the hype about platinum but I'm probably in the minority on that...

I vote milgrain and I think the inside-only milgrain is a great idea!

Brian Gavin does such beautiful milgrain bezels that it has to be my vote (plus, it just goes with your ring)! I think plain bezels is a more modern look. And if you plan on having them long term, then go with the platinum. I wouldn't do jumbo backs, though, because you aren't going to need them with studs than small. I made a mistake and ordered some and they are huge and really scratched my posts. So just order large regular backs and not jumbo!

Just a note about the milgrain. When I ordered my pendant from BG, I asked for inside only milgrain. When they sent me the pics, it clearly had full milgrain. They said to look at it and see what I thought. Well, it was gorgeous when I saw it in person, so I did not send it back to be done again. All that is to say that it is great either way. Their milgrain is very delicate and beautiful.

I have milgrain platinum bezel studs from BGD and I love, love, love them. I don't find them to be heavy at all, and my stones are a bit larger than .6s. There is no sagging (I did splurge and get La Pousette backs though, which may help?). And I love the milgrain detail. It is so delicately done and creates the illusion of a faint sparkle or shimmer around the stone, if that makes any sense. I think it definitely makes them look a little more special and it works well, IMO, with my stones as they are AVCs. So I vote definitely milgrain and maybe platinum??
