I am in talks with a jeweler creating this ring for me. I don’t know if it’s worth it though however to spend $4205 (price he’s quoting me at for the three stone emerald ring) during what seems like post apocalyptic coronavirus times...

I found a beautiful 1CT GIA H VVS2 emerald stone going for $2776 & I’m afraid of missing out on the deal.

Thoughts?

Here are my thoughts.
9.7 million people died in 2017 from cancer.
6 million died in the Holocaust.
3,300 worldwide die every day from auto accidents.
Yet you are questioning the morality of buying a diamond because 4,000 have died from Corona virus?
Why? Because Corona is happening today? Because media headlines manipulate you?

Where is your perspective?

Do whatever makes you happy.
That may be giving all that money to causes/charities, or putting a diamond on your finger.
Maybe donate half to a charity that benefits Corona, and the other half to your diamond budget.
It's your money.

I would think about if you have any risks related to job security (due to impact of coronavirus) and stock market volatility. If no major concerns, it's a good deal and what you're looking for, go for it!

It’s not that exactly it’s just whether or not I should spare the expense now versus later.

Only you know the many factors affecting the decision, so only you can decide.

if i understand correctly, you have funds that are at your disposal and your initial plan is to work with jeweler to create a 3 stone emerald ring. then you find another stone that you like and not sure if you would want to proceed with the 3 stone emerald ring?

So, you have 2 choices to spend the money
1) 3 stone
2) one stone.

Without any images, it is hard to say if the stones are worth investing your money. THe jeweler only quoted you for a project. You may become more particular with the 3 stone step cuts the jeweler gets in for you and you may be left with "ugh.... dont think i can work for a 3 stone now".

However, just on paper, what is it that you really want?
What are your plans for the one carat?
do you have funds that can be saved for later to do the other project?
do you have the ability to have a lay away on either project?

Perhaps write down on paper the pros/ cons for the 3 stone and similarly, for the 1ct emerald H.

then you can see for yourself what it is that works in your current situation.

I have a 1ct step cut.. so my decision would lean more to the a 3 stone project.

Or choose a coin.. heads= 3 stone adn tails is the 1ct. Toss the coin in the air.
You brain will toss between the 2 projects.... but your heart will wish for it to land a particluar way.

That is the project that you should work with.

Edit:
OR if you mean you have the funds for both projects.... then go with both.

From a financial standpoint I would find it more difficult to justify a larger bling purchase right now due to the volatility of the market. Then again, the funds would be in something real I could hold, wear and enjoy. If I found something I loved and really wanted to have I wouldn’t let the world situation dictate.
So, heck yes do what makes you happy!

I don’t find corona relevant to your decision. Otherwise, you need to work out if that’s the ring you want and will be happy with and not want another one next year. If there are any ifs or buts, I’d wait.

I have funds for a 3 stone & I found a great deal for the center stone diamond (1ct H VVS2 GIA emerald) I worry I won’t be able to get another deal like that for awhile

If I remember, you liked inspiration rings much larger than a 1ctw center three stone. Are you actually going to be happy with that size? I wouldn't buy any diamond focusing on a deal or perceived discount, because I think it clouds judgment. Would you buy that center if you didn't think it was a "deal?"

It’s only a deal if it’s exactly what you’ve wanted anyway. Is it?

Then that is your answer.

I was thinking of getting my hair done. If the grim reaper comes for me, I'd rather it be with diamond studs in place and fresh foil-ayage.

Choose joy!

You can afford it, it will bring you joy, you sound excited about it...I say go for it!

If it a great deal don’t turn it down.
