I''m very new to this site, but it looks like a lot of people know what they are talking about when it comes to diamonds. I''ve also posted this else where because i wasnt sure where to put it so sorry if you''ve seen it before

I went to the Kay''s store in New Bern, North Carolina ( we live in Havelock near the marine corp base so the closets real mall is 2+ hrs away) to talk about getting my engagement ring upgraded. They told me that I could do it and that I would get full price of what was paid for engagement ring originally but that I would have to double up. Which okay no big deal. So my original ring was 1800.00 so we needed to pick out a 3600.00 ring. The New Bern store did not have anything that was near our price range (either too big or too little) or a big enough selection being that it is a small store. So we went to Jacksonville, NC to look at their selection (an hour away). Same thing happened again. The rings were too much more than what we wanted to pay for them. I have a half carat princess cut solitaire engagement ring. I''d like to just go up to 3/4 carat in weight or get a three stone where the middle is a half carat and the two on the sides were 1/4 carats. However with the three stones it wont lay flush with my weeding ring which is just a channel set of princess diamonds (the sale''s lady said i''d never find a three stone to lay flat). She suggested that I just trade in the whole set, which i wouldn''t do because my wedding ring is very special to me being that it is my wedding ring ya know. After that she got snippy with me for not liking her idea or just getting a more expensive ring....so I got up and walked away and my husband said the good byes from there ha! I have all the certification that came with the engagement ring and all the original paper work as well. I emailed kay to see if they had a master catalog of everything since different stores have different inventory. I guess my questions would be:

1. Can i get a good price for my ring somewhere else? and if so does anyone know of good reputable places in NC near the east coast.

2. Can kay''s order me a solitaire in the size i want for the price i''d like?

3. Is there such a thing as a three stone princess cut ring laying flush with a channel band?

thanks for any advice

Are you set on sticking with Kays or have you looked at some of the PS online vendors?

In order to get the full purchase price of your ring, you will more than likely have to deal with Kay''s. They can, however, order you in anything you want. If the sales associates are not helpful, ask for the manager to assist you.

OL, I hadn''t seen your other thread in Hangout. I really can''t add to what you''ve gotten there, which is some good suggestions/advice.

I agree, I think that you will have to deal with Kay''s in order to get the full price that you paid.

Agreed, most places won''t allow you to trade up a ring you bought somewhere else, at least not for the full purchase price. I believe Kay''s could order you a solitaire (ask a manager), but honestly, that''s not what I would do. Most people around here will not recommend buying diamonds from Kay''s, Zale''s, Helzberg, or other mall stores, because you can get much nicer diamonds for better prices online. If you''re set on Kay''s, I''d consider their Leo diamond line - I believe they have Leo princesses, but keep in mind Leos run a bit pricey. Kay''s will tell you they''re the sparkliest diamonds out there, which isn''t exactly true (many non-branded ideal cut diamonds are just as nice or better), but their cut quality is a little better than some of the rest. I believe they have Leo solitaires and 3-stones.

Here''s another option - could you keep the ring you have now, save up to buy a completely new ring (I''d use an online vendor we can recommend to you here rather than a mall store like Kay''s), and then use your old one as a right hand ring? You''d still get to keep your old wedding set, and you''d get a brand spankin'' new solitaire, 3-stone, or whatever you want!

As for fitting flush with your band, it can happen...a quick google search brought me here. Something like this may lie close to flush.
