I just thought I would post an update to this thread:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/if-it-were-you-which-would-you-pick.179897/

I think I am going to keep my 1.346 G SI1 I was able to check out a bunch of stones when I went to Brian Gavin's today. I live in Houston, so I was able to just go see them. (Thank God because I'm the most indecisive person ever!)

I REALLY want one with fluorescence, but as beautiful as the lower colors are, I can see the tint. ;( I saw a J with VSBF and an I with SBF and could not tell a difference between them at all. In some light, the I actually looked darker than the J.

In diffuse sunlight, I can't see anything except a ton of sparkle and a gorgeous diamond (these ones have that awesome violet color in the direct sun too!). But, I could def. tell the difference between both of them and my G in the interior office. It's not like it was yellow or ugly, it just was darker. I sooo wish I couldn't tell a difference between colors. It would certainly mean I could get a gigantic diamond!! Either that or I should have gotten a plain setting with no side diamonds (def. NOT going to happen)

I have to say, I think G or maybe H is my "spot", especially with my pave setting. The colorless range is just too stark (my E was gorgeous but just too white.) I think I'm going to ask him to check for some higher color/lower clarity combos with fluor. next time he's in Antwerp. (Hopefully they will have what I'm looking for!!) Please just hope for some patience for me.

I'll add a few pics of what I was considering. Pardon the puffy hands (stupid Houston humidity) and filthy ring.

On another note, I got to see the largest Quadex he said he's ever cut. It was a custom order for someone and somewhere around 6ct! It was GINORMOUS!!!! I mean it was truly stunning, but HUGE! I can't even imagine what that would cost...

I got to see the 3ct L from his Blue line too. It was soooo pretty! If I were starting over(and had a ton of money), that diamond in a rose gold solitaire would be AMAZING!! I think my eyes are screwed up though. I couldn't see the difference between the I and the L, but I could totally see it between the G and the I. WHY?!? I want to be in the love with big J!!!

Anyway, pardon the rambling. Have a great night!!

Very lucky YOU to be able to go there and see the beautiful diamonds! G-H is my sweet spot, too! I think you are wise to wait to get exactly what you want!

I think you are smart to wait and get exactly what you want as well. I really like how the 1.7 sits on your finger though, what size ring do you wear?

Thanks. I wanted to like the I/J so much!! I really am lucky that I can see them in person. I don't think any decisions would ever get made if I couldn't. It's just too hard to tell from pictures!!

I liked the 1.7 as well, but to be honest, the 1.3 doesn't look that small in person. I think I need to learn to love the smaller size too, because a 1.7 G is sooo not in the budget! I wear a 5-5.5 depending on the weather. My rings are a 5.75 though because I like them big and also wanted them to fit as I age without having them sized. If I add an anniversary band, I'll need the extra size as well. :)

Here's a better idea of what they really look like. I just used that one because the lighting would be the same to see color (and I can totally see the color difference in the pics. I think it's even more obvious than it was in person!).

I really appreciate everyone's help and opinions!

You have a beautiful ring! It looks much larger on you than mine does on me. :blackeye: But I have big old 7.75 fingers! ;( I think that my dream size is a 1.75, so I completely understand your desire to upgrade. I do think it's smart though until you can find your dream G or H. I'm lucky that I'm not as color sensitive as some and I or J are comfortable to me. It did however take some time to come to love the J and I almost sent it back before deciding that I loved the stones particular cut and light performance. I'm still not in love with the side view and will choose a permanent setting that will hide it, but face up it's white to *me*.

So are you continuing to search for a larger stone with a higher color, or will you set the project aside for now?

I had a thought, I'm not sure what your budget was, but have you seen Diamondseekers 1.58 G VS1 posted in the pre-loved forum? It's a gorgeous stone and a great price. I think she also said that she was willing to sell the stone without the setting if you wanted to use your current setting for the new diamond. It looks like you may be able to just change the head to fit the new stone.

EDIT: I just went back and reread your old thread...is this 1.3 a new stone or was it your current ering that you wanted to upgrade? It sounded like you were choosing between the two in your other thread?

You are oh so wise my dear! Trying to talk yourself into thinking that the color difference won't make a difference is pointless and even though you might have gained size, you would never be happy. So refreshing to hear someone accepting their own limits and that they will continue to love their current ring!

Your ring is just beautiful and you're not settling for less - you're just accepting and appreciating the great stone that you have - there's a lot to be said for that. I'm sure there will be other opportunities for you to upgrade your stone and at least now you know what tolerances to focus on. I think patience will come easier for you because you have made the choice to wait for what you really want.

Thanks for sharing your visit and the pictures of the stones!

I looove diamondseeker's stone, and I would grab it in a second if I could! However, my money is in BGD money. :) I originally had a 1ct E that needed reset (my original setting was falling apart). With Brian Gavin being so close and me loving the settings, that was the logical choice for us. Anyway, there was a bit of a snag, and I ended up switching to the 1.3 G (It's a Brian Gavin stone). I absolutely love it; I just wanted it to have fluor. When he got the new Blue stones in, I thought, "Hey maybe I wouldn't mind the lower colors in order to get the fluor". The size was just a bonus, and he doesn't seem to get very many in higher colors. So, I went to check it out hoping I wouldn't be able to tell. But, I can. :errrr: It's not a big deal to leave my stone how it is. I really do love it, and I can always hope that he can find one next time he goes. Brian and Lesley have been amazing to work with, and they have really worked with us on the money part.

I know, it's really strange to want to switch out stones just so it fluoresces!! My last post was about me choosing between them because I could swap the I for the G for no additional money. The same for the larger J.

Anyway, I hope that helps! Thank you!! :)

Thanks for your kind words! It really is a gorgeous stone; it's not hard to love it. :D

Your rings are gorgeous and there is nothing small about a 1.3 ct. stone! I think that is a wonderful size and larger than most people wear!
