I’m not sure how Kataoka do it, but there are definitely creative ways you can set rose cuts to make them look like full cuts. I’ve seen examples at a local jeweler’s and unless you look really closely, they look like full cut stones. When I asked the jeweler how he did it, he said it was a proprietary foiling and setting technique. Ive seen foiled rose cuts before, but they looked nothing like what he’d achieved. Would love to learn more about this!

Tolkowsky's study published 103 years ago essentially analysed a crown seperately from a pavilion and plonked one on top of the other (with no girdle which is why he ended up with 53% table size - add a slightly thick girdle and the table size needs to be about 57%).
I am not seeing the same level of science her though?
