U-prong eternity band owners: sizing question!

I'm thinking about having a U-prong eternity made (probably 20-25 pointers) and was after some advance advice on what to do about ring sizes with this style. I understand that U-prongs "wear big" - ie. even though they may read a particular size on a mandrel, they are effectively larger when on the finger due to the scalloped contour of the inside of the band.

How much smaller should I order it? My LH is a 4.5, RH is a 4.75. Would I order a 4.5? I plan to wear it mostly as a RHR.

I went through the exact same dilemma when ordering my wedding band (17 pointer eternity). My e-ring band is about 2 mm thick, and is a size 4. In the winter, it spins constantly, and in the summer it's perfect. So I'm prob a 3.75 in the winter, and a 4 in the summer. I ordered a 4 in the eternity band too, since I was told it would be much easier to add sizing beads if it were too big than fix it if it were too small.

I haven't had the eternity band measured to ensure it actually is exactly a 4, but it fits perfectly (alone on my right finger, which is surprisingly somehow the exact same size as my left ring finger). It might fit a *little* looser than my e-ring, but it is comfotable and in no danger of coming off. I think the increased width of the band largely cancels out any increase in size due to the scalloping.

Hope that helps!

I have a 25 pointer eternity from ERD. I had them make it in a 6.75 but it's a bit on the large size. I think I'm going to leave it alone (I did have 2 sizing beads added) but I could have probably gone w/ a 6.5

On my wedding ring finger I wear (both ring fingers are the same size): antique wedding band size 7, BGD bezel band size 6.75, and then my ering on the outside and it's 6.5. The 6.75 fits me the best when worn alone.

My theory (even though the jewelers didn't think it was true, lol) is that w/ the U prong, there's extra space between the U's instead of a solid smooth band. I think that's where the extra amount of room/space comes from on these rings.

Hope that helps :)

HI:

I wouldn't want any ring tight--and my eternity (u-prong) is no exception. Nothwithstanding the u-prong is one style where you "feel" it because of the design, I really dislike the appearance of finger cleavage. These were amongst the reasons I made sure my ring fit larger than needed.

I think my "asschers" are around 37 points each and it is a stand alone ring for my RH but I do wear it on a rare occasion with my ER or with a plain band or my WF diamond wedding band as an anchor. I don't mind the spinning.

cheers--Sharon
