1. I recently purchased a 2 carat round diamond and I am now in the process of picking a setting. I decided I wanted to go with a plain setting for the e-ring that would compliment an eternity band. The only thing I am a little confused about is whether to get a four or six prong setting? With a 2 carat diamond is a 6 prong a must. I am not sure if this is a style issue or more of a "safety" issue for the diamond.

2. What is a good online vendor for eternity bands? I looked at them in a store and I seemed to like 20 point diamonds. If I wanted an eternity band for a size 5 1/2 with diamonds all around in the SI 1 F range how much would this cost. Also, do you get a GIA cert on each stone..that doesn’t seem to make sense. How would you know if the diamonds on the band are cut well and are not extremely fluorescent aside from using your own judgement?

i think you would be fine with a 4 prongs with your stone but a 6 prong would be safer. if one prong were to get damaged chances are you would not loose your stone. be sure to get the rings checked every 6 months to help avoid potential problems i.e loose prongs

for you eternity band check out this link to signedpieces

also, several people of had Whiteflash make them an eternity band (including me

) and they do excellent work. You can call them for a quote. here't the link to WF

1. I had a six-prong settings for ten years (with a 1ct) and recently switched to a 4-prong (1.8ct). I much, much, much prefer the look of my 4-prong because I can see so much more of the diamond. It seems a lot sparklier that way (though my diamond itself is of better quality now). I just really like to see more of the stone than with the 6-prongs.

In ten years of wear (never removing my ring except for heavy yeardwork or painting) I only had a slightly loose prong *one* time with twice-a-year checks. So I felt pretty comfortable switching to 4-prongs.

2. Be careful of eternity bands that are large-- some are made less comfortable than others. My husband bought me a 4ctw eternity band (shared prong style) and it was a nightmare to wear-- it pinched the underside of my hand. I didn;t want to tell him but I hated it! Finally I just had to confess. We took it back. I now wear a delicate 1ctw style by Memoire Paris that feels just as comfortable as my original 2mm platinum band. I haven''t tried the more substantial bands by Memoire, but I have heard that even the 4ctw ones are a pleasure to wear.

Oh and one more thing... there are threads devoted to the "4 vs 6" debate. You can do a search and see.

Some people feel that the six prongs gives an illusion of a larger diamond (the six prongs creating an illusion of a circle that adds to the diameter). With a 2ct stone, I wouldn't think it will be an issue-- your diamond will look plenty big! And remember, they look slighter larger when set anyway-- 4 or 6 prongs.

I am very happy to see more of my diamond so I love the 4.

My eternity band see avatar is from www.signedpieces.com and is 3.38 ctw. It is very comforatble and the stones are 18 points each, in a size 5. Their prices are very good and so is their quality F-G in color, VVS clarity. They will make whatever you want. Also the eternity bands from white flash are also great. My ering is set with 4 prongs and haven''t had any problems. HTH.
