The best thing about Oprah running for president? She can also afford to spend a truckload of her own money just like Trump did to buy his presidency to get rid of this racist, sexist idiot.

Senator Dick Durbin just made a powerful, televised statement about what Trump said in The Oval Office. He is going to push for legislation without the executive imprimatur, starting immediately. He sounded more passionate than I could convey here. You have to hear the (very little) speech. (At least MSNBC played only an abbreviated clip of a speech.)

Well, according to politifact, Durbin is not factual 40% of the time: http://www.politifact.com/personalities/richard-durbin/

No worries Deb.

I saw this morning trump has chosen to lie about his actions.
Clinton was investigated for lying about his sexual encounter and there was only 2 people in the room when that happened.

This was in a room full of people and reporters. Can he be deposed for this lie too?

He thinks he can gaslight an entire nation with a room full of witnesses!

He's not visiting London any longer? A shame. I was looking forward to greeting him. Londoners are quite quick with markers and placards. I had every intention of joining them.

Fair, but he wasn't the only source confirming the racist statements. There were multiple sources.

This isn't even close to the first casually racist thing Trump has said. Coupled with the fact that the first statement out of the WH was not a denial, I'd bet good money he said this and worse in private.

A reporter (or editor) at the National Review says that Trump did not say s#!thole, he said s#!thouse. Now if some people want to nitpick, then I would like them to not just deny he said s#!thole, but to also defend s#!thouse, if they can. If they can't, then I would like them admit to themselves that what Trump said was vile, and that the outrage is justified, as is the condemnation he has received from the rest of the world, and shut the f up.

I don’t know about your circle of English friends/family but mine are baffled as to how such a person was elected in the first place. He really is a strange fruit. Everyone I talk to says the same thing. You couldn’t even make this stuff up.

Maisie, More than half our country make the same comments on a daily basis. Hopefully we will turn this around beginning with the elections taking place in 2018 and in 2020. It hurts my heart that this president is representing our country. Trump does not represent our values. He is a horrible human being.

I'm an American citizen by birth and British by choice. My immediate family follows both US and UK politics fairly closely - I get to vote in both countries. I was so upset post-Brexit vote. We stayed up and watched and I sunk into a bit of a depression. I was worried it'd happen talking to extended family (several were "protest voting" ). After that happened nothing surprised me. DH kept telling me Trump wouldn't happen, but he'd said that before. I was convinced from Day 1 that Trump would win it. And I'm the daughter of someone who voted for him. I feel like the last 2 years have been

I can only imagine how difficult this must be. Could there have been something up with the voting? Was he really voted in? It all seems so bizarre to me.

Brexit is a big concern. I don’t believe we are able to go it alone. Time will tell but I wonder if it will actually happen at all.

Yes and no.

Yes, the US has the electoral college. And possible interference from Russia, but that aside, gerrymandering and the electoral college clinched it.

No, see above.

All the terrible things Trump has been saying and tweeting are nothing new. He showed everyone exactly who he is during his campaign. My hope is we can turn this around and improve our standing in the world. Trump acts as though we are the only country that matters. He doesn’t seem to grasp that we all need co exist in the world peacefully. Unfortunately there are people in our country that are intolerant and ignorant when it comes to anyone who is different from them. There are others who cast their vote on who will benefit them financially. Please know there are also many people are appalled and disgusted by Trump.

That was really interesting! He did explain it well. It really doesn’t seem like a fair system at all!

He spent 23 million of his own money on the campaign and who knows how much more on the campaign to discredit Hillary. It wasn't just America voted for stupid, or bought into the false propaganda of a former TV hack, as far as I can see Trump bought his own presidency.

I would bet good money he's trying to get reimbursed for the money he spent. This is a guy who illegally got his "charitable" foundation to pay for his son's boy scout fees (around $20)! BTW, his company already got paid $11M for the use of his private jet during the campaign.

I watched a lot of MSNBC tonight and just couldn't get over the racism that permeated The White House and what was said about worthwhile, dignified, intelligent human beings with a great deal to contribute who lived in Africa and Haiti and other places on the globe. I just couldn't assimilate everything I was taking in and was feeling. And I also learned things about immigrants from Africa that I had not known-about how much higher their education level is than the average American's for instance. And I learned about the productivity of South Africa, about which I, as a non business person, know little. I feel that I held many stereotypes of my own about Africa and its immigrants. In my state of real unhappiness over our racism here, I just "gave up" and decided to do something that I knew would do some good: I gave some money. I used to belong to the NAACP, then recently (when Trump was elected), I stopped my membership. I gave only to the ACLU, the SPLC, and (this was new) to Planned Parenthood. Tonight I rejoined the NAACP and also made a donation to the SPLC; both organizations made great statements about Trump's racist statements so I am letting them speak for me! I feel a little better. I feel like part of something bigger than myself and as if I am not alone in my fight against Trump. As if I am not helpless.

Stephen Colbert Horrified by Trump Comparing **** Star Stormy Daniels to Ivanka
InTouch magazine.

Matt Wilstein
01.18.18 4:11 AM ET

After briefly mentioning Donald Trump’s alleged affair with **** star Stormy Daniels earlier in the week, Stephen Colbert took a deep dive into the story Wednesday night. And now that InTouch magazine revealed a treasure trove of details about the relationship, he had a lot more to talk about.

Quoting The Daily Beast’s exclusive preview of the bombshell interview with Daniels, Colbert noted that the magazine “also verified Daniels’ account with two sources at the time and had the actress take a polygraph.” As the host joked, “Wow, maybe InTouch magazine should lead the Russia investigation.”

As readers learned, Trump showed up for their first date in sweatpants and suggested eating dinner in the bedroom. “Even back then he was preparing for the presidency,” Colbert added. “And brace yourself, folks, because Stormy said Trump also paid her his highest compliment for a lover.”

“He told me once that I was someone to be reckoned with, beautiful, smart, just like his daughter,” Daniels told the magazine. After reading that quote aloud, Colbert had to breathe into a paper bag to avoid vomiting.

“Quick question: Can child-protection services take custody of an adult woman?” he asked.

Melania may not be perfect, but I certainly feel for her and applaud her standing up to her pig of a husband! Maureen Dowd seems to feel the same way. I say, you go, girl!

Here are some excerpts, but I think the entire article is worth reading.

"Last weekend, on the anniversary of the inauguration, Melania Instagrammed a throwback picture of herself in her powder-blue Jackie suit, not with her husband but with a hunky Marine escort. She wore a delighted ear-to-ear smile, the kind she never seems to flash around the Donald. (It would have been even funnier, of course, if she had posted a photo of herself in front of some empty stands and a sparse crowd, but we’re talking more grounds for divorce there.)

After the Stormy Daniels story broke — about Trump cavorting and watching Shark Week with the **** star and telling her not to worry about Melania, at home with a new baby, and then having his lawyer allegedly pay Stormy $130,000 during the campaign to hush her up — a wintry Melania canceled her plan to accompany her husband to Davos.

Instead, while the kid from Queens was abroad trying to impress the soul-sucking global elites he got elected railing against, pathetically bragging that he had 'a crowd like they’ve never had before in Davos,' Melania made a solo visit to the Holocaust Museum here for Holocaust Remembrance Day. This looked like a subtle reproach to Trump for his unspeakable defense of the 'very fine people' among the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Va., and an allusion to the president’s statement last year on remembrance day, which somehow neglected to remember Jews or anti-Semitism. What a Stephen Miller special that was.

Afterward, the always elusive first lady became even more elusive, slipping out of Washington, much to the surprise of the press. Suddenly, as Stormy Daniels began her media tour on “Inside Edition” and booked an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel,' Melania was making a stealthy landing in Florida on an Air Force plane.

Trump could humiliate his wife by being a big, horny pig, but he is the one who comes off as the embarrassment. He’s an embarrassing husband and an embarrassing president and an embarrassing leader of the free world. Barack Obama was always calling to our better angels. Donald Trump is paying off **** stars and denigrating struggling countries that send minorities to the U.S. as 'shitholes.' How did we drop so far and so fast from class to crass?"

Last night Joy Reid played a video clip of professional golf writer James Dodson recounting an interesting story. I had never heard it. Apparently all golf courses lose money and yet Donald Trump, who could not get traditional financing from banks, kept building them. He kept (and still keeps) opening new ones. With what money? James Dodson asked his Trump's son, Eric, in their golf cart!

Excerpted from "Vanity Fair"

From Russia With Love
"The federal investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia appears to be proceeding in fits and starts. The House Intelligence Committee, which was once taking point, began on strong footing with a blockbuster hearing featuring F.B.I. director James Comey and National Security Agency director Mike Rogers, but quickly fell prey to congressional politics. Chairman Devin Nunes stepped away from the probe amid revelations that he had been coordinating with the Trump administration—one of the targets of the inquiry he was supposedly leading. A hearing that was to feature testimony from former acting attorney general Sally Yates, among others with potentially crucial information, was abruptly, and mysteriously, delayed as the investigation ground to a halt. Now, with the momentum having shifted to the intelligence committee in the Senate, Yates will finally speak her piece Thursday morning in what is expected to be another day of bad press for the White House. But perhaps the F.B.I., House, Senate, and Justice Department could all save themselves some time by simply speaking directly with Trump’s second son, Eric Trump—or better yet, catching him for a few minutes on the golf course.

Golf writer James Dodson apparently had such luck in 2014, when he visited the elder Trump’s new golf course in North Carolina at the urging of a P.R. flack. 'He kept saying things like, "Oh, Donald Trump loves your books,"' he told WBUR over the weekend. 'And I kept saying, "Donald Trump doesn’t read books, I’m told. And he hadn’t a clue who I am." Anyway, he called three or four times. Finally, I said yes.'

Dodson had planned to play nine holes with Trump and Eric, along with pro golfer Greg Norman and Trump’s bodyguard, and when he got there, Dodson asked where Trump was getting money. 'He just sort of tossed off that he had access to $100 million,' said Dodson, whose curiosity was piqued:

'So when I got in the cart with Eric,' Dodson says, 'as we were setting off, I said, "Eric, who’s funding? I know no banks—because of the recession, the Great Recession—have touched a golf course. You know, no one’s funding any kind of golf construction. It’s dead in the water the last four or five years.' And this is what he said. He said, ‘Well, we don’t rely on American banks. We have all the funding we need out of Russia.' I said, 'Really?' And he said, 'Oh, yeah. We’ve got some guys that really, really love golf, and they’re really invested in our programs. We just go there all the time.' Now that was three years ago, so it was pretty interesting.”
