Tucson Gem Show recommendations

I've always wanted to go, and it looks like 2020 will be my year . I know it's kinda a long time away, but I have to plan when I can because life seems to always sneak up on me. I will turn around, and Feb will be here. So...

Do you buy tickets in advance? Does anyone have any recommendations about where to stay, eat, etc? Any recommendations on what NOT to do? We've never been to Tucson or even a small gem show, so I'm a total newbie.

I think about going every year. My daughter doesn't live too far outside of Tucson. I think she would love to go!

Hubby booked our Airbnb not too far from the Convention center for a fraction of a hotel price. I'm betting the costs will go up the closer it is.
