You might want to post this on the Colored Stones board. We can help you find a loose amethyst and vendor to set it. Depending on the quality of the amethyst--price is variable. For a stone of that size, a setting would probably have to be custom which can get expensive. It all depends on the quality you are looking for, and the Tiffany might end up being the better deal--there are a few variables to consider.

Finding an amethyst that size won''t be a problem, finding one that size that''s an emerald step cut will be a little more iffy. You''d probably spend at least $200-$300 just on a nice stone that size, more if you want a *really* nice stone. This was as close as I could find and it''s 7 carats too big and a emerald scissor cut rather than step cut.

I think the big sticking point would be to find a jeweler who could make those really nice claw prongs.
