Trump campaign ads use Nazi symbol, FB removed ads

Trump knows exactly what he’s doing. There’s nothing his supporters won’t turn a blind eye to anymore. I guarantee his rally tomorrow is going to have a lot more fun “symbolism”, after all this is a president who literally said there were “very fine people” at a white supremacy march in Charlottesville.

He eggs these people on and they love it. It’s fun to let their bigotry flag fly, and they are emboldened now to do so more than ever. Trump isn’t stupid, and neither are his detractors.

I dont buy into it and if someone complains about the ok sign should I decide to use it they can have the double bird for being idiots.

Yaaaaaaaaawn, same old name calling. Idiots, huh? The "thumb up" sign is accepted in some countries as "ok" and in others it is an egregious insult. When I used the ok sign you're referring to in Italy, I was met with a look of horror and came to find that it meant *uck you" and I was mortified, asked what was proper and from then on used the thumb up when in that country. Yet that same thumb up is an egregious insult in other countries. Being polite costs nothing except perhaps a little bit of effort.

Argument: a reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong.

It is heartening that you see the humor in your facts according to you. We are entitled to our own opinions but not our own facts.

That down facing red triangle is an emoji available on my smartphone. Is Apple anti Semitic? Why would that symbol be available on my phone if EVERYONE knows it is a white supremacy dog whistle? Who is responsible for this?
It looks like there are other colors of triangles that could be problematic as well. I am a little concerned about my fridge magnets and the messages they have been sending.
In the 90’s there were so many people walking around with these symbols and nothing was done.

Guess ?....Nazi’s!!!

I did not guess that at all.

Musia - I’m Jewish. An American Jew. Part AmericanGerman Jew. Part American Russian Jew. Did I block you? Nope.

Let’s agree to disagree on POTUS.

Cindy

Really I don't know what the meaning of POTUS is. I think it stays for People of the United States? Is it something offensive? Not good? I really don't know. My husband is not a Jew also. I just happened to love everything about Judaism. I am subscribing to the Chabad.org (if you are Part Russian you may know) since 2004, I read Hassidic stories and I read many articles written by devoted Jews every day. Only tattoos as markings on the hands of Jewish prisoners were mentioned as well as the yellow Star of David. I would had known about the red triangles for sure!!! Communist prisoners (non-Jews) had the triangles in different color and I would rather think that red suited them more (everything is awful, of course).

It means President of the United States. The red triangle was used by the Nazi's to mark political prisoners.

Please go on and tell me how it looks so much like a stop sign, or a Guess jeans logo, or bunting.

@ Matata

thanks @Matata and @Volute for posting this. I went looking for it earlier this evening but got mired in more recent hate symbolism. So horrifying!

^ Strawman and red herring fallacies. None of the above has to do with the context of the triangle in trump's campaign ad. The context is important. A political leader with a staff allegedly comprised of the most beautiful best and brightest people ever should be pristine when checking protocols. And while mistakes happen to even the best of the best, in the context of a president who repeatedly makes overt and covert racist remarks and who has acted with prejudice against many minority and marginalized groups, the assumption that a nazi symbol was deliberately used is a reasonable one.

I don’t claim to ever know what the man is thinking but I doubt he created the ad himself. The red triangle In the ad has a bold black border which the one on the poster does not...since you are being particular.

A downward pointing red triangle is also the symbol for family planning in many countries....and the symbol used for an organization fighting female genital mutilation.

It seems unlikely that any of these were the reason that it was used in the ad. IMO.

Political or Jewish? There is a difference. Orthodox Jews and in almost all cases all Jews weren't involved in anything else but their Jewish life and religion. They weren't interested in anything but G-d, praying, working hard, having families, educating their children (those who didn't learn Tora and Talmud were considered to be uneducated no matter how many diplomas they had) , eating kosher and many-many other things. Many of them even didn't speak the languages of the countries they lived. So the red triangle marked devoted and religious Jews, not political activists.

"Almost 90 percent of the prisoners in the Buna/Monowitz concentration camp wore a red triangle identifying them as “political.” In the camps, the red triangle was used for Communists and Social Democrats at first, but soon it came to designate all opponents of the regime, generally including Jewish prisoners. In addition, the Jewish inmates also wore a superimposed yellow triangle with one angle pointing up to create a Star of David. Sometimes, however, they wore only a yellow stripe above the red triangle. All non-German inmates also had a capital letter inside the triangle to indicate their origin: “P” for Poles, “T” for Czechs, “U” for Hungarians, “F” for French, “B” for Belgians, “I” for Italians."

Still, zillions, and many here on PS, will vote for him again.

WTF has happened to my country?
:cry2:
I think it was < 10 PSers admitted they voted for Trump in 2016.

WTF has happened to my country?
The radical left have taken over our country...:(sad

OMG, did you really just write that?

The point of a dog whistle is that not everyone knows the meaning, and only those who do "get it" can recognize and therefore hear the message.

Look up dog whistle ... or read post #17 in this thread, where I wrote, "
Dog whistles emit a frequency too high for humans to hear, so humans don't notice when it is being blown.
But dogs can hear higher frequencies than humans so they can hear a dog whistle.

Likewise, in this case, white supremacists recognize Nazi symbols while the general public usually does not."

Thank you for pointing! Then maybe indeed communists were wearing red triangles along with other political opponents like members of resistance from Europe? I can't read German but I understand what Jud, Juden means. And the symbol resembles the Star of David, not a red triangle with black border like Trump's symbol. dachau_tour_badges_complete.jpg

The picture is small, I can't read. But I believe what I circled with red line refers to Jewish prison population. Yellow triangle on top of triangle in different color to make a shape like the Star of David. Yellow/red for Jewish political opponent, yellow/pink for Jewish homosexual, yellow/blue for Jewish foreigner (non political, non homosexual). No, Trump's red triangle with black border wasn't anti-Semitic. Red for GOP color, triangle because it looks sharp like arrow head, black border for contrast with red and white. I would easily myself come to the "invention" of this symbol for my daughter's school sport team as well as for the Trump's campaign if I was appointed as its 1592545477922 (2).jpgsymbol designer.

Not all Trump supporters are racists and anti-Semitic, but all Trump supporters are perfectly willing to support a racist and anti-Semite. It’s just not a dealbreaker for them as long as their stock portfolios are doing well.

Yup.

I doubt Trump was hanging out with his creative advertising team one afternoon and proposed using this symbol. That's just not his speed (he's not a details kind of man).

Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnn!!! Lets feel all superior and call political opponents names!

I’m really curious and not trying to be mean here. Do you like Trump, or are you supporting a party? Would you rather support a different person in his position?

I don’t think republicans are terrible people. I just really don’t understand how they can look the other way when there are so many things that highlight what a disgusting person he is (bragging about assaulting women and making fun of a person with disabilities on camera come to mind). Is that behaviour ok?

Is this argument that his marketing team has cart blanche to publish these things? that’s no better. Or am I supposed to forgive him for being too stupid to see what he’s doing?
Remember when presidents would say “the buck stops here” rather than “I take no responsibility “?

I’m just curious to the trump apologists on this thread- how overtly does he need to pander to nazis before it’s a problem?
will you explain a swastica “is used by Buddhism and I’m sure that’s what he meant...”

Niel, I am 100% in agreement that he should "own" the issue. Just saying it was someone else's design, in all probability.

To be clear, that was not an "apology" for him or excusing his behavior. He does a fine job of making himself very unlikable. He uses Twitter like a 14 year old boy. I cannot stand the man. I'm conservative on many issues. I don't believe big government is an efficient machine. I cannot support Trump. I will probably vote Libertarian this year.

Looking forward to having a HEALING leader back in office.

Well opponents have been calling names at each since elections or before probably. Nothing new. It's not unusual. All sides do it, or in our case Republicans and Democrats. It's pretty disgusting what the campaign was doing, but what else is new.

Well if we are lucky to vote this guy out, it won't be a libertarian who wins, so it is YOUR right to vote for who you want, but voting for someone who won't win is a hollow victory, YOUR choice, your vote, your right, your life and I respect that.

Third party candidates often take votes away from democrats. Again your right and your vote not mine. :)

Ahhh yes, here lies the rub. I'm not Democrat either. I'm independent and have voted for both parties. I have issues and concerns with Biden. Both the left and right seem very "niche" right now. The two parties (in my view) have lost sight of the people they serve. They are calculated manipulators and propagandists. Add the spin-doctor media, and we're in a bad spot altogether. Sad I have to read everything from BBC to feel I am catching both sides of what is going on in America.

I have never seen so much hate, animosity and unbalanced swill in my life and I find I don't want EITHER of them in my life. Two devils that are departed from the truth. I usually keep this bottled up inside. I have close and loved friends and family across the spectrum. Most everyone is at least weary.

Time for a (political) divorce on my end. A third party won't even happen until we/I make a third choice. I recognize it may be spitting into the wind.
