Trump and first lady test positive for C19 ... NOT politics

he cheated out of the gift of breath

Can you explain the mechanism of that please? I think the doctors that we, the normal people, are dealing with are often incompetent. They were incompetent when I came to the US in 1998. We were poor but never had any benefits, always paid for our own health insurance and medical treatment. Just like many regular Americans did.

Yes and so is yours:dance:

Oh go ahead and bet for your beloved president from afar rockhoundofficiando! Yes, it's vile, but no one will know and you will have more money in the end. Your hero would be proud of you for taking every advantage of increasing your wealth! Please let us know how much money you made when you win, it will be good fun for all of us! :mrgreen2:

And isn't that the sickening part? The hundreds of thousands of people he cheated out of the gift of breath, knowing that in their position his odds would be dramatically different.

I have no words (that wouldn't land me a very long timeout from PS).

I would completely agree with you but for the words "he" and "his" which I feel should be they and their. But yes, that discussion isn't allowed, so I'll just leave it at Long Live Our Glorious Most Wonderful Bestest President in the Greatest Republic the World Has Ever Known!

Peace out.

I'm struggling to not get into politics... The POTUS's behaviour sets the example - not just for his countrymen, but for people all over the world. As POTUS he knows that if he contracts this infection he will get the best medical care the world has to offer. The commoners get... Whatever is available.

He chose to give the pandemic freedom to run rampant ("I didn't want to cause a panic"), he chose to withhold resources needed to mitigate its impact from select groups according to party politics ("blue state bailouts"), he chose to address virus origin and treatment with overt racism ("China virus"), he chose to dismiss his own health experts' recommendations (refusal to wear masks and social distance as recently as the first debate, the Rose Garden conference). By making those choices he has ensured that the "whatever is available" for the commoners is too little too late. But none of that affects him personally.

I'm reporting this post. All the examples I've provided are factual, not my opinion, and for me they underscore his moral failings as a human being independent of political affiliation, but I think it's pretty political nonetheless.

Hi,

Donald is receiving the best medical care that our taxes can buy. I hope he thanks us, the little people who pay those taxes that allow him to have the best care, even if he doesn't pay his taxes.
The Fearless Leader has been saved. Amen!

Kellyanne Conway’s teenage daughter Claudia has just announced she tested positive for Covid 19.

Honestly wasn’t at all surprised given his and the White House stance on not wearing masks.

It’s science, not politics, at work here. Virus doesn’t care if you believe it can infect you or not. If you don’t take precautions, if you are around a lot of people who don’t take precautions, you’re more likely to get infected regardless of who you are.

I’m baffled that the White House doesn’t have a contact tracing program. Or maybe they just won’t give the info

From the standpoint of how the virus spreads I think it's important to read how the virus was spread. It's very virulent as I have read, easy to catch, easier than the flu, I've not had flu since 99 and I NEVER want it again and that was 21 years ago, I was so sick, gosh I coughed for weeks, I slept thru New Years Eve 99 to 2000! woke up once and saw a ball going down in Vegas and passed out again.. I really and truly hope we can get a vaccine.. scary times, wear a mask.

Folks keep it to the science of Covid or this thread gets closed.

Goodness! what doctors were you seeing? I've never come across an really incompentent physician but many who do NOT like to be interrupted or questioned.. I AM SO SORRY you had to experience that Musia!!! my gosh, I hope you have more faith in your current physicians, as my mom always said, one bad apple spoils the whole bunch..

You’re lucky! Sorry to butt into the conversation, but I’ve lived all over the US and have unfortunately encountered several physicians I would describe as incompetent. I also have many friends who are fantastic doctors and nurses, and have independently encountered wonderful doctors and nurses. But I’m afraid that in many places, especially areas that aren’t exceptionally affluent, it can be hard to find a good and reliable doctor.

@Calliecake so it goes.

Mr Trump decided to go Joyriding yesterday to see his fans which

This is a serious Typhoid Mary situation. except nobody put his butt in jail for it.

It’s now being reported that two more people who worked with McEnany in the Press Shop also tested positive COVID.

The count continues to rise.

Are they doing contact tracing and quarantines?

My feeling is probably not on the contact tracing. They're starting at the Rose Garden and I believe trying to work backwards. I do believe that some are quarantining. It was reported the Senator McConnel has declined to say if he had or has not tested positive. AG Barr is quarantining as a precaution. this was pretty recent I heard.

In general though 5-14 days of anyone coming in contact with Mr Trump and they should all be testing and quarantining. Several are not unfortunately. In this case its a bit of do as I say, not as I do. Some forget that a negative test dosen't mean move about the country.

Threadjack

@Arcadian , Have you been doing well since your second shot?

I'm great, thank you for asking. :) I'm itching to know if I got antibodies (of course) and some little birdie told me I might find out 10-7. we will see!

@Musia , to put it into perspective, my partner, and multiple of his staff members have had to undergo covid testing in the last 6 months. This is based on approx 20 people's experiences.

Because of how backed up and swamped the testing clinics and hospitals are, some of them have had to wait approx 1 week or so just to get the results back. This affects EVERYBODY.

They have to quarantine while waiting for results. Their family members also have to quarantine as well until results r known. This means no work for some of them, which means lost wages for the entire family.

Other staff members they came in contact with are on edge too. If the original person who tested positive, that means all his family members, as well as staff who worked with the person would have to get tested.

That one week wait could mean family /
staff who have it but r asymptomatic ends up infecting their family members and people they come in contact with.

All of which cost money in terms of lost wages, and testing fees, not including medication and hospital bills if they r indeed positive. They have top of the line insurance and it costs $3k out of pocket per test! Some of them who did contract it can't even be hospitalized because the hospitals are swamped right now.

And for those who are in the hospital fighting for their lives, the bills are astronomical.

The president has immediate and the best health care available to him. But many others who are struggling right now, don't. Not to mention the lost wages and not being able to get treatment because of how overloaded the medical workers and testing facilities are.

$3k out of pocket per test!

Whatttttt?

What kind of test is that?

We had a PCR for the whole family and it's free here (France, but I know it's free in most European countries because testing is the only way to get ahead of that freaking virus) . We have a person without local insurance ATM - she has to pay Covid testing in full and will be reimbursed later.

The full fee for a test by a specialised nurse was 14€.

^yeah, what?! Testing has been free and easily accessible here in Indiana since last spring.

Testing is free in Australia and we usually get results within 24 hours.

Testing is included in our health insurance here with zero copay.
For those of you who don't have it for free I am sorry. That sucks. It should be free to all. Period.
Health care is a right. Not a privilege. :!:
For any nation to be good and well health care should be for everyone.

I too have lived all over the US, and all my physicians have been good to stellar, the best? an osteopathic doc here in Austin the last time I lived here.. you are quite correct about affluence, I have always been on company insurance, and when I was a kid, my dad had good health and dental insurance because he was a union member and the union ensured that there were good benefits so I have been lucky. My SIL is a pediatric cardiologist, she worked in VA and every six weeks for most of her career she would go to a clinic in Appalachia to give free medical care to those in need, she was a nurse before going to medical school and was head of pediatric cardiology at a huge University in VA, so there is that for the docs who do that, maybe not many these days. I have found - to my mind - medicine in the northeast is the best, with medicine in the south so so.. I have to be honest. But once on a cruise ship from Spain to FL I ended up really sick and the cruise doctor was the most incompetent physician I have ever encountered, I ended up with pneumonia. I always get sick when I travel, old I guess...

My exhusband was from a doctor family, one of his uncle's was a urologist in CA, he started to experience dementia in his 60s, finally my ex's aunt (a GP) flew to CA from Long Island to talk him down and out of medicine, the uncle's peers couldn't get him to stop operating, it was sad, but doctors don't want to cause a problem with their own, sadly. So sorry you and musia experienced incompetent docs, but not surprising given the world we live in today.

@kipari , this is in Los Angeles. Their health insurance only covers a minimal amount for covid testing.

The US health care system is ridiculous. Times are tight right now - imagine if one person gets it and the whole family needs to get tested that could easily come up to 5 figures.

Wow!

As I said: the *cost* of a test ist 14€... If you have no insurance at all.. Test kit and labor included.

We've got one person with symptoms ATM, so had to test the 8 others in our household. Cost us zero, real cost (fully covered by the state) : 122€

We're self isolating until we get the results. Labs are swamped, so it's 48 h ATM.

I can understand people who don't, because they need to physically give to work and cannot forego an income. So rapid testing is key to containing this.

They're working on mass production of a 40-minute saliva test ATM.

Foolproof and self-testable. About as reliable as a PCR.
