We lost our kitty, Sophie, suddenly on August 7. She was a rescue (adult) cat. We think she may have been raised with dogs because she wagged her tail and thumped it when she was happy. She also didn't seem to know how to meow properly, but had a sort of bark. She was very sweet and full of personality, and we will miss her tremendously. Sophie was the cat we adopted after our tabby, Emma, passed away in 2012. kitty_on_couch.jpg

I am so sorry for your loss Holly. Sophie was a beautiful cat. I love that she wagged and thumped her tail when she was happy. Losing our beloved furbabies is devastating but when it happens suddenly it adds to the pain I think. We lost our Francesca suddenly and the pain is intense still 4 months later. Isn't it amazing how deeply they get into our hearts and souls?

RIP sweet Sophie. So glad you knew love and adoration for the time you were here on earth.

HI:

A prayer for my beloved dogphews (I call them furry nephews): Texas (Tex), Jet, Jazzy (Jazz), Buster and most recently Luke. Loved them all like they were my own.

Snuffy, our family cat, was a rescue and while never affectionate was a cutie. And a bit overweight. lol

My own beautiful cat, Nahla, was taken at 7 months with FIP. I have PTSD about it because of the unnecessary trauma it caused my family. (long story). I wish I had more pictures of her as she was a beauty and a darling.

kind regards--Sharon

Thanks for this thread missy. I hope it doesn't get forgotten as a place to remember and celebrate our furry friends.

Last week we had to farewell our Golden Retriever Tyson. Tyson came to us as a rescue dog at the age of 9. He’d been a dog that had come close to being put down. We soon discovered why. He had an extreme fear of thunder and lightning, he’d think nothing of smashing through panes of glass to “escape” a storm if no one was home. He was also a bolter and could be inventive in escaping and taking off. We learnt to deal with his issues though and enjoyed the way he complicated our lives.

He was loyal and loving with a great adventurous spirit and happy when given plenty of opportunity for running, walking and swimming. He adored water and even when he was an older dog, he would run to water. In the end Tyson needed to be put down, as a pet owner you do what is best for them not you and at 17 and a half Tyson had had a good dig. A few photos to celebrate Tyson’s life. Rest easy big boy you gave life one helluva shake!

I’m so sorry @Polished for your great loss. I hope you find comfort in the fact that you gave him the best possible life.

I’m so sorry. I remind myself grief is the price of love. The greater the love the deeper the grief. (((Hugs))).

I am finally ready to add Fred here. We lost him this past January. After we had beat ringworm (6 long months of treatment) and he was fine. One month later he had a heart attack. Technically a rupture of the chordae tendonae. He couldn't breathe right and we rushed him to the animal hospital and we had to put him down. It wasn't a hard decision (but it was a very painful decision) :( because he was struggling to breathe and we consulted with 2 veterinarians on call plus my sister and the diagnosis was grim. He was 17 years old plus. Not sure of his exact age.

He was the sweetest cat. He had a hard life before we adopted him as a blood donor kitty at an animal clinic. He had asthma and no one wanted him. We adopted him in 2002 and never looked back. And after many years of being a nervous, shy but very sweet kitty he grew into a calm and sweet old man and was just the biggest love. He was a purr baby always purring loudly.

I remember one weekend when he was still a baby we went to the shore. We were not yet taking the cats with us at that time. Well we were gone for 2 days and when we got back we realized we had inadvertently locked Fred in the library where there was no litter box and no food or water! :( But he was such an angel. We opened the door and he ran to the litter box. He had held the urine (and also held his BM) for over 48 hours! OMG. You can rest assured that was the very last time he was left alone and from that day on we took the cats with us to the shore.

Fred's death in January terrible loss on the heels of a challenging year after losing Francesca that past June. I like to think Fred is with Francesca and Billy and Butch and Buster and all our other beloved furry babies now at Rainbow Bridge. RIP Fred. You are so very missed. We think of you every single day. We will always love you.

A master at relaxing.

Always purring.

A video of his purring. It was so relaxing to listen to. Made everything seem OK in the world listening to Fred purr.

And he loved to sit with his paws crossed. No matter the mood that was his position.

Fred, one day we will join you and all our other beloved furry babies. (((HUGS))).

I'm so, so sorry for the loss of your dear boy. 17 and a half years is amazing for a Golden! He clearly found the best place on the planet for his best life. What a blessing that you all had each other. <3

Thank you missy and OboeGal for your kind words. I do think Tyson had a certain luck going with him, "of course some humans are going to look after me". And being a winning combination of adventurous and needy only made us bond with him more.

Oh goodness the green of Fred's eyes. So beautiful. Love the purring video, a cat who loved his cuddles. Fred keeping his urine in until he could eventually relieve himself! I do think cats are fastidious, they like cleanliness. I remember growing up my mother always making sure our cat had a clean bowl because she believed the cat preferred it that way. What you and Greg do for cats missy is wonderful.

I'm so very sorry @missy, hurts so much to lose a precious furbaby and even harder when it's the second loss in such a short time. Fred was such a special and beautiful boy. I like to think that Zoe, Fred, and Francesca are keeping each other company at the rainbow bridge. Sending you comfort and peace. XXX

@Polished, I am so very sorry for the loss of your sweet Tyson, he was beautiful. Love the pics, it's clear he had a very happy life with you and your family. He knew he was loved, and he loved you right back. There's no getting around it, the first few months are just really tough and I hope as the days pass your memories of Tyson bring you comfort and peace. <3

I’m no so @Polished, you gave Tyson a wonderful long life, and you can tell how loved he was.

@missy, it’s been an awful 12 months, so many terrible losses. I’m sure all our beloved pets are reunited, and that they’re young and pain free again. I can’’t believe it’s 9 months since our beautiful Dottie died.

Thank you junbug and Austina. I'm just hit with the "nothing lasts forever" at the moment. Tyson actually got a bit longer with the coronavirus lock down. DH was working from home and was around to lift him down the stairs and back up again, so he could walk his three houses down and three houses back with plenty of sniffs along the way. We're comforted that he wasn't short changed in any way.

Is Dottie the dog in your avatar Austina?

Thank you @junebug17 and @Austina I know you have both experienced painful losses and sadly know the pain all too well. On one hand it feels like yesterday Francesca died and on the other hand it seems like yesterday. :( And then Fred gone, in a moment. We had no warning. He ate that morning and seemed just fine and happy and purring. And then the next moment he was on his side gasping for air. I see it all in my mind so clearly. All of it. Francesca's last 10 days from diagnosis to death and Fred's last morning. Sunday morning. First week in January. :(

@Austina your Dottie was such a sweet girl as was your Zoe @junebug17.

I fear I have another heading to Rainbow Bridge very soon. :(
If only love could save them all our furry babies would never die.

Thank you all for contributing to this thread and sending comforting vibes to all who need it. And gentle hugs.

I'm so sorry to hear about Tibby.

When my first doggo passed, I found a quote that just brought tears to my eyes. It went something like, "If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever." I'm sure that quote applies for Tibby as well.
