Hi All,

We purchased a stone from an online vendor and received it this week. I haven''t had a chance to examine it extra closely yet but I did have some time to take some pics. I''ll post the pics, specs and my experience with the vendor after I examine the stone and get it checked out by an independent professional.

In one of the pictures I took, the stone was translucent and the arrows were black like ink. I''m assuming it was the lighting and/or the angle of which I was taking the pic but the stone was completely transparent. It looks like a clear circle with black arrows in it.

Is this normal? Have any PSers gotten photos like this when taking pics of your stones? Our stone isn''t a H&A stone but it''s very well cut (the numbers are great and it scores a 0.9 on the HCA) and has very good symmetry.

The photo actually creeps me out a little. The stone is sitting on my hand and because it''s clear in the pic, it looks like I have a black star bug-like thing on my hand. Eek! I don''t have my camera with me so I can''t post the picture but I''ll try to do so later.

Yes, this is normal under certain lighting conditions (especially when there is a strong light from behind the diamond). These arrows will light up (flash coloured fire) in bright indirect light.

Is this what you are seeing?

This is Maisie's ring

Most of the time you will not see it. The lighting has to be just right. That said, I love trying my best to see the arrows. To me, it is a sign of excellent symmetry.

Hi sugarplum,

Is this kind of like what you mean?

Hi Chrono and Ellen,

Ellen''s pic is closer to what I saw but mine was even more transparent. The stone was completely clear- no silvery white color that resembled a diamond and no flashes of color. It was just crystal clear with black arrows- sitting on my hand.

Be sure and post that particular one when you make a thread about it, I''d love to see it. I''ve gotten some maybe a bit clearer than that, but never totally.

Maisie,
I hope you don''t mind my posting a picture of your ring above; I made to sure to make a note that it''s your ring. I know that there are some PS posters who are very particular about pics of their rings floating about on PS or being used as an example.

Arrows are cool but in this case, the entire stone was clear and there were just black arrows. It looks kinda weird (not in a bad way, I''ve just never seen anything like that before). I''ll post the pic soon! My BF has the camera and will send me the file shortly. Stay tuned!

I love seeing my photos!

What you are seeing is perfectly normal for well-cut rounds. The black adds contrast and is a lovely look!

Okay, I take it back. I guess I didn''t remember exactly how the photo looked. Ha ha. It''s not completely clear but it''s pretty translucent and the arrows are black like ink. Has anyone gotten pics like this before when taking photos of your stones??

Here''s a pretty pic of the same stone...

Yep, totally normal photo! You are worrying for nothing. Beautiful stone!

one picture has head shadow and one doesn''t.
The black is a refection of in this case the camera lens.
When on your finger its usually your head obstructing the light that makes the arrows show.
hence the term head shadow or obstruction.

Camera lens! I should''ve thought of that.

Thanks everyone! I''m gonna go take more pics!
