I love this ring. I am a total moron when it comes to rings and jewelry in general, I just know if I like it or I don''t. I like this style of ring. It says that it''s ''edwardian''- which means what? I like the flatish stone- does that have a name? What is your overall opinion about the ring? Do you have any tips on websites that sell similar rings? I appreciate your help!

hey ariel

welcome to ps!

i have seen that ring on faycullen and admired it. the ring is edwardian 'style' which means it is a modern day reproduction of the edwardian period (1900-1910) jewelry. i do like the variety on the fc site and there is lots of information and pictures but i am a little hesitant of the quality. i have seen pictures of rings where the stone doesn't even look safe. there have been many times when i have been tempted to just buy something and check the quality for myself but the return policy is not forgiving at all. i am not trying to discourage you if that is the ring you really want, just giving my observations as someone who has considered many items from there.

if you do decide to get the ring, please let us know how it goes!

you could always find a jewler that could reproduce the ring as an option as well.

if you are interested in genuine period jewelry, i found the ladies at 'the three graces' www.georgianjewelry.com to be extremely nice and helpful.

best of luck in your quest!

I don''t think they allow returns which kinda bugs me.

I like the general style of that ring. I believe I see a bit of "character" in the stone that may bother some in the pics on the website. It''s hard to tell from those kinds of images though as lighting and computer monitors do funny things to picture quality sometimes. If you get it and don''t like it, you may be stuck with it. Then again, it may look wonderful in person. A picture is worth a thousand questions that can only be answered in person.

Love their stuff...majorly deterred by their return policy, however.

Hello Ariel,

You don''t say for sure, but I get the impression you are looking for an engagement ring. If so, peridot is not durable enough for that use. The same style with a diamond or any color of sapphire would be fine, but 24/7 wear requires a very sturdy gem. If you are just thinking of an occasional wear ring, then as long as it is set securely there should be no problem.

But there are many stones other than just sapphires and diamonds that would work fine as an E-ring for everyday wear. If you like green, you can go Garnet (tzavorite) as well as some tourmaline...so you are not limited..

It would bother me just ordering a ring like this without personally seeing the stone. I would rather custom order a beautiful peridot from a reputable gem dealer with a return policy, then find a setting to go with it.
