torn between AGS ideal cut G vs H

Hi all, a recurring question I'm sure but I'm posing it again.

I now know that I will 100% be going with an AGS ideal cut round brilliant stone >2cts from one of the great vendors known to PS. The area that I'm torn in is the color...smaller carat G vs larger carat H?

From reading and talking with many, I know that H can be an exquisite color. I was hoping some of you that have gotten AGS ideal cut H's would offer some advice/thoughts.

I should mention that the size difference is about a half carat.

If you are trying to maximize size I would go with the H. A tool that I use says shows that a well cut 2 carat should be
around 8.2 mm and a 2.5 would be around 8.8 mm. 16% increase in surface area. I think that is worth dropping a color grade
while still saying in a decent color range.

(I dont have a G or an H so take the above info for what it's worth.)

Personally I would go with the H and get the larger diamond. I recently upgraded to a 2.5 carat I colored AGS ideal cut diamond and I am thrilled with it even though my previous diamond was an F. Some people are more color sensitive than others though so it would be nice if you could see some stones in person.

I have an AGS ideal cut H (AVR) and it is a sweet spot for colour compromise IMO. I am colour sensitive and I very rarely see any tint in it. If the size difference was not as great between the two stones you are considering, I would say to go for the G, but a half carat is a big visual difference in size, and losing that size would not be worth the one colour grade to me in this particular case.

Thank you for the help! I would not have minded staying at a G and the lower carat weight to ensure that the stone would remain white. I am a bit color sensitive but from what I gather, it seems that there would be little sacrifice in going to the H color and a big benefit in carat weight.

I guess I also forgot to mention this is a round brilliant stone, if that makes a difference.

I'm looking at SI1 because I personally wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a VS2 and SI1, so long as they were both eye clean.

I think for diamond characteristics, the eye-clean/ideal cut is a must. Carat weight can fluctuate depending on the color (G vs H), though it seems most people would get the larger stone at lower color grade.

An H is still plenty white - it doesn't go from white to yellow in one grade. I have G's, a D, an I, 2 J's..... and all are white, just a different tone, if that makes sense. Have you ever looked at white paint? Some have a cool undertone, some have a warm undertone, some are neutral. One is not better than another, it's just personal preference. Diamonds are the same way. I think an H is neutral, and if that's what you want, I think you should try it. Any way you can have it shipped to you so you can look at it? Or visit a Hearts on Fire dealer near you and see if you have a preference?

Ah yes, that makes sense with the different shades of white. Unfortunately, the diamond cannot be shipped before purchase but the vendor is kind enough to make videos for me to compare the two side by side. I think it's a good idea to visit stores that have these ideal cut stones and compare the colors as well, I guess I'm not quite sure if I want more icy or warm. I'll see what I can find here!
