Hi, folks. I am just learning about diamonds as I'm shopping for a loose one as I want to get my girlfriend an engagement ring. I would love to be able to find a used one, so I was searching on Craigslist.

I ended up finding a dealer selling a new one. A 1.55 ct Princess diamond engagement ring (SI-1, D) for $3500. I put those parameters in James Allen's website, and not one hit. What's the catch?

I'm not understanding - why are you looking for "hit" on JA? Just to compare price?

Who graded the stone? That is a very good price, but it makes me wonder why - what's wrong with it? There's a lot more to diamond buying - you want it to sparkle, right? That's all about the cut quality, not the color or clarity (most of the time). My guess is that this is not a good stone. You get what you pay for.

JA? Yeah, I thought it was too good to be true. I found what seemed to be a really good bargain on Craigslist from a private party, and it was already sold. :( I'd prefer to buy a used Princess cut.

I'd also like one in about the 1.5 carat range. Does this seem like a good price?:

That's not used, of course, but it's hard to find on Craigslist.

Yes, I want the diamond to sparkle.

fyis re the Craislist listing by Skydell Designs:
* Stock photo - they use the same illustration for many of the listings on their web site, so you have nooooo idea what the diamond in the ring depicted might actually look like

* "certified" by AGI ("certificate" not posted with rings) - AGI is an appraisal company, not a lab that grades diamonds as, e.g., GIA and AGS do

* Clarity enhanced - so far as I can tell from a quick spin through the web site, all of their rings have clarity enhanced diamonds as the solitaire or center stone.

This one unfortunately has an issue on a corner which is where princess cuts tend to crack/shatter/break. I wouldnt touch this
one with a very large pole.

Edit ...I know you probably dont want to go down this low in color but this K looks like it could be nice.
