Hello, I am torn between 2 diamonds both are 1.3ct and are both SI1 clarity. Now one is a Tolkowsky Ideal cut and the other is a Excellent Ideal cut, is there a difference between the 2? they are both EGL certified diamonds but the Tolkowsky is an E color and the Excellent is a H color but the excellent is more expensive. thank for the help!!!

Rocksbrow2, EGL definitions for the cut grades might be rather broad. Could you post the proportions (table, depth, crown, pavilion, girdle, culet, and measurements as well as polish and symmetry) for these diamonds please?

Tolkowsky:

1.33ct
E color SI1

7.11 x 7.07 x 4.35

Total 61.4
table 56
crown 15
pavillion 43

Excellent Ideal
hearts and arrows

1.3 ct
H color SI1
7.07 x 7.01 x 4.31
61.2
56
15
43

Thanks for the help!!

Proportions look very close for both, don't they?

What particular EGL labs issued these reports (USA, Israel, or Belgium)?

I did not write that information down but.... I know that the excellent ideal cut diamond is from Israel. I do not know where the other one is from.

EGL-USA is considered to be more strict than from oversees. You might want to check the stones with an independent appraiser to be sure in color and clarity grades.

The measurements you posted won't help you decide, because they're virtually identical.
If the second diamond is really an H&A, that means it has excellent internal symmetry, which may or may not be true of the first diamond.

Either way, they both look like they are nice stones, I would choose the one that looks best to you.

if the excellent ideal has an EGL-Israel cert, be careful. they are notoriously off base in their grading. EGL-USA certs are either right on (most of the time), or a little generous in the grading.

either way i would go to an independant appraiser to verify the certs.
