Hi, I've had the fabulous DK set my new to me antique cushion. Screenshots from his video below.
I went with an extremely low set bezel for maximum wearability as a RHR.
Everything went extremely smoothly. DK is so easy to work with.
Now I'm unsure if I should add hand engraving. And if so:
-Floral style swirls or
-wheat engravingIMG_20180124_104900.png

blurry examples of the styles I'm talking about:

Sorry about the huge pics. I'm on my phone...

You are most welcome.

I vote engrave. Either style will be beautiful. You could incorporate both, if you like. DK does beautiful engraving! Can’t wait to see what you choose!

I think engraving will compliment the filigree pierced setting beautifully. I like the wheat engraving but both are beautiful choices.

Plain for me I think it’ll look too busy. I love engraving but with how plain it looks now I don’t see engraving doing any more than gilding the lily. But I’m a plain person so take that for what it’s worth.

Engraving gets my vote and I like the floral because ... well just because!

I prefer engraving...looks too modern to me without it! I prefer floral over wheat since I think that would tie in nicely with the detail in the basket. Gorgeous stone! What are the specs?! @kipari

Another vote for plain (ish). I might like to see a simple scroll or more diminutive wheat design on the shoulders, but not all-out engraving. Just my style, though!

OMG this ring and stone are gorgeous @kipari !!!!

Obviously it comes down to personal preference but I prefer sleek and classic and simple settings so I think you can guess what my vote is...however you cannot go wrong. It will be gorgeous either way! Cannot wait to see it on your lovely hand!:appl:

@Maisie what a great visual you shared, so helpful.:appl:

Thanks everyone ! You brought up all the points I am also obsessing over... at least it's not the most horrible dilemma to have...

I bought this gorgeous egl m si 3.71 ct. from a lovely PSer. Since it's an international transaction I have to wait until march before I FINALLY have it in my handssad :((

MARCH?!? That’s like forever away!
I would vote wheat given the faceting on that cushion - I think wheat is less busy than floral swirls and it’s sorta chunky in a similar way as the facets. There’s someone in the last few months who got a 3ish ct M from OWD and the shank of her ring has the cleanest wheat engraving I’ve seen. I’ll see if I can find her thread cos it’s gorgeous and could be a style to emulate.

I am a big fan of engraving on a nice smooth band like the one you currently have. It will allow you to have minor scratches and bumps on the band without looking obvious, and then when you clean and polish the band it will look incredible, even if there are minor abrasions that would show on the smooth band. With the milgrain on your bezel the engraving will look even more natural. The choice of designs I will not vote on, as I think whatever you choose is going to look great.

YEP, this is torture !!

And thanks for the link, I somehow missed this beauty. Perfect compromise.

Thanks for the practical advice, Wink.

More practical advice ahead: you can always add engraving. There's no reason you can't get the plain shank now, and then have it hand engraved later down the line. I'd wear it plain for a while, and then if you want to dress it up a little add engraving.

That's what I was thinking as well @LaylaR ...
Only international shipping is such a hassle and I don't know any local engraver I'd trust with this..
I'm still torn between

-wheat style on the shoulders & halfwaydown the shank.

Or
- plain.
I think I'll toss a coin at some point if I don't get enlightened within the next week.
Funny I didn't have any dilemma like this on the actual ring design.

Another vote for wheat engraving. Wink is absolutely right about the smooth shank showing every tiny scratch, where engraving won't and, I do think it fits the feel of that gorgeous antique stone. But March?? Oh my!

Hi! I have nearly this exact ring in platinum. I found that I like the feeling of the sleek, smooth metal. I have engraved bands that I find can feel somewhat scratchy at times. Beautiful ring! Love a bezel so much!

I think it looks unfinished like it is. With an antique center and other antique elements like bezel and gallery, I think it is begging for engraving! I am not sure I love either of the examples of engraving for the top of the shank due to its width, but there have to be other choices out there. I do like wheat for sides of shanks or on the top of thinner shanks. Will try to look for some others.

Okay, I did a little searching. This is not easy, that’s for sure!

First, here is Acinom’s similar thread asking whether to engrave her Paraiba ring:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/paraiba-in-platinum-or-rg-engraving-or-not-poll.212115/

Then the result (which I think was amazing and done by DK, so his engraver is GOOD and can do beautiful designs):

I couldn’t really find any rings I just loved, but here are a couple of ideas. This one has a design near the top and then changes to leaves down the band. I like it a lot. Rings by Greenlake Jewelry.

I also really like this design. Just imagine it all engraved rather than part filigree.

One more of this style..(not Greenlake)

Here are some with scroll and floral scroll designs.

What about this? This is a nice blend that would include the curves of the gallery and some of the leafy elements you like. I like the curly-cue at the top of the leaves and the flourish. Feels both curving and wheatish.

Thanks @diamondseeker2006 for your weighing in and also the threads regarding acinoms fab cabochon. Very helpful visual again. And it also underlined how much impact engraving can have on the look of a piece.
The examples are really gorgeous and I've saved my so far top contender re. engraving, which is also by greenlake. I don't want to go too intricate and still do a wheat design, but not too dainty, nor too geometric.
Another question is the wider area, where the shoulders meet the bezel... there has to be some kind of design to really tie everything together. I think it needs to echo the gallery design.
So far, I'm thinking the following might work really well for my ringIMG_20180127_121434.jpg

Thanks @rockysalamander . Another option for the area where the shank meets the crown and is at it's widest.point.
