To appraise or not to appraise?

So I'm wondering whether the pieces I have are worth getting an appraisal for.
If the set is worth less than 500 I don't want to get the appraisal but if it could be worth more, then I'll invest.

Anyone know anything about pink topaz?
Any info you can provide is appreciated!

Also, what is the average price for appraisals? (I live in AZ)

Are there any marks on them? I have no idea what the purple stone is, but the ones around it look a bit like marcasite meaning this is probably a costume piece of jewellery. If there are no markings then I'd pop round to a few jewellery stores and ask if they can ID it or test the metal for free. If you get the same answer a couple times and the person isn't trying to buy it from you, you have a good starting point! At a guess, it may be a base metal and glass stones.
