I think the .5 with the .3s looks fine . . . I would not give up and go with the Costco ring . . . you KNOW the WF diamonds are going to be a lot more beautiful than Costco diamonds. I would go with quality over size. Once she''s blinded by the flash and glitter, she won''t care. . . trust me as a mom . . . she''d rather have something smaller and beautiful from you than something big and not the shape she prefers . . .

Ally,

Here''s a great WF ES .58 H, VS2: http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-2362016.htm

Put it in this 18k WG Trellis setting with .20 sides (G, SI2) from Solomon Bros, and you come in under budget!

What a great find eBree! I just would make sure that the side .20''s are the right kind of quality to match the ES...!! But maybe that''d only bug a psycho PS''er like me, parents are a little easier to please typically...hehee.

I think it''d be worth ordering to personally inspect the quality! If the sides are sparkly, I think it''s a great deal. Plus, the big stone will be of EXCELLENT quality.

Just an idea!

SO...we talked it over amongst ourselves and came up with other options. Alright, now my mom and dad were married in Vietnam. Originally she had a three stone engagement ring (1.5 carat), and an eternity band, which she sold in order to book passage to Canada during the war. So when she arrived in Vietnam, they were poorer then church mice, so my Dad bought her a pearl ring with sapphires to wear as an engagement ring. Now she believes the ring is some sort of good luck charm because after he bought it, they gradually restarted their lives and became very wealthy. However, over the years, her finger shrunk and she started wearing her ring on her right hand, middle finger. And so she has no engagement/ wedding band.

Now when we went to costco, she thought the 0.75 simple solitaires were exceedingly lovely. Now I originally bulked from that idea because a) To me personally anyway, they looked a bit small....but then I don''t know what the spread was etc., so it could just have been an artifact. I was on the under 1 ct thread all night, and those stones look huge! b) I thought it would be weird for us to buy my mom a solitaire...so I thought the 3 stone was a better idea. She did say she liked the 3 stone too. Any opinons on this??

But the more I think about it, the more I don''t see anything wrong with a 0.75 solitaire. Her finger size is 3.5 and she''s REALLY not a fan of big bling. She thought my sister''s 1 carat was exaggerated... I know I know, I should throw to the wolves on PS, and she''ll like bling pretty soon. It was actually my attitude before I found PS, and look how I''ve converted

Wink: Thanks so much for your input from a professional standpoint!

Mara: At this point I''m debating a 0.72 stone (I color..$2205) with 2, 0.25 ACA. I think that would make great proportions. The only issue left is how much WF charges for those 2 ACA, and the setting. We''ll probably bust the budget by a bit, but I''m hoping not too much.
WNTLV: I actually love those trellis settings. I don''t know if WF will be willing to order from that company? I''ll have to ask. Thanks for the tip.

Portoar: I''m totally intrinsically against a costco diamond, but it just seemed really easy...I''ve gotten a little obsessed with the project.

ally i love the idea of the 3 stone because there are three of you right? i''d think it''d be a much more meaningful gift than just a solitaire. i love the idea of doing a .70c with .25''s or maybe even .20''s....keep us posted!!

Ebree: It''s such a good price for the setting, another option, thanks!

Mara: uhmm....I''m the same with you, I''m all like well are the side stones going to match the WF stone. Once you find PS, you never go back. I emailed WF, hopefully will get a response soon, or else I''ll call them Wednesday. I asked for price quote with 2 0.25 ACA and stuller setting. Hopefully it''s good to go.

Thanks ladies!

I think the 0.7 with the 0.2''s or the 0.55 with the 0.3''s are both great options. Either way, she will love it because it came from the three of you and it symbolizes the three of you.

Oh, I can just imagine her reaction when you give it to her. I''m getting all teary just thinking about it.

So, how long do you think we got before we get to see the finished ring???
