good evening folks,
i always appreciated this forum for many reasons. The obvious - the information but also for the nice tone amongst the users. And let me say, I truely thank everyone of you for your comments and stories. Howeve, I do not think it is necessary to convince anybody to do anything. What I mean is, lets share thoughts and facts, lets leave the approach: WE HAVE TO CONVINCE HIM/ HER, behind.

Hi, Tweedy: I, too, appreciate this forum for the same reasons. There are a wealth of people here who have HANDS ON experience and have truly educated themselves about the nuances that go into selecting a beautiful diamond. They have a cache of useful information to share, and they are very generous with their time in trying to help when asked.
I don't believe, though, that anyone on this board is motivated to "convince" anyone to do anything. This board is here to help people learn more about diamonds to make a well-educated purchase. At the end of the day, the one purchasing the ring is the one who has to live with the results.
If John Doe comes here asking for information/feedback, he has the choice to take into account all, some, or none of the information he receives when he makes his purchase. But if he comes here asking for input, he shouldn't interpret feedback as people "telling him what to do." If he asks why someone thinks the way they do, and they take the time to explain it, he shouldn't treat that as a debate forum or interpret that "they are trying to CONVINCE me". He asked....if he doesn't like the answer, fine....say thank you, and move on.
If you ask me if I think purchasing at Cartier's is worth the money, of course I will say no, *I* think it is not worth it. That's what I think. But it doesn't mean that I think everyone else who purchases there is stupid, wasting their money, etc. It means simply, I think it isn't worth it. But if YOU know that the price is inflated and you know that the quality is the same as other diamonds and you consciously choose to buy there for other reasons, GREAT....more power to you. Just because name isn't worth it/important to me doesn't mean that it isn't important to you. I'll rejoice in your choice with you because you did what made you happy and you made the choice being well-informed.
I think what you're sensing in the posts is board members who are frustrated at being asked the same question OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and then being badgered about their input or told why the information they're offering isn't worthwhile or isn't correct. It's especially frustrating when the inquirer feels compelled to enter a debate about quality when he's not even bothered to go see a few diamonds in person.
I guess what I'm saying is, if someone doesn't find any value in the information offered from a vast array of knowledgable people here, that's ok, but if it's so lacking in value, why keep coming back?
