I have been coveting this ring for 10 years. Guess we waited too long. They only make it in a rectangle shape now instead of square. The cut is amazing, it''s has so many tiny facets, I just love the cut. I''d prefer to get the ring elsewhere, since Tiffany is so much more for less ring but I''ve never seen it anywhere else. This is NOT the Lucida ring, but different. It''s not on their website. It''s a square modified brilliant with a trilliant on each side of the center stone and a knife edge band. I really love the look. Anyone have an idea where I might be able to find it?

Is a square modified brilliant their way of saying a square radiant? You should be able to find that...

I don''t know. It looks like a princess cut to me, except the edges aren''t so hard. And there are tons more facets inside then when I compared it to their regular solitaire princess.

Sounds like a radiant to me. You should be able to find a square radiant. Radiants are usually labelled as rectangular modified brilliants IIRC-so I believe a Sq. modified brilliant is a square radiant...

thank you

I agree with Neat that it is most likely a square radiant. I have a radiant and my GIA cert says "Cut-Cornered Rectangular Modified Brilliant".

Did it look like any of these?

Radiant (there is a GREAT variance in radiant faceting patterns, this is not the only ''look'' you''ll see)

You are so sweet Musey to post so many pictures and be so helpful. Thank you so much. The last picture you showed me of Nicrez''s ring looks like the cut to me. It''s hard to tell for certain, but I think that''s it. I was completely mesmerized in the store looking at the ring. Everything else looked boring and lifeless in comparison.

Does Tiffany have their own special cuts or are they just calling it a square modified brilliant but it''s really a radiant? I''m just starting this journey to learning more about diamonds and appreciate all the input.

No problem at all

then I think what you''re going to be looking for is a radiant with a "cracked glass" faceting pattern and a 1:1 ratio (square). If you ask a reputable diamond dealer for that, they''ll know what you''re talking about

pictures are always helpful, too.

They do have a number of branded cuts, but not all of their diamonds are branded. I''m not familiar with that particular ring that you''re talking about, so I''m not sure whether that cut is branded or not, but I wouldn''t think so based on the name (square modified brilliant).

Good Old Gold is a fantastic reference for cut types these days because of their extensive library of videos. Here is their video listing on vimeo:
http://www.vimeo.com/diamondinfo/videos/sort:date

On the sorting bar (above the first line of videos), you can click on "search these videos" and type in any cut name. Though I just searched for "radiant" and nothing popped up, weird

maybe they just don''t have a lot of demand to see videos of those. They''re adding more all the time, though!

I went to another jeweler today and it''s definitely the radiant cut. I was so happy that I don''t have to buy from Tiffany. I can make my own ring now! Thanks to both of you for your help.

Now I''m on the hunt for the perfect radiant. The one today was a 1.68 loose stone with ex polish and ex symmetry -- the color was H. It''s such a beautiful cut. It was 11k on sale. GiA cert. I''m going to look at bit more but now I have a baseline...
