Tiffany setting or Tuliphead?

I'm torn between 2 setting heads for my e-ring. My girlfriend told me she wants a simple 4 prong setting. I know she'd like the Tiffany-style solitaire setting like this one:

But I kind of wanted something a little bit unique because I'm afraid one of her friends might have the same or similar setting so I came across this Tuliphead setting.

There aren't a lot of pictures with the Tulip head setting and I'm having trouble picturing it with a diamond.

I know ultimately it boils down to personal preference but I wanted some opinions about the settings and my situation.

Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Your girlfriend told you she wants a simple four prong setting. I would take her at her word at get her that.

this. if you don't like the Tiffany setting then there are some nice cathedral settings that are 4 prong and pretty simple.

Ok.. her exact words weren't "simple four prong".. but she stated she definately wanted a 4 prong setting. And she mentioned she didn't want anything too flashy... but something fairly simple and maybe unique.

I personally liked some of the cathedral settings but she wasn't too much of a fan for them.

... this ring shopping is stressing me out!

I think it is wonderful you are taking your girlfriend's preferences into account while still trying to find that special setting. But to me, and I love solitaire settings and have several Tiffany-style four-prong settings, the tulip-head linked in your original post is very different from a standard four-prong setting. I think the tulip-head prongs look much more similar to the chevron or V-prongs often used with princess-cuts. The Erica Grace setting is a lovely alternative that is a bit more special than the standard four-prong setting but still simple and elegant. But you know your girlfriend best, and her taste in jewelry, and what she means by "four prongs" - you are bound to come upon the perfect setting you both will find meaningful. Good luck!

What about the X-Prong from WF? Still the 4-prong look from above, but a more unique, yet still simple profile.

ETA: While I personally like the tulip head, the prong shape (looking down at the diamond) is a bit different, and might be a bit too off from the simple 4 prong request, IMO.

ETAA: The Erica Grace setting is lovely, but kind of busy to me, especially if she wants something simple.

It seems from your post that you're both talking about potential settings so since you were able to run the idea of the cathedral settings by her maybe you should ask her opinion of any/ all of your choices so that you know she'll be a fan of what you get? Maybe this would take away the stress?

Just an idea.

When I think fairly simple and maybe unique I think about the Cartier 1895 setting. I believe Whiteflash has a similar version.

There is just something about the soft curves of the Tuliphead

I am not sure of your budget but I LOVE this solitare setting

This one is VERY unique and STUNNING. it is still a a four promg they are just split but I am sure you ask for just regular four prong.

This was the first setting that popped in my head when I saw the word tulip. Love it!

The humble opinion of an old lady who has always been asked her preferences before buying but who has always been given jewels she doesn't like: your girlfriend has to wear the ring, so buy what SHE likes.

4 prong, not flashy, no cathedral and unique is what she wants? Sounds difficult without her input. I would definitely recommend finding out more about the direction SHE wants this to take.

The e-ring is obviously no surprise, so can you go ring shopping together?

I really like the trellis setting you found. It has a four prong look from looking down at the stone, but the side profile is different and more unique looking. I think this is a good compromise between the simple four prong idea she has, and then "more unique" idea you have.
