Tiffany diamond: HCA says not to buy?

The proper size of the 1.1 IVS2 is 6.60-6.63x4.07

Thoughts?

The stone scores a 1.2 on the HCA which is great - no need to reject that one based on that stone's outline. I think it will be a great stone and think John concurred on this.

Is it your leading candidate?

As long as John/others say the dimensions are ok on it, then yes it is the leading choice right now. I will have specs/numbers on a couple others to compare soon though.

Great - we'll be waiting to hear what you come up with!

Got a new contender to look at:

Please offer opinion on how the numbers/specs compare to the 1.1 that we all like:

This is a 1.13 IVS2
Diamond dimensions are 6.73 X 6.75. Table 60.2%, depth 60%, crown height 13.6%, crown angle 43%, Pavilion 43%.

Got this info from an email. Am I right to assume the crown angle is a mistake and should probably be 34? There is no way it can be 43 can it?

How does this stone look assuming it is 34, not 43? And what does the 43% pavilion equal in angle?

Thanks!

I would assume the crown angle is 34. This is a 60/60 type of stone - table and depth at or about 60%. It generally produces a nice, white stone. Personally, and I say this having had a 60/60 stone at one point, that I prefer the numbers on the first stone. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if at all possible, I would recommend you looking at both stones to see which look you prefer.

Yes, I will be able to look at them later this week. I am just trying to gather all the specs/numbers on each stone I will be seeing first to let the experts here tell me any stones that I should cross off the list based on bad HCA scores.

Since I am looking at I color stones, should I be more inclined to lean towards the 60/60 profile compared to if I was looking at a G stone for example, because of what you said about the nice white stone?

How will the diamond look different (shape wise) compared to the IVS2 1.1 stone?

It won't look different than the first stone - they are both round brilliant diamonds. The difference in look would be in how the diamond performs. You could probably do a search here for some 60/60 stones but it would be best to see them in person to really make a determination. My particular 60/60 stone had a more random appearance to it when looking down into the stone where my ideal cut stone shows those silvery arrows and a more organized look. A well cut stone - and there are some that would argue they are both well cut stones - will hide some of the body color. It truly would take an eyeball exam from you to determine which look you like best and even at that, the difference may be more subtle than overwhelming. You could also ask the sales associate to give you her assessment of the stones and maybe - don't know if Tiffany's will do this - pictures.

I'd probably rather have the H stone because of color and cut. But I'd check out the inclusions very carefully (with a loupe) so you know where they are but be sure you can't see them with your eyes.

Pass. Go with the one we already all talked about assuming you like it in person. I personally do not like 60/60 stones. They often don't have as much colored fire as I prefer.

yes, definitely look at these in person to see what appeals to you the most!
